Learning English Podcast September 11, 2023

On today's podcast, Dan Friedell and Caty Weaver host the show. Dan tells listeners what they will hear on the program. First, Dan Novak has a story about expanding efforts to legalize sports gambling across the country. These efforts usually call for some of the taxes raised by the industry should go to problem-gambling treatment, but few states spend very much money on it. Then Dan Friedell and Caty bring a story about a group that is secretly buying up land in California to build a new city. People are wonder why there is so little information on the effort.
Then, Bryan Lynn has the science report about Japan's successful launch of a lunar lander and an X-ray satellite. Japan hopes to become the next country to land a spacecraft on the moon. The satellite is a joint venture with NASA and ESA.
Then Lesson of the Day explores ways English learners can do more with the video series Let's Learn English. Andrew Smith and Jill Robbins use examples from the video to talk about the use of small words in regular conversation. Then Dan and Caty sign off.
