  • This clip is from a BBC documentary entitled 'The Many Faces of Les Dawson' which aired originally around 2011. Les Dawson passed away in 1993. The clip shows a couple of brief examples of his legendary off-key piano planning and a quick one of his 'singing'. The whole episode is available on here and I'd recommend it to any fans or anyone interested in comedy. It's quite often repeated on BBC4 too.

I have watched this over the years more time than I can count. Les Dawson was a genius. Grew up in the 70s and 80s. Still love him ❤

There's just nobody funny like this anymore. I'm glad I was born in the 70s and grew up with this on TV.

Les Dawson was a legend who will never be forgotten. The way he told jokes and his all round banter was total perfection. Everyone knows that he was a good pianist but his off key piano playing was so funny. Even Blankety Blank was worth watching and very funny when Les hosted it. These so called comedians today haven't got a clue about being funny. Les is irreplaceable .

I have tried to do this, I have my. ABRSM Grade VIII distinction and to do what Les did to play the correct notes but In 2 different keys is very difficult to do.No
One has done this since Les passed an absolute treasure, a legend and one of
The funniest clever comedians to have ever graced the famous west end stages

I like to hear and see Les. What I don't like to hear and see is people talking about how great he was.

That "feelings..." bit at the end of the vid, I reckon, superclipses anything that even the grandmaestro Victor Borge did - genius as he was. imo

He was just so naturally funny that as soon as he arrived on screen or stage you just started laughing, and then the magic began.

You. Have to know what you.’re doing to pretend to play wrong. The genius was he played the left hand chords correctly but then veered off key by a semitone or tone in the right hand. Very difficult to do
