    • @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel

      Patrick Riley Hi, depending on the door, you should be able to pull out the pins from the top and bottom and switch them. Then change the bracket. If you can't figure it out, send me a picture. We also have a weekly podcast. Here is a link www.stitcher.com/s?fid=49441&refid=stpr

    Thanks for the tips. In my case, the top corner holding pin has come off with the spring. Can you advise on how to remove the sleeve which seems to be stuck to the door. If i can get the sleeve out, then probably i will take the set to the hardware store to get the replacement.

    • @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel
      @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, you can try screwing in a long or wide screw into the sleeve till it grabs and pull it out with a pliers. You can use a bolt extractor sized to the sleeve.

    Question: the roller on top is fine, but the wood split on the door. Once I remove the rolller, how do i insert it a few inches over? Like how do I drill that exact kind of hole?

    • @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel
      @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, you generally want the hole in the same place. You can fill the split and hole in the door with wood filler, then drill a new hole with a drill bit.

    Good and simple.....👍... Good job, however ..poorly designed doors and pivots..... That is why they all fall apart after awhile. They should have metal reinforcements around them pivots and rollers.

    What if my TOP pivot bracket is moving around and it is screwed tight already? How do I replace one?

    • @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel
      @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      tranquilnight Hi, if you want to remove top pivot, most are held in place with a set screw. Remove or loosen that screw and twist out the bracket. You pick a new one up at the hardware store. If they don't have your style, have them look it up in their warehouse and order one for you. Let me know if that helps. We also have a weekly podcast. • @ayeletmay7394

    Question: some workers removed the door and I'm trying to put it back up. It seems something is missing because there's nothing in the door frame for the pivot pin to insert into. All I see is an empty track. What do I do?
    Also, on another set of doors I have metal brackets screwed into the door where they meet about 6 inches off the floor. What are those for?

    • @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel
      @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, you need to have a top bracket in the track. You can pick up parts at the hardware store, or they can order it for you.The metal pieces at the bottom of the door align the panels.

    • @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel
      @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cathy Helsley Hi, If there is something to grab, I would use a locking pliers to pull it out. If not, you can drill into the piece and then turn a screw into the hole. Now grab the screw with a pliers and pull it out. You don't want to widen the hole for the new piece. Let me know if that helps. We also have a weekly podcast on iTunes and Stitcher. My doors are constantly coming off the track. Even after the roller and spring has been replaced. When my husband replaced it, there is a roller and spring that he put where there should be a pivot. I am so frustrated because the doors are always coming off! Would you happen to know why?

    • @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel
      @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, where is it coming off from.

    • @daniellefortini230
      @daniellefortini230 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually the roller, but also sometimes the roller (where the pivot should be according to your video). It's actually quite dangerous, because the doors are heavy and they can potentially fall on someone. I'm really trying to solve this problem because the doors still look nice and I really don't want to have to replace them. Plus if there's a way to find a solution to this problem, I can fix them myself, and take the burden off my hardworking husband! Thank you in advance for any advice.

    • @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel
      @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, at the end of the door, the pivot should be firmly into the bracket. You may have to adjust the bottom pivot pin up or higher so the top pivot is locked in place. That would be the first step and that may solve your problem, by raising the overall height of the door so it sets into the upper track better.

    • @daniellefortini230

    • @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel
      @FIXITHomeImprovementChannel  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      gremlinsbreath Hi, it will take a little tweaking of sliding the top and bottom bracket back and forth till you get the proper spacing. You may have to adjust where the pins are inserted in the bracket or even move the bracket and rescrew it into the jamb. You may also have to adjust the panel aligner by bending it.

      Yeah, I've taken the door off and it appears that the casing at the bottom of the doorway isn't straight. It's off just enough to turn the the guide at the bottom outward so the top lines up but the bottom doesn't. I'm going to attempt to twist the back of the guide to bring it back into alignment. Thank for the reply.

      opening & closing are fine,, it's that the one door folds too far in ...in others words when I open the door the middle of the door folds out ,,, when I close the door the middle of the door , instead of the 2 halves being even they go too far in as if they were being opened the other way (inside out), BTW we have the same wood doors as in the video.
      Thank you

      Hi, I would check the screws on the hinges where the 2 panels meet. If you tighten them up, it should fix the problem. Let me know if that helps.

      I have done that to no avail. I took a small piece of wood ,, stained it and with a tiny nail, nailed it between the sections so the doors can only go so far and that worked. (hope my wife doesn't notice,,, lol ! )thanks

      Hi, I bet if you take off the hinges and adjust the doors closer it will solve it too.

    I just tried to take out the roller pin at the top of the door with pliers, wrench, etc for about an hour. I can't. It's just jammed in there. There is nothing to grab a hold of. The roller has fallen off. The spring came off as well. It's broken in two places. The only thing is the top part of the pin sticking out. The rim is wedged deep into the door. Whoever installed this really went to town with the hammer. I also have a feeling this pin has been wedged inside the bi-fold door since the construction of the house (1964), so it's an old pin on a warped wooden bi-fold door. Please let me know how I can yank out the pin. I know there are ways to yank out nails. I have no idea what tool I would need to pull out an entire pin.

      Hi, if there is enough coming up to grab, use locking pliers at an angle and tap up with a hammer. If you can't grab it, use a bolt extractor. Drill into the top and screw in the extractor and pull out with a pliers.

      Hi, thanks for the reply. The locking pliers + hammer method sounds good, but I'm not sure where I strike it with the hammer... once you lock it on the pin, the only thing to strike is the handle, which is not optimal for a pin that is deeply molded into the door. The bolt extractor method seems to be the most invasive. For a pin with no grooves, I imagine I would need to get a center punch as well. I feel like the door will probably just break apart before this pin ever comes loose. The original installer did a real number on it.

      Hi, push the pin up into the bracket on top and then guide it into the bottom bracket. Sometimes easier with a helper down on the floor.

    Too bad you didn’t address the pivot point which is the shittiest design flaw of these shitty doors
