It never ceases to amaze me how many accessories and replacements you can still get for Speccies almost 40 years on. Mine has the composite mod, has been recapped and has a new voltage regulator, and is in a lovely looking white case with grey keys at the mo. I had white keys for a while but it looked a bit odd. I really need to find a white Atari joystick 🕹️ to match 👍🏽

I need more content about that steering wheel. Looks like the kind of thing Kim Justice could make a 40 min long video about. As you stated, there's not much info about it on the internet, but I think you just did the first gameplay of Formula One that actually shows the modern, realistic controls!
When I did the composite mod on my Speccy's, I did the same as you with the capacitor. It looked awfulf, so I just used a piece of wire in place of the cap. Perfect picture on all models. I've also got a Halequin 128 in an original 48K case. Cool vid. (not cool colours. LOL)
Yeah, it can be difficult to tap screw threads for these after-market shells. I did a Game Gear one a couple of months ago and I was exhausted by the end of it.

I would suggest adhesive spray and not tape for mounting the faceplate. Just make sure you spray it on something like an old piece of cardboard and do it outside because it'll smell bad! And don't use a lot of it, just get a nice good coverage.
Thanks for this video, I love your work! Could the interference you pointed out at the end of the video be down to the switched mode power regulator you swapped in? I tried that mod on a SNES once and saw video interference caused by it. I think the way you fix the interference is by adding a inductor/choke and a capacitor in series between the voltage regulator output and where that output leg meets the console. The choke and cap smooth out any electrical noise. Hope that helps! Keep up the good work!
Ah - now this explains a lot.. I had a ZX Spectrum +2 and I tried so many times to get this F1 game to work - I just couldn't work out what I was doing wrong! Looking at the game though, to be honest, it looks more difficult to play with the roll of tape...

There is nothing I enjoy more than when some idiot puts a new capacitor in backwards and kills a unit in doing so when they were replacing the capacitors on a perfectly working piece of equipment. Use an old playstation 1 mad catz starring wheel (about a tenner) rip out all the electrics and put your own in and then use it. I'd definitely be impressed if you did that.

My Speccy composite mod didn't require any extra components. Simply moving a wire.
