Simply incredible Haydn! I have over 20 finished scripts, with two undergoing some doctoring. The Katalist software is moving closer to my dream of A.I. being utilized as a high-end script doctoring tool. I am in the process of testing several A.I. writing tools such as Plotdot, Novel Crafter, ChatGPT, and Claude 3.5 Sonet. Thanks so much for the video Good Sir!
Hey, Johnny, thanks very much. I think we’re all dreaming of a stable and capable AI tool that will let us carry the project from start to finish. I’d say Katalist is definitely heading in the right direction to become that kind of tool.
Ooooohhhh, absolutely. Gaze control would be huge. At the moment it’s only really possible (with any consistency) with video to video tools. I’m planning a review of Runway’s latest video to video… absolutely incredible.
Thanks for the heads up. I tried it. They give you a seven day trial but you gotta give them a bunch of stuff and pick a billing option and I wasn't down for any of that so I bailed. But it seems like it could be interesting someday with a better business model.
It’s still early days, and I agree with you, eventually, with time, new developments and the right level of competition, business models will emerge that work better for everyone.
Since I’ve been exploring AI I’ve regularly heard reassurances and warnings that people are not likely to lose their jobs to AI, but we could easily lose our jobs to another human who knows how to use AI. The repeated message seems to be that we all would be wise to learn how to use AI tools relevant to our industry.
How long before I can show this to my bosses over at Warner Brothers where they will not laugh me out of the office, fire me kick me off the lot and blacklist me for the next 10 years for wasting their time. Recently this happened to my formally enthusiastic colleague when she got excited about this new revolution and had to spread the good news 😂 🎉
Yikes!!! 😬 You’re absolutely right, these tools currently wouldn’t match the performance of well-oiled, time-tested workflows in the big studios, but they’re worth keeping an eye on because 3024 has been filled with surprises at how fast these tools are developing into useful little additions to an existing production workflow… you never know when a new tipping point will be reached.
Don’t know about Mootion, but LTX Studio definitely seems to be the closest competitor to Katalist. I’d say they have different strengths at the moment. I’m planning a comparison video of the two, plus a couple of others, so watch this space 😁
Good question. Try some AI translation tools and let me know how it works out. Multilingual content creation is probably about to become a really big deal.
The tool shows promise but like most A I if it can't do what you want it to do, it is useless. These companies keep putting out half way working tools and expect us to pay for them. Not in this lifetime I say.
I’m with you 100%. A professional tool needs to work reliably or you can’t confidently use it to make and keep professional commitments. These guys (and other AI companies like LTX Studio) face a huge dilemma… Pereto’s 80/20 rule. This states that 80% of the work will take 20% of the time (and resources, and budget), and that the remaining 20% of the work will chew up 80% of the time (and resources, and budget). For companies like Katalist, this means they can bring a product to market that is 80% complete, but the costs and effort to bring it that far will only be 20% of the costs necessary to launch a 100% product. So, now, they face the difficult dilemma of putting all of their resources into completing the product as it is, and taking years to do it (if it took 1 year to get this far, they’ll need another 4 to do the remaining 20%), or they try to keep up with competitors, new tech breakthroughs and customer demand by putting their resources into launching more features as fast as possible, but those features will also be only 80% complete. And so on, and so on. At some point, Katalist (and LTX Studio, one of their key competitors who also have an 80% complete product) are going to have to bite the bullet and go for a loooong period of completing their tools whilst appearing to be making no progress to their potential customers.
Agreed, but I can’t deny the quality work that some YT channels are showcasing with what are essentially pitch decks of material. It’s only a (very short) matter of time until we hear one of these channel’s individuals or teams being hired for a film’s preproduction. Essentially it’s an investment in yourself to pick up the skill set.
Absolutely, it’s definitely v1.0 level at the moment. For me, the exciting thing is not so much what it can do now, but where the tech (and this tool) is heading. It’s like most AI at the moment, incomplete and with limited professional use cases, but worth slowly adopting into a professional workflow where possible so that you grow with the tool(s).
Doesnt this kind of defeats the whole purpose of being a director/screenwriter? You basicly ask AI to draw for you and take out the whole creative process. The Ai become the director and you just stand there like a client would, telling the AI what you like and what not. Idk who can stand and use this and at the same time say 'i made this' instead of "i ordered this from the web'
It’s a fair point, although in my experience, directing AI is a lot like directing a really bright and intelligent intern who still needs everything explaining to them several times before they give you what you’re looking for. For me, AI creation is definitely more like a collaborative team undertaking than sitting back, pressing a few buttons and then everything is automatically done for you. It’s certainly never been that easy for me yet.
😆 in fairness, I’m literally just about to sit down and start scribbling stick figures on an iPad with an Apple pen and using those as the start point before I head back into Katalist to create sketch-style versions to use as rough placeholders. I’ll create and import photo-style shots in another app and import them back to Katalist to use it as the master project story builder. It’s a great theory… let’s see if it works :-)
Great for me as a Ad filmmaker..recently i did The First Ever AI Generated full Odia Song.( th-cam.com/video/uRYDSFoscOo/w-d-xo.html ) . Thanks for sharing this wonderful tool.
I made the mistake of purchasing based on your recommendation and, wow! Horrible. First, it does not support mobile at all. Second, its avatars are extremely limited. E.g., one of my characters is 56 and bald. Sorry. out of luck. Third, it is gender confused and can't hold onto a character from frame to frame. The 56 year old bald character I referenced? It would NOT create an avatar that was bald. When it generated scenes, the second frame depicted him as a woman, in a dress, with a beard. It did the same thing for another male character. I live in Chicago and we are pretty inclusive here. But, sometimes characters really are one gender throughout the entire 3 act play. ChaGPT and Claude can break down a script with less effort. I would rather just generate images manually than fight an app that was rolled out WAY too soon. Now, I have to fight with customer support to get a refund. Yay!
I’m really sorry to hear about your experience. If you don’t get this resolved with Katalist to your satisfaction, let me know. If I can help / need to help, I’ll do what I can.
@@HaydnRushworth-Filmmaker Thanks. They require a zoom meeting before they cancel, which is a violation of the Automatic Contract Renewal Act” (“ACRA”), 815 ILCS 601/1/. But, to the extent that I am an attorney, a legal tech start up founder, and an aspiring playwright, I will exercise patience. I think they rolled it out WAY too fast. You can tell because MVPs are usually web only, which is the case here. I do think that, even if perfected, it WAY overpriced. Subscriptions on SAAS platforms have dropped below $40. To be above $60, it needs to be perfect, come with satellite service in case of the Zombie apocalypse, and do your taxes.
This generates a generic, mindless storyboard that achieves nothing toward the goal of showing the team what kinds of shots the director wishes to CHOOSE. Have you ever actually directed for money!?
It’s a completely valid point, and you’re absolutely right that there is still a long, LONG way to go before software like this is the professional tool we need, but in the context of very early stage AI filmmaking tools, I’m genuinely excited to see anything and everything that moves towards my dream of tools that will allow small-budget, big vision storytellers to eventually make films that they wouldn’t be able to make via the traditional filmmaking route… kinda like myself.
Thanks for making these helpful videos. Inspired me. Never ever made a film before. Always wanted to. With AI, I can…and did. th-cam.com/video/xgucR0h5l0A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uoQ3RG_5WvNxvy0v
VERY promising piece, loving the way its shaping up. The Node Control feature is FANTASTIC!!
I agree, it's incredibly helpful. Thanks very much for watching the video 🙂
I am amazed by your patience for the AI more than what AI can do.

Increable how far we've come! 🎉
It really is incredible!
Awesome!!! Loved the tool! Will check it out!!!
Thanks 😁
Fantastic tool! The price is very expensive for nonprofessional users. But… It is an awesome tool
I agree entirely, they’re definitely aiming to create a professional grade tool for a professional market.
The idea itself is interesting
Thanks very much 😁
ooooh interesting for editorial shoots.
Definitely.
Awesome review. I can't wait to see what we can do in a year. Its getting hard to keep up with as is lol
Thanks very much, and I agree entirely, it’s a mind-blowing journey 😃

Thanks for saving me the trouble. They gotta stop with the predatory free trials.
Thanks for sharing.
Not at all… thanks for watching 🙂
Thank you for this video. It really pacified me to know that AI wont be able to take away my job.

Can you try with sketch?
Old school pencil and paper? Definitely worth considering. In fact, the comparison would make a pretty interesting video 🤔

How does this compare to LTX Studio and their storyboarding AI tools? Or Mootion?

I did a AI movie clip theme inspired from Harry potter
Fantastic! What’s the link?

If a professional board artist turned in this work it would be completely unacceptable. It’s all mid shots with characters in the foreground.
