After watching this video, I realize I've taken my own mom for granted sometimes. I should show more appreciation for all the things she does. Thank you mom!
i love her....even though she comes off as being pure and simple, her lyrics are deep and expose a lot of pain and misfortune. listen to "strange mercy"
it makes perfect sence, she talking about responsibilities forced apon you that you dont want and its like when you have a family and your a stay at home mom its like they kidnap you and make you do what they want of you, no one gets metaphors anymore
This is the third video that I've seen of hers and I have to say that she really has a certain creative aesthetic that is truly all her own. You go girl!
This song's hook popped to mind this morning, I just started randomly singing it hahaha and I came to listen and started googling what you were up to, not realizing it's your birthday today. Awwww, HAPPY, HAPPY BiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiRTHDaaaaaaaaY Dearest St. Vincent, thank you for being born, creating great music, and inspiring me to do the same whilst supporting talents like yourself who deserve to be on more stages sharing your gift!!! Loooooooooooooove youuuuuuuuu. [Cruel-uel-uellllllllllllllllllllllll oh ohhhhhhhhh.] #SoMellifluous!!!!
You amaze me. Singing little truths about life and the world around us and doing it well is rare. I come across an artist like your self once in a blue moon and my ears are grateful. Thank you for being you.
I've loved this song for years & tonight it's a perfect antidote to my mood. I really like Billie Eilish's "What was I made for?" It's important. Butt when you're ready to snap out of that come here!
hell yes! what a wonderful video and depiction/juxtaposition of the woman's role. love how you can dance to the record AND take away a meaning. st. vincet is where its at!!!
Just saw the performance at Bonnaroo and she really needs to do some performance videos. I was blown away by her show. Perfectly cool and amazing musical skills on display. I am totally hooked!!
Bodies, can't you see what everybody wants from you? Forgive the kids, for they don't know how to live Run the alleys casually cruel Cruel, cruel Bodies, can't you see what everybody wants from you? For you could want that, too They could take or leave you So they took you, and they left you How could they be casually cruel? Cruel, cruel, oh Cruel, cruel, oh Bodies, can't you see what everybody wants from you? If you could want that, too, then you'll be happy You were the one waving flares in the air so they could see you And they were a zephyr, blowing past ya, Blowing fastly so they can see ya Cruel, cruel, oh Cruel, cruel, oh Cruel, cruel, oh Cruel, cruel, oh
+Matthew O'Brien Because the guitar in almost all of the songs is annoying. This is the only one that's tolerable. I tried to like her music but the songs don't even sound like they have a melody because all you can hear is overly-distorted guitar. It's like nails on a chalkboard. If she'd tone down the distortion (not remove it) I think a lot more people would like her.

For those that dig this kind of thing: Location of the gas station in the first scene: 39080 Fremont Blvd Fremont, CA 94538 Gas station's gone. The buildings in the back are the tell (former Goodyear); that and the Marshalls across the street. www.google.com/maps/@37.5478899,-121.9866864,3a,69.3y,6.17h,75.03t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1snYSgZ58Xnrw6oXOqI57CIw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en-US
Saying you want someone to go back to the way you liked them is like going over to your best friend's house and saying, "why the hell would you choose THAT paint for the wall? I can't even talk to you anymore until you paint it a color I like." Maybe just accept that she has a different style now and listen to someone else if you hate it so much.
That movie from the early 80s wasn't too bad, IMHO, but I first saw it maybe in 2003 - 2006; well past all the critics with Star Wars on the mind had given their word on it. I went in with no expectations, and enjoyed it for what it is.
@hojima Right- you're talking about the classic definition of someone with "pop" sensibilities as opposed to someone who is "pop" with the negative connotations of contemporary styles....
10 years later St. Vincent and Strange Mercy remain criminally underrated.
Symbolism for an abused house wife. The father instigates it and gets the children to play along.
My god that beat evokes the feels so much!
it's so cruel to bury a beautiful and talented person like her
it makes perfect sence, she talking about responsibilities forced apon you that you dont want and its like when you have a family and your a stay at home mom its like they kidnap you and make you do what they want of you, no one gets metaphors anymore
This is exactly what being a wife and mother feels like sometimes
Magnificent visual representation of social roles expected by environment/society, very creative!
Am I the only one who cracked up when she was playing the guitar while being kidnapped and tied up like it was no big deal?
+morlonelycatofflippy up to now u were
pretty sure that's the idea
I didn't laugh at it, but it is my favorite part and quite clever.
LOL me too
This is the third video that I've seen of hers and I have to say that she really has a certain creative aesthetic that is truly all her own.
You go girl!
Her song writing has always been seamless, its just the style of music that's been changing over time.
I love how she falls about the most culturally relevant/hidden societal issues with such happy instrumentals. St. Vincent is a phenomenal musician.

Amazing song that gives off some pretty striking goldfrapp vibes
she's so awesome!!!!! I LOVE INDIE MUSIC, and the concept of the vid and how she looked the whole time!!!! LOVIN IT
Masterpiece ❤.
I can't believe this video has 10 years, I started listening to St Vincent 2 years ago approximately. WTH had I been doing w my life all that time?
This would be a really good movie, Just saying.
This song gives of Vin Gogh vibes, bitter sweet, beautiful.
I've loved this song for years & tonight it's a perfect antidote to my mood. I really like Billie Eilish's "What was I made for?" It's important. Butt when you're ready to snap out of that come here!
Great video St. Vincent!

Love it love it love it. Oh AND I love it! Go Annie!
Omg the part when she’s combing the girl’s hair reminded me of the scene in Pet Semetary film (2019)

Love the disco feel
Temazo
this song is amazing!!! screw all the haters! just see the negative of it, not the story...
I LOVE THAT!
what a fantastic song!! i dont understand people who are labeling this as "indie" either in a bad way or a good way. its just good music, that is all.
Still an unforgetable favorite.
It's 2024. I stand still stand by this.
Bodies, can't you see what everybody wants from you?

Great sample ... Jo Lemaire's 1983 synthpop-song "Parfum de Rêve". Reminds me of my childhood.
MarantzKIPearlLite 3% resemblance. Almost certainly never heard the song.
How can people not understand what's happening in this video?
Explain please
@@calderonjacob9 basically what it feels like to be a mother/wife
This song is literal perfection... well, most of Anne's songs are.
Electronic Sarah Harmer! I love it.
So underrated it’s a crime
I saw her live last night at the Gexa Energy Pavillion like the details says! It was so awesome!!!!!!!!!!
Your good taste in music!
Jeez, gorgeous dresses !!!

with that, anyone else notice mr. schniedelwichsen from beerfest as the father? great work getting into the video
The music is really fun, but the video is terrifying
Probably the most hilarious music video ever made. I die everytime I see her tied up in the trunk playing the bass.
listen to paris in fire, party, and autor of work... some of my favorites songs... !!!
Good Song
Her natural beauty is so distracting that it would be easy to miss just how brilliant she is.
Excelente, very good!!!!
I like this band a lot. I don't know why they're not bigger.
Me neither, she's just as bad as the popular artists.
***** She's amazing.

@Waluigik13 i agree its very creepy but i like it at the same time
I'm going to apologize to my mom right now.
Does it sound to anyone else like she's saying "Krull"?
The Kroll Show
All hail Krull and his glorious new regime!
Sincerely, little girl

very nice ..is that you in the trunk st.vincent?
my favourite part of this video is when she's playing guitar in the trunk.
i can’t believe how little views this has
@hojima Right- you're talking about the classic definition of someone with "pop" sensibilities as opposed to someone who is "pop" with the negative connotations of contemporary styles....
The solos reminds me of the ending for Radiohead's "Karma Police".
this reminds me of muse
Samee
GG has made me come here

good point
I love that little girl's glasses.
@yesalien what defines a star then?
Are people this absurd on youtube? This video is hardly creepy haha, my lord. The song is also phenomenal, wasn't expecting as many dislikers here.
oh wow, she's so naturally pretty.
