I want to make a bird for my nephew. I'm a complete beginner (to the point I'm waiting for my knives to arrive) so this video is really helpful. I'm very anti-plastic and thought making a wooden toy for my nephews 2nd birthday would be perfect and then as he grows older I'll make more toys for him and he could use them as figures when he's older.
That’s terrific! That would be such a meaningful gift for your nephew to treasure. He can then pass them on to his kids, and they can become family heirlooms. Be sure to sign and date your work!
Have a unfinished chickadee from a class I started way back. Been motivated lately to finish some up, just the videos I needed. Time will tell. Thanks for putting these out. Will use power tools but will get it done. Painting will be my biggest challenge. Have Fun. Later
Today I came up with the idea to carve or better said to file a bird by myself. I am pretty happy with my result. I made it smooth instead of having 'natural' texture Now, in the evening I was curious and searched for others in TH-cam. I discovered your channel, I am impressed. Yours looks so awesome and the speed u builded yours was quite impressive! Big respekt, greetings from Germany!
Thanks for your question. The wood that I use is basswood from the Linden tree or Tupelo which is found in the south of the US. In the UK, Limewood is commonly used for carving. In Malaysia, jelutong wood is a great wood for carving.
I enjoy your teaching style. I would like to purchase the tools you used in this bird pattern. If you would be comfortable with it, listing tool, use, and brand if appropriate. Thank you for your help.
First off I apologize it is taking me so long to get back to you. Somehow I missed this question. I really appreciate your question. The first knife I used in this video is a flex cut 1 3/4 Long blade
I've just gotten into wood carving. These videos are great! Thank you for making them :)
@@thebadtraveler I love it, wood carving is a great hobby. I hope it brings you years of enjoyment.

That’s great! I feel the same way painting is always a challenge. The more you do the easier it gets. Thanks for the comments.

Which wood is better to carve? Your suggestions are most valuable for me. TIA🙏

Is ist possible that you share the template used in the video. Would be awesome
@@Tom-ox7lb I would like to share the pattern, but it would be a violation of copyright law. I did not design the pattern. It is from a book.
