@@JenniferPost you have to do a lot of research to understand it. I spend 18 months trying to get through a relapse. I’ve had ocd for over 15yrs. I know this sounds like it doesn’t make sense but ocd comes out in all forms you get rid of one and bam here comes another. Ignore, ignore, ignore. Eventually it will fade out some and you will be in control not ocd. I found I had to stop trying to figure it out . And ocd loves to comes up with scenarios.

The "writing out the fear" part is soo helpful. With my type of OCD, it makes me see the irrationality of the connection between the fear and the compulsion. I've got a lot of compulsions surrounding objects (i.e. "Don't wear that shirt, because x might happen" or "Don't read that book or.." and so on) so really taking time to write down "If I read that novel, he'll never ask me out" makes me laugh so much at my own OCD that I won't let myself be bullied by it anymore.

The beginning of the video was literally me. I would do anything to avoid therapy including buying supplements, ice baths, meditation, etc cause in my mind, if I did therapy, it could mean my worst fears would come true. It's crazy how OCD works.

By 3:09 I was sure to comment the fact that I have been doing all the things you mentioned how to keep OCD around, I've been doing all of those and they all do feed on the irrationa thoughts, fears, compulsions, intrusive thoughts and obsessions, I guess I have been focusing on other mental disorder traits. What I wish I would have done is to treat my OCD in my teens because hitting rock bottom 24 years after having many blackouts throughout the years should have been the warning signs. No, I am not confusing OCD with bipolar, I already went that route. i have been reading on OCD symptoms, blackouts, false memory and treatment. I have a psychologist and I am trying to work through CBT but he believes I need medication due to some other mental illness clouding my judgment and who ever is going to say I am a nut case, thank you for feeding the stigma. Great videos and I relate to many of the topics you mention. Thank you for making them! exposure Response Prevention sounds like the best treatment. Thank you! ❤ 8:08

I don't care about thoughts occurring in my head. I won't to know for sure that those intrusive thoughts I have had about my kids when they were small weren't actually real occurrences. But I'll never know for sure, because I can't remember what's true or false in my memory bank. And so I'm depressed every day all the time, because I don't want to have ever been a heinous monster. And that's my life in perpetuity. And it makes me sad. Basically, I'm terrified that I don't actually simply have ocd, and that those thoughts were actually real occurrences, but I can never know for sure, and it eats away at my soul.

this is the cruel joke about OCD is trying to get help sometimes makes it worse and feeds the compulsions but i guess it all depends on the approach. for example when I find myself feeling like i'm going to slip up and go back to doing mental compulsions i watch these as reminders to at least not go back to doing it and react normally. however if you are watching these videos way too much just to distract from the anxiety, without applying his actual advice, then i would recommend to tone it down and maybe watch one or two videos then make an action plan and try to actively sit with the anxiety or check out his course. I haven't gotten his course but I am currently working with a therapist right now and I'm trying to confront the anxiety and uncomfortable feelings but on days where I'm not working with her i need a little extra help sometimes. though i am trying to not seek so much help and instead try to apply what i already know. i wish you all the best and it is very very annoying to deal with this kind of stuff but it's all about habits i guess and it will take some time but hope and faith always exists so never give up. ever. i feel like the biggest problem here is fear, and especially the fear of fear itself. cruel joke but yeah that's life i guess. bravery and courage is the way

Ok so here is something I do which leads me to think I have OCD... I have tabbo thought or horrible thoughts and then physically hurting myself (with a hard slap or punch to my face), questioning my sexuality even though I am sure I am straight and whenever these thoughts come I do the thing, I have a feeling of if I think something will happen than it won't happen so I always think of thing that should not happen so that the thing which should happen do happen, reading my sentence again and again to see if I made any error even though I am having a normal conversation with my best friend (I have already checked the whole comment like 6-7 times till now), I can't go a day without talking to my parents in the fear that something might happen to them, and always thinking that I am alright cause if I tell anyone my problem they would think I want attention so I hide what I feel until I can't physically take it's consequences , although I don't need to arrange all things to the perfection but I wash my hands really often like even if I entered a restroom or bathroom and did nothing I still need to wash my hands, and randomly getting thoughts like if I breath or if the sun sets before 6 than I am failing the test (and the breathing one is not a joke)

@ocdandanxiety - Doctor... my job literally had me next door to my baby mother's house... who hinders me from seeing my son. I haven't been in his life for 13 years because of her cruel objections & wanting to put me on child support. It has caused me so much hurt emotional & mentally - that I was compelled to shift locations from my job to avoid potential threats. I tried facing my fears but it ended up back firing on me by her closing the door for me to be in his life.
By me not wanting to work in that neighborhood because of the attached trauma.... it has created serious anxiety. How do I overcome these thoughts? Would you be able to reach out to me please?

Why won’t my OCD go away?
I’ve had severe OCD for around three years now…
I’m scared to take medication and after doing research I tried doing ERP on myself but I stopped because it was making my physical health symptoms worse, I worked with a level 1 IFS therapist but it wasn’t successful, and I worked with a level 2 IFS therapist but it still wasn’t successful… what more do I need to do?

Hi, thank you for asking. I still have OCD :(.
I am seeing a level 3 IFS therapist every week now and I am doing somatic meditations daily, if I can, to calm my brain down without having to take medication.
I have a lot of hope these things will help me but if not I will try something else, maybe I will end up eventually taking medication or seeing an ERP therapist.

I should probably just do that too but I’m truly terrified.
I’ve taken quite an uncommon route, I know that medication and ERP is often the recommended treatment but I love IFS because I feel like it explains my OCD better.

How can I do my exposures if I don't have time? My therapist told me to do exposures everyday 40 minutes with the same thought (i deal with mental obsessions), but soon I will enter school which doesn't always let me have that free time to do exposures without feeling rushed.
