I recommend heading to the Pensacola NAS. I was stationed there 1.5 years ago, and check out the museum it free. It has tons of planes, ship models, WWII stuff, space and hop on the trolley. Yes, its free!! and awesome, they have an IMAX theater as well and a sweet looking lighthouse. Open to public for the museum. Beach is nice too!
If you like open spaces, solitude, light traffic and many state parks and campgrounds you might be correct in staying up in the panhandle. Peninsular Florida has much to offer but there may be more traffic, more expense and fewer choices of state parks and camp grounds. Wherever you go we will be looking forward to seeing it. Fort Wilderness at Disney World is great for RV'ers but not cheap. Good Luck and Godspeed.
Good morning from Georgia. I'm sitting here in a Publix parking lot watching your latest video. You inspire me to get out on the road. My house payment is DONE and I have a lot of free time and (thankfully) some available cash. Building a custom Travel Trailer now. When it's done, I'm going to spend at least 6 months a year on the road.
After all you've been through, it's no wonder you want to chill out for a while someplace that feels safe and familiar. I do hope you get down south to the Keys via the West Coast sometime this Winter, though. So much beauty to be seen, and great videos to make. Happy trails!
You may wish to check out Ottawa, IL to hang out this summer.. There is a place to park for free and shower at the YMCA.. Two rivers join there and 6 camping parks in the area. Great in the summer.
Great video - seems you're at last having fun again which is good very good. The video angles you get using the mono pole is unbelievable and great to watch - stay safe and well :)
Can't believe how light that monopod and camera are. What excellent shots with this equipment! Fun to watch! Would like to see you go the the keys, too! All that way across country, and not to get down there would be a shame. I have driven down to LA, then up to Vegas and across the country to South Carolina. It's a long damned way ...
Awesome vid Eric ! Such cool vid effects that monopod/GoPro gives the vids. Glad you enjoying my state man ! I love my F L O R I D A ......too ! Be safe & have fun !
Hey Eric. I knew you didn't know where you were when you were at Elvis Presley Lake. A tornado destroyed that park last spring. Those hills used to be covered with trees. I was about an hours drive north of you at Tishomingo State Park when you were there. You should have stopped and checked out Elvis' birthplace in Tupelo. You were just a few miles away. Also I heard you mention New Albany. That's my birthplace. It's also the birthplace of William Faulkner. You may have noticed the signs for the Natchez Trace Parkway. It is a national park. It goes from Natchez to Nashville. It's very scenic and there's a lot of attractions to see that don't cost a dime. No Comercail vehicles are allowed and the speed limit is 50. You can see some of it in my video "A Motorhome Trip To Mississippi". I'm back home now in the frozen tundra of northern Illinois and wishing I was back there. Take care and have safe journey.
Eric, if you have time and interest, I believe you would enjoy the Everglades area...and this is the time of year to head that way. The weather is the best, and if you go over to Hwy 441 (not an interstate, but 4 lanes in most areas, you will see the center of the state and have lots of "jumping off" places to visit. also, the highest point in Florida - Bok Tower is in the Lake Wales area (center of state). Interesting history there. Enjoy your stay in my home state. And I'm thankful Tilly is doing so much better!
I love the monopod stuff while driving! Just a thought, maybe pick up a mirror mount for the camera. I think they are around $20. I used my suction cup mount on the outside at highway speeds. It lasted about 4 or 5 minutes @ 65mph. It was tied down, because I knew it wouldn't last. Got some cool shots that way. Have fun in Florida!
Hi, I just subscribed. Looks like you're living the dream mate. My wife and I plan on RVing across the states in the next year or so. We are in Australia. Cheers.
Really enjoying your videos (and camera work) - thank you for sharing. Also, FYI, many times I watch your videos to the very end, but they don't seem to confirm that. Some of them will say "watched," but many of them don't. I don't know if that effects your TH-cam income stream, but I thought I'd mention it, just in case it does. I've even gone back and watched twice - to the very end - but for some reason, they just don't record it.
after you have had the new solar for a few weeks maybe you could give us your thoughts on how much better it really is and what you could run with the new system that would have been a problem before. have a good 1.
Way Cool, man! How could you not go to Key West?! Traveling down that west coast of Florida is so beautiful! When you touch base in Key West, you can truly say you've been from one corner of America to the other! How's the new solar set-up doing? Are you able to boondock better, and run/charge more things? Good Luck, and Happy Camping!
Hi Eric! Just got a giggle going on watching you with the stick thing filming outside.... at one point it looks like a giant is "walking" you and you are holding on to a leash. LIke a tiny Eric being walked! Lol!! I am crazy though....see funny in lots of normal stuff. Glad to see ya smiling more now. Tammy from Tennessee
You're getting pretty good with that stick camera thing. Too much technology for me but it does bring something different to the table for viewers. I'm Old School. Lol! Some of it looks 3-D if I'm saying it right. Remember the cinema when they gave you the card board glasses? But as always you present it in good taste & always forthright.
Hey Eric, thanks for the nice vids. I would love an update on that solar power situation, how is it working for you so far.. I've been researching on the subject for weeks now, love new input and ideas anywhere I can get them :) Take care and cheers!
I shoot rock band concerts a lot, and though I'm shooting with high end cameras, I love the versatility the gopros I have add to it. When I have it on the monopod, and go in on the drummer with it, it's like I have a camera on a jig. LOVE that shot. Great for really getting close ups on the guitarists fingers too. As long as the lighting's good, they are phenomenal for adding some really cool shots to the show. Fun video man. Keep it up.
Panama city for weeks? LOL Florida Keys is where it's at and if you drive the west coast down you can hit the everglades on the way. You don't do that trip your missing the best parts of Florida imho. I mentioned this this to you a couple times already and told you about my friends place you could stay in the keys but since you ignored me and didn't acknowledge my friendly suggestions and offerings you have a nice trip wherever you go.
I wouldn't be offended if I were you, I can only assume that your offering to Eric was genuine. However, you should take into account that Eric receives many offers like yours daily and for security reasons he can't possibly take you all up on your request. Imho
***** I'm not sure what your comment has to do with the post. All things aside, it's perfectly legal to carry a firearm as a felon in many states, granted time has passed since your conviction or you have been pardoned. People have felonies for various reasons, but gun or no gun everyone has a right to protect themselves. :-/
I bet you get better gas mileage too. So how are your panels doing, would like an up date and your ideas on the bumper battery storage. As always Happy Trails.
Yep, I figured u forgot MS.. I once went into a FL bar with my alligator, and asked the bartender "Do you serve trolls here?". He said sure, I said "good gimmee a beer, and give my gator a troll". 27 degrees here, with wind whipping. 3 more months of cold.
Comment & question - I just wanted to say how impressed I am with the clarity and quality of the video, especially with the monopod shots....the question is, are the youtube ads random or do you have a choice? - just curious txs :-)
Thanks for the kick in the pants reminder to back up my computer. I back up my user files but need to clone my disk with all my apps and settings. It's a PITA to get everything back the way you like it, not to mention those apps that you no longer have access to. I recommend Clonezilla for a complete disk copy. I use it on Linux but I think it works for a Mac if you can boot from a USB stick or CD. And it's free.
If you come down to the Sarasota area, let me know. I have a place to park in the yard with A/C hookup and laundry. there's plenty of areas next to the beach with tons of great boondocking.
Robert Wimsatt I think Sarasota is one of the cheapest places in the country. Up north, like Washington DC, where I lived 5 years is a lot more expensive. I did not know what you are referring to, north florida as opposed to sw florida? What is cheaper? Gas? Food? Just wondering.
Robert Wimsatt Visiting in an RV won't cost him more. He already has insurance, No need to get a license. I doubt he is planning to move here, but there are houses in this area for well under $100k if he chooses to. Camping on the keys is understandably more expensive as key west is like a 10 mile island, but Sarasota has vast open areas with great parks, including the jewel Myakka State park. Sun-N-Fun is another great place for snowbird cheap living. But I don't think his plans are to pay to camp. As for real-estate, comparing to states with bankrupt cities is hardly fair. They can't give away that trash. For $350k in Venice you can get one hell of a nice house, but it's mostly a retiree town, whereas Sarasota-Bradenton has more to offer the younger crowds. He is looking to visit for a few weeks, with access to free parking, A/C power, wireless, cable, laundry etc, it doesn't get much cheaper.
Eric. I wonder if you could mount some temporary pvc pipes to hold your camera wand on your RV in various locations. Re; trip route back to WA...(I mentioned this on another video of yours but not sure you read it)... I think it would be cool if you routed Roswell, NM and visit their UFO museum and then head up to Rachel, NV to visit The Little Ale'E'Inn by Area 51. Ask for Pat at the Little Ale'E'Inn. She's the owner and a very sweet and entertaining lady. And when I went there I stuck around in the evening. The folks gather at the Little Ale'E'Inn and tell stories and one guy took me free of charge to the gate of area 51 and we used his night vision goggles. It was way cool! :-) Anyway. it might not be on your list of neat places to visit. But in my 25 years of driving O.T.R. those are a couple of my favorite stop ins. Love your videos Eric. It's good to see you experimenting with your GoPro. Have a great day!
The admission into the Roswell museum is only $5. for adults according to this site that I'll attempt to link. www.roswellufomuseum.com/museum/museumadmission.html And here's a link to the Little Ale'E'Inn www.littlealeinn.com/ so you can check it out. I think both places would be worth a trip.
that would be a very cool trip and documentary for Nomadic Fanatic if u can interview some people that live there or testimonies it would be even more awesome.
Hi! Yes, it is so nice to see your smiling face! Did I notice a little heart-shaped tag on Jax's harness? Just wondering if you put the rabies tag on her. I know, I'm a PIA, but I am a mom and mom-mom (grandmom)! Have fun and relax in FL as long as you can and DON'T head up the east coast of the US yet. Looking at a blizzard with 2 feet of snow here in NH. I thought you were cute when you mentioned Mississippi and had to put the sticker on your map. Well, so long for now! Connie
Yeah, that's his ID with my cell phone number. I didn't put his rabies tag on him since he's an indoor cat. But I filed it and the certificate just in case.
I'd contact Apple and Microsoft. There should be a record. Did you save the confirmation numbers from the purchases? Did you register the software? If anything, they might be able to identify your IP address. It doesn't matter that you're not a student now. You bought the software suites when you where in school and should be able to download them again. This happened to me a few years ago and I got my software back. I've also been able to transfer them to new computers.
I repaired a guys laptop that crashed, had to reinstall windows. The reason his crashed and corrupted is because it overheated. I had to unscrew it and pull out a big chunk of dust. You might want to get some compressed air for the fan to make sure you get good circulation. Im sure your rv has a good bit of dust in it and after a few years it could easily block airflow.
Just leave before Spring Break season starts. I think as early as late February. PCB becomes a parking lot. One giant douchebag parking lot. Come back in the the summer if you want.
Just an idea... make a mirror copy of your hard drive and have it dedicated to just that... worse case if you lose your hard drive you can run off the external drive.. just have to change the boot order on your computer..
I don't understand that camera stick thingy. It must be very light cause it seems like you couldn't leverage it the way you do. And does the camera make it seem farther away than it is ? If you stay in the same place is there enough to film so that your content won't suffer ? Maybe some RV tips or chores ? Sorry about your MAC. Only like computers for watching y'all !! Stay warm, we're calling for snow tonight ! BURRRRRR !
$450 for about the cheapest good one that will hold a GoPro, the old DJI Phantom and most people spend $800 or more for one. Since people do lose drones, one just got illegally lost on the White House grounds, he would probably get a second camera or a drone with camera. That is more money out. I don't expect him to get one anytime soon, since he has limited funds. I do think Eric would have fun and take great videos. I have multiple friends with drones that are posting videos on TH-cam and encouraging me to join them in owning one.
Nomadic Fanatic hey Eric, love your vids. You can build your own Drone for about 175 bucs. But you gotta learn how to fly them. I've built 3 so far. Check out Flitetest.com for more info. Lee
I'm having problems with my Acer computer with BSOD. I finally figured out how to boot into safe mode in 8.1 because it's totally different than other Windows. Anyway, all checks point to a ram chip going bad. It really sucks when you are uploading a video and you blue screen. You could checkout Sony Movie Studio 13 if it will run on your system for about $40. It's better than Movie Maker and runs on the Sony Vegas platform. Just a suggestions instead of paying every month for video editing.
I just recently started watching rv vids and have been getting interested in the idea of rv life and your vids are helping quite a bit and jax is always fun to watch :-). What kind of go pro camera to ya use eric?
Eric, are you going to make it to the east coast? I have a cold bear and some Florida sea food here if you are interesred. Cocoa Beach area. I have tried to contact you but no luck.... Let me know....
I don't know if I'll get there this trip. I want to be back in the Northwest this summer, but I can leave the east coast for another trip and see all new things..
Sorry your lost your apps, that sucks, to be honest I sub to almost everything now, that way I'm always up to date!! Good luck with getting your mac back to the way you want it, I hate comp crashes... meow meow (Jax) have a great one Eric
I gotta tell you one thing I find amazing about your videos. You are smack in the video frame 99% of the time. I know the Go Pro’s don’t have a forward facing screen so you can see yourself, great framing. Also, they slight fish-eye those camera have show so much without looking too ‘fish-eye’ like some wide angle lenses do. I use a Sanyo Xacti with a screen that flips out and rotates 180 degrees, which is great, but the field of view is crazy-narrow.
Nomadic Fanatic Yes, I was very impressed at how well you handled what is essentially a camera on the end of a stick. No counterweight or anything. The picture is so steady the whole time, it is as if you could perform brain surgery from ten feet away.
Had a crash last May - recovered from Time Machine, and most of my apps came back with no problems. The ones that didn't merely required re-entering existing passwords. I keep a Keepass file with ALL passcodes for everything - no problems.
hey good video but when you move it fast I get a little dizzy maybe its just me anyway good job my brother lives in Tampa nice area down there have you ever thought of getting a metal detector for the beaches and parks
I'm staying down south for the winter because I have no choice at the moment given my precarious financial situation but am planning to head northwest as soon as I am able. The quicker the better IMHO. I'm so far behind you in terms of options it ought to give you a warm fuzzy feeling inside. LOL. If I can get my game together soon enough and you plan on ever heading back in the direction of 'home' maybe we could caravan up together. I'm either going to stick in Colorado or Seattle since that's where the culture and job market best suits me. I've lived in Colorado but never any further west. Would love to chat with you sometime about the pacific northwest and your life/experiences back there. Maybe we could do a Google Chat video thing? I think it would be awesome. In the meantime I've got to at least acquire and equip a stealth beater panel van. It's just me and my dog Bandit but you'll be happy to know he peacefully co-exists with the seven cats and two other dogs my hosts have here at my current bivouac. Enjoy.
Just catching up. Loved the ride so far. I always suspected you were a 2nd amendment guy! I live in the Atlanta area I can get you wholesale on any gun stuff you might need. If interested let me know how to contact you. With the exception of your diet I believe we are kindred spirits.
Keep up the good work. I can only RV a couple of times a year, but when I watch your show I feel like I'm on the road. Thanks Gus

Gotta get myself one of those gopro things. Be useful as a dashcam as well. And that stick looks fun.
Yeah, you enjoy all that warm weather down there while some of us are trying to survive the "Storm of a Lifetime"! LOL ;D
That was Awesome how you filmed while driving.
Hey Eric, been watching you since the beginning, keep up the good work!
Don't worry your luck will change, and we'll still be here watching!
awesome love it wow it's almost like owning a Drone when you hold it up
Glad to see you are doing much better Have fun in the sunny warm weather

Those monopod angles while driving are so cool i love 'em! :D
What brand of monopod is that?
I would be interested to hear a review of your rv tires and how they are holding up on this trip.
They are mix/matched. Technically all 6 are now new as of October 2013 or last 5,000 miles. But yeah.
With the mono pod sticking out the window it looks like your trying to RV joust. lol

did a little research on that subject. USC title 18. Felons can not possess firearms or ammunition. usually a 10 year sentence.
I agree. The Keys is a place to check out since you're so close!
Eric.......Head to the the Everglade's and Key's for some real Florida....
Eric step it up a notch with your map we only place a state if we actually spent one or more nights in that state. Safe Travels!

Sadly, I have no choice. But TH-cam uses keywords to attract businesses.
Just got a Hero 4 a bit of a learning curve of I think Im gonna dig it…..good video man
Wow you got some cool toys man!!! LOL
I lived in Tallahassee for 30 years then moved to Orlando. I am really, really ready to get out of Florida!!!

It's good to see you experimenting with your GoPro. Have a great day!
Oh man, that museum would be so cool!
How would you compare boondocking in FL to the west? Can you talk a little more about how you find boondocking places? Thanks.
Key West is the place to see!!
Awesome vid
Keep it up brother
That is so cool!
hey videos are looking much much better, did you make some changes?
No. Just using more fun tools in filming.
good video,,, have you considered a drone for shots from 1,000 feet. Utah Willy
I'm looking for one now!
Nomadic Fanatic I didn't mean to refer to Jax as a "her". Sorry, Mr. Jax!
Good for you!
Eric can you make a list of the Apple laptop apps you have lost with the crash - to see who can help with replacements - thanks :)
I meant "Adobe" and Microsoft.
How are the solar panels working out? Have you had to use the other charger since the installation?
They're awesome. Keeping me with unlimited power so far! No genny and no speed charger. :)
Nomadic Fanatic Nice!
Hi Eric. Where did you get that window suction mount for the camera? I like the two cup suction mount.
$70 on amazon. Worth every penny.
Nomadic Fanatic careful with those suction mounts , they are illegal in some states
DougDubya California being one.
I use velcro, that works. They got it at the dollar store.
*****
Not illegal in California if you place it in the botton left corner of your windshield. Same for GPS suction, etc.
I sure hope you don't just stay up north there. Go ahead and travel downstate ... there's so much more to see in Florida.
What happened to that stabelizer thingy for the camera? I've been waiting to buy one until I heard what you thought about it. Please review it for us.
Just an idea... make a mirror copy of your hard drive and have it dedicated to just that... worse case if you lose your hard drive you can run off the external drive.. just have to change the boot order on your computer..
Sorry to hear about your Mac crash! Were you able to have anything backed up on CrashPlan?
All my files were backed up on 2 different hard drives. Just the applications were lost here.
BURRRRRR !
It's a tiny light camera, and it has a special fisheye lens that makes the shot so wide.
Nomadic Fanatic Soooo I guess I could handle that !
:D use google + gopro
Eric post some locations to boondoock where you are when it is best for you to do so thx in advance
We may be there in Feb. I'll message you when we r coming.
You should get a Drone for filming! your views would be amazing!
Pricey tools, but it would be fun.
I was just thinking that lol... Although, give it a few months, maybe a year, they will be illegal...
Nomadic Fanatic hey Eric, love your vids. You can build your own Drone for about 175 bucs. But you gotta learn how to fly them. I've built 3 so far. Check out Flitetest.com for more info.
Lee
Nomadic Fanatic You can get a quadcopter at best buy for $80 or so. They are a lot of fun.
You can run open office as a substitute for Microsoft Office and GIMP as a substitute for Photoshop. They aren't perfect but they are free.
Does the cab-over interfere with sightseeing or seeing traffic lights? I think that would drive me nuts!
Not all the time, but it has, at times, forced me to bend my head down and forward to see lights.
If you head to south Florida you can park in front of my house. I live in lakeland, you can do laundry etc.
Hi Eric, just saw you on live chat. there were a lot of us commenting but I guess you couldn't see it. you will figure it out. keep up the good work.
I think I've just become comfortable with camera. :) thanks.
yeah the xacti is pretty cool, especially the waterproof ones, but in camera stabilisation is not so good.
Nomadic Fanatic Yes, I was very impressed at how well you handled what is essentially a camera on the end of a stick. No counterweight or anything. The picture is so steady the whole time, it is as if you could perform brain surgery from ten feet away.
Don't let the cops see you messing with your monopod while you're driving!
Yup, that's why I've only filmed in deserted parking lots in these 2 videos. I knew people would rat me out if I did anything illegal.
Had a crash last May - recovered from Time Machine, and most of my apps came back with no problems. The ones that didn't merely required re-entering existing passwords. I keep a Keepass file with ALL passcodes for everything - no problems.
When in the RV with the monopod shooting, were you in wide or medium mode?
Nomadic Fanatic Forgot to link u to the comment
So how does it feel to be wearing shorts in January?
haha. I'm going to skip an entire winter season. My mental calendar is going to be so confused this summer up in the Northwest... lol.
Yea figured this was probably a first for you:) lol
hey good video but when you move it fast I get a little dizzy maybe its just me anyway good job my brother lives in Tampa nice area down there have you ever thought of getting a metal detector for the beaches and parks
From 2:43 on your image quality improved significantly. What did you change?
where did you get that map that you have to add the state stickers?
Camping World. $17
Nomadic Fanatic thx
You can get the whole adobe suite CC for around $51 a month.
Enjoy.
Hi Eric, have you tried iMovie? I find I can edit really quickly with it. It doesn't gave a load of options but it's adequate
That was fun!
You never have to format a hard drive unless someone hands you one and to be safe you do that.
Just catching up. Loved the ride so far. I always suspected you were a 2nd amendment guy! I live in the Atlanta area I can get you wholesale on any gun stuff you might need. If interested let me know how to contact you. With the exception of your diet I believe we are kindred spirits.
