    Thanks for this video. Very useful. I just got an aglonema planted in complete clay soil and I was worried whether I should repot it. But the plant seems to doing good and its brought out two new leaves already within a couple of weeks. Like you said, I will wait and see how it does in the coming days.

    I totally agree with you. Specially Succulents are always potted with high portion of cocopeat which makes them die within a month or two. . Mostly nurseries don't use proper succulent soil.

    Blessings for this important video. When we need clay type soil, we don't get. I want this for Lotus plant. I have failed once, as I used my normal red soil. Guide me for this.
    When I think so much to comfort the plants, I wonder if Biji ever did that. She had real green fingers.
    BTW what is English name for Anant (or Anand) flowers? These are in single and multi petaloids

    Hey Ann....thanks for such a wonderful n informative video.... Even i end up loosing my plants because of soil type.....the nursery i buy plants from procure their stock either from pune or cal and i mostly find plants in rock solid clay soil or extremely porous cocopeat, never ever found prefect mixture :(
    I actually wonder how these plants sustain with nursery people..

    • @shrutijadhav9688
      @shrutijadhav9688 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shikha Singh l face the same prob, red Pune/ Bangalore soil and clay soil frm Kolkata r horrible

    • @pheonix_handle
      @pheonix_handle 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Best we can do is wait for a couple of weeks and prepare our own potting mix ......dip the roots of the plant in a bucket of water before repotting for few mins so that soil comes off and roots remain intact and then repot the plant. Thats the best we can do. Some might make it and wont....
      I feel soooo bad when i loose a plant as i pick my plant so affectionately from the lot available in there. It really attracts me to bring him home and loosing it affects me a lot....most of the time i curse myself for not taking proper care....

    • @shrutijadhav9688
      @shrutijadhav9688 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shikha Singh l follow the same procedure, and yes the end result is not always favourable. Lost a beautiful dieffenbachia recently, it was planted in super hard Kolkata clay.

    Good review about soil I was also thinking about nursery soil which has positive and negative but after getting the plant settling few days or weeks later repotting is must for making well drain, and pot in a beautiful ceramic or plastic pot. Even each plants size matters and roots r different so pot sizes matters sometimes it's a mystery in soil mix which is good and bad for all varieties of plants.

    Ann must say you are genius about plants and soils yes I fully agree with you dear🍀☘️🌵🌴🌳as mu stromanthe Triostar 🌅 was good but I repotted it in two different pots n 😔😔their leaves are fully turn around I m feeling so guilty about it I saw it in your channel and I bought it even though it has some damaged leaves but....😭😒😒is it indoor or do I keep it in my grill so that it can open his leaves please let me know waiting

    • @GeeksofGreen
      @GeeksofGreen  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Kappu! For now don't do too many things to your plant to save it. Let it adjust to a spot that has medium indirect sunlight and settle down. Too much repotting and changing of spots will stress your plant. and you should water only when the top soil is started drying out. Don't let the plant become too dry too. Plant loves moisture, so keep it away from windy dry spots or your house fan. I will be making a video on the stromanthe Triostar soon, hopefully it will help you out more clearly.

    • @padminisingh1

      Hey put the bamboo in a wide, little more circumferance glass pot and see that it is not packed... And reduce the water level... And keep it in indirect sunny and well aerated place... And if a stick is turning yellow remove it immediately...change water every 2/3 days and wash the roots properly... Remove debris and dead roots...

    This is very informative :) Thankyou! Can you tell me how to take care of the stromanthe tricolor which is behind you? I got one from Wayand last week,leaves are curled and it is almost dying :(

    • @GeeksofGreen
      @GeeksofGreen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will be making a video on the stromanthe soon. For now just keep the plant in a medium light spot and water only when soil is drying out, ie around every 5-7 days. Leaves usually curl because of too much sunlight, these plants don't like too bright light.

      You're welcome ☺. That is a stromanthe triostar. You could be having a calathea white fusion or a shell ginger.

    I watched almost every video u have posted..loved them all..I got inspired and got lot of plants, however didnt look for bugs in them so now my plants have snails in them..I removed them still find few small ones..do not know what to do..please help...

      Glad you liked the content Akhila! Keep picking and throwing them out with your hands. Also you could make snail traps, google about it. Another option is to sprinkle irritants on the soil surface. There are various organic options too that you can google for. I personally just pick them off and throw them and haven't had an infestation so haven't used any other techniques yet.

    I have planted my aglaonemas and spider plant in cocopeat and compost (1:1 ratio) in ceramic pots. Is it okay or will my plant die? Do i need to add soil in the mixture?

    • @GeeksofGreen
      @GeeksofGreen  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ideally there should have been an equal part of garden soil and sand. Be careful watering your plant as your soil mix will retain lot of water. For now observe and care for the plants we'll.

    hi, can you give some suggestions as to how to improve clay soil? and how to remove the plant from a pot with clay soil for repotting it? Most plants from nursery are in clay soil, my areca palm is dying due to that.

    • @debopriya14
      @debopriya14 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adding sand is the best way to improve clay soil, add equal amount sand to clay and half of compost, mix thoroughly, you can amend this basic base soil according to plant needs, like adding perlite/coco chips/charcoal for a more light n porous media.
      For repotting clay soil plants, I let the clay soil dry, pull out the plant, soak it in water, free the roots gently, then repot in my own soil mix. I recently tried repotting my shiuli but the clay was so hard n so stuck to the roots that I had to damage quite a bit of the root n let most of the clay soil intact, so be very careful when you do this.

      @@debopriya14 hi.. thanks for suggestion... unfortunately my areca palm died already... i had transferred it to a well draining medium but root rot had set in... i couldnt save it... also, i know every channel suggests to add sand.. but i had seen a video where the guy experimented with different things like sand, compost, mulch and stuff to test which one is better... and he got the worst result with sand in the long run... its texturr becomes similar to concrete... so i wouldn't prefer to add sand to clay soil... just saying. i wish i could find the video but i dont have the link anymore...

      @@ash11music all my plants are in a sandy mix and they're thriving, a lot depends on how you maintain the plants and your environment.. in Hyderabad its a strange mix of dry and humid weather so my plants like a sandy mix that doesn't retain much moisture.. it's been working for me, so it's totally about coming up with a mix that suits individual need.
