Shelvington is a masterpiece, the running on Farbine Road is totally convincing, and Moors View made me shiver! I saw Shelvington many years ago, before it had progressed as far as it now, and if what one of the operators told me is correct, one of the builders isn't even interested in model railways. Whatever the truth, it really illustrates the massive difference that P4 standards make to realism.

@@leepolson401 In my opinion Shelvington is one the best looking layouts on the circuit. What makes it so is the high quality of modelling, the consistent colour palette matching the period and the weathering.

I have somehow missed this one. I am of the 2 that own, operate and built Shelvington (I am the "paint" guy). We both really enoyed this show (despite the cow poo smell lol) and this vid is excellent in terms of editing and videography.
In case anyone was wondering know we don't care that Moors View won both the awards, we voted for it to! I don't nomrally like snowy layouts but this was a masterprice. It somehow had an entirely destaurated colour pallete and totally deserved it's award, never seen anything quite like it.
Now I have to say nice things to anyone who said nice things lol.

I like how the speed of the trains is closely controlled. The trains start out slow then pick up speed when taking off and when you come into the station they gradually slow down and stop. Thank you for the detail. You don’t see this on every train layout.
Also, it seems that weathering of buildings and equipment is not a priority in Europe. It seems to be more common here in the states.

Love Dawlish Warren! I grew up in Dawlish and as a child in the seventies I used to love to go to the wonderful model railway layout in the station at the Warren, they had a good shop there as well. It was run by two brothers who lived in one of the Bungalows just before you got into Cockwood, I wonder what happened to them? I know the model railway is no longer there. I moved to Canada in 1999 but since 2016 live in Austria. I remember also when I was a kid there were two great places to buy model railway stuff. Exeter Pram and Toy and a wonderful little shop just across the iron bridge.

Still yet to visit the real location, even though I'm a Devon resident now! Hopefully I'll make it there one day when something special is passing through. Heard about the layout there at one point. As for the two shops in Exeter, the model shop there sadly closed down very recently. Again another place I didn't manage to get too

The majority of points in station areas are limited to 15mph. A typical standard length coach should take roughly 4 seconds to cover its own length at that speed, irrespective of scale. Props to those models who don't run at ridiculous speeds.

I am of the 2 that own, operate and built Shelvington (I am the "paint" guy) so thanks very much. That is a Hastings, and Eastleigh and the area is exactly where they used to run. It isn't made by anyone, we took a Bachmann EPB but ripped it apart, the only thing left is the underframe and motor, the sides are brass etch as they were totally flat on that and the whole thing is narrower than other DMUs as it wouldn;t fit in a certain tunnel in hastings (hence the name).

I am notably struck with the exceptional detail of track realism. Add in crazy cool landscape. Buildings and structures are very, very good. I ache to think, "could I do this?"
Back when, back when steam was king, back when wood was used to heat the water there was endless supply. Trains ran NEXT TO STREAMS where both water and trees were plentiful. Resupply needed? Head down to the river. Human labor was very necessary.
Am I to assume that the 'running' of operations is controlled by computers and software?

Some outstanding work on here - well done to the hard working dedicated modelers. There are a few points I'd like to make though . . . okay - where's the steam? I thought there was a way of making synthetic steam and smoke effect from the funnels?
