@PUNKYMEFISTO I played along to the track mate... so my guess is going to say the snare you can here at 1:29 is the drummer that played on the original song... .... .
What I like about this video is that he is a good looking dude wearing regular cloths and it doesn't seem that he carries his drum key in a overly crowded key chain or his practice pad and sticks to his dates. The dude described comes and plays a perfect rendition. If you met him at a party, you would never guess. Bravo!
@TheMattkeeling thanks man. i transcribe the music from ear using sibelius. All the editing was done on my mac using protools for the audio and final cut x for all video editing
@mwb78 I found them to be a little heavier than the stock beaters. The stock beaters also chew down quite fast. The quad beaters give more slap and click as well
@CrawfordDrummer i have to transcribe them first and then read/learn through it. check the example out. the link is in the description if you're interested
@Mp5Drummer thanks for the words here. Although ABR aren't as technical i cant play some of the double kick in ABR. It's simply a little quick for me at this stage. Im not much of a fan anyway either
@TheForward3 Thanks man. Probably not. That section of the song i treated as an ad lib section just playing it all on the spot with out any written parts etc
@drums258 I've been working on a lot of other things in between this and my last video but i only started Weightless about a month ago. (transcribing, practicing, learning etc)
Really inspirational... I've watched thousands of drumming videos over the past few years and I have to say this is one of the best performances I've seen. Well felt and perfectly compliments the music. I find so many drummers with lots of technique tend to struggle playing soulfully, with feel and energy. So damn refreshing!
@DavidChoiDrumz Man sticks, metronome and a pad is a valuable necessity for any drummer.. Im sure you're playing singles, doubles and all the diddles at speed. Also check out my Polyrhythm videos on my lesson channel. That may help.
The best thing that i find works with my students is to go back to easy to intermediate grooves that you can already play, then play the ride instead of the hats and add 8th notes on the left foot along with the various grooves. try and various tempos and then go back and do the same exercises but with quarter notes on your left foot
@SetToFailure The xtreme china and the paragon chinas are both beautiful cymbals... best play them both if you get a chance. I personally like the paragon more, has more character \
I keep asking myself "how is Troy gonna top his last video??" and then a video like this one is uploaded! Simply amazing my friend! You are, without a doubt, my favorite drummer right now! Keep up the great work! Cheers!! :) Also,at 3:15...those fills are DRUMTASTIC!!
Christ! Absolutely blown away! Not just by this song but by every single cover you do! Think I need to start stacking my HHX Ozone with an old crash that I don't use anymore! That combo sounds bad ass!
I was literally already confused when you started tapping in the beat with your hi-hat. I couldn't even do that, let alone the rest of the song. I love your video's!
To be really honest man, i am not into playing drums, nor do i know even a single thing about them playing, but one thing that i know is that this track is one of the most talented tracks i've ever heard!! Even more than that, i know it very well that AAL is one godly band!! Their compositions are out of this world, and i thought no one can cover them... But after looking at you playing, of all tracks "weightless", that too drums, seriously dude, i am sooo not surprised!! Thank you so much!
I looked at the screen and i was amazed to see i was only 2 minutes into the video. GREAT job man. Earned yourself a subscriber. Love me some Animals as Leaders :)
I've been studying your technique for a while now because I've been into this kind of playing since I heard tool for the first time when I was very young. Been playing for 9 years now and I play in the band ocean of mirrors in portland. Just wanted to let you know, since tuning into your videos I've improved vastly on my technique. Keep up the good work!
Love how always people are saying that this or that drummer plays the part so good that he should become drummer of the band. I don't know if most of you guys realise, but there is a HUGE difference when we're talking about playing a written piece, or being creative and constructing your own musical pieces. Mr. Wright plays the drums very juicily, but I think a lot of people underestimate what it means to be in a band and make your own shit. Still, a kickass cover ;)
Dude, those cymbals...perfect sound and combination. I like the setup too, with the splashes so close to the hats, and the stack in the center. oh yeah you are also good at drums
I can't believe you pulled off this song. I was just listening to it a few days ago thinking "christ, I wouldn't even know where to start if I wanted to learn this song." Did you have music or learn it by ear?

That stick flip into the cross stick was beautiful
Ben Rice my exact thoughts
It was so nice he did it twice
It's one thing to play a song like this accurately. But to do it with such power and finesse at the same time... just amazing!
@TheMattkeeling thanks man. i transcribe the music from ear using sibelius. All the editing was done on my mac using protools for the audio and final cut x for all video editing
@mwb78 I found them to be a little heavier than the stock beaters. The stock beaters also chew down quite fast. The quad beaters give more slap and click as well
The drumming at the end of this just puts a perfect finish to this album. Love it!!
You're combination all of the characteristic I love:
Power, technique, speed and coordination.
The awkward moment when this cover has more views than the original version!
Love this cover
What makes this video better than any other is the that fact that he side-sticks properly.
Jesus H. Christ. Troy is the best drummer on youtube by FAR. Screw Cobus and Luke Holland, this Aussie takes the crown in my opinion.
@TheForward3 Thanks man. Probably not. That section of the song i treated as an ad lib section just playing it all on the spot with out any written parts etc
Watching you play literally makes me happy and gives me hope
This deserves all the views on TH-cam combined. No one in their right mind would ever dislike this.
probably on the top 10 list of best drummers in the world right now
@drums258 I've been working on a lot of other things in between this and my last video but i only started Weightless about a month ago. (transcribing, practicing, learning etc)
This is the best drumming video on youtube. Hands Down.
Really inspirational... I've watched thousands of drumming videos over the past few years and I have to say this is one of the best performances I've seen. Well felt and perfectly compliments the music. I find so many drummers with lots of technique tend to struggle playing soulfully, with feel and energy. So damn refreshing!
1:29 is honestly one of the most beautiful transitions I've ever seen performed by a live drummer...spot on, man!
@DavidChoiDrumz Man sticks, metronome and a pad is a valuable necessity for any drummer.. Im sure you're playing singles, doubles and all the diddles at speed. Also check out my Polyrhythm videos on my lesson channel. That may help.
I'm a guitarist, but I keep coming back to your videos, it's so fun to watch you play!
I'm really late here... but I had to watch it again... Cogratulations, man! You are a huge talent!
Can't stop watching this. Been watching it since the day it was posted, each day at least once >
@mamanatare1 i will be posting more videos over the next couple of months
Yea Troy, is a freaking beast PERIOD!!!!!!!
thanks man, the other snare you can hear is the fill on the original track
I cried tears of joy when I saw you uploaded a new video..
your stick control and accuracy is absolutely brilliant! your ghost notes are so good, brilliant!
Those snare shots are so darn satisfying.
mr. wright, you are a joy to watch on dem drums. keep the videos coming, i love watching them.
INCREDIBLE, your flips to cross-sticking were SO smooth, and the drum solo section was just genius. You win.
i dont know how should i describe this wilderness...i LOVE it!!!!!!!!!
You play some damn good tracks man, and always with a bit of your own flair. Love your work.
5 years ago you gave me a tab when I was studying in school, I just want to say Thankyou. I'm teaching now :)
You are one of my biggest inspirations on drums right now
Ok. This is the most awesome drum-video for this great song!
troywright never disappoints, best youtube drummer out there!
I watched this, went off and did a practice, and suddenly I was playing things I have never played before. Your vids are magic! xD
The best thing that i find works with my students is to go back to easy to intermediate grooves that you can already play, then play the ride instead of the hats and add 8th notes on the left foot along with the various grooves. try and various tempos and then go back and do the same exercises but with quarter notes on your left foot
Mate, I liked all your videos, but I think this is the best one so far. Ultra amazing!
Cheers!! :)
Also,at 3:15...those fills are DRUMTASTIC!!
Dayum! that "reverse-hold-buzz-roll" at 1:30 was smooth as hell!
I thoroughly enjoyed this.
amazing job! this is now one of my all time favorite videos on youtube.
I was smiling the whole way through
Unreal to hear man. Thanks for commenting!
I think that it's impossible to play drums any better than this. Seen this many times and it's always amazing :D
Christ! Absolutely blown away! Not just by this song but by every single cover you do! Think I need to start stacking my HHX Ozone with an old crash that I don't use anymore! That combo sounds bad ass!
I've been watching a lot of your vids and this track was by far your tightest, hands down!!'!!!!!! Keep em coming
I really love that bleed bit that you play in the solo.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts here. I'm glad you've gotten some inspiration from these videos!
This guy is amazing, he deserves more notoriety and a great band!
amazing just amazing. timing and all that jazz.
Absolutely fantastic job as always. Every one of your drum parts is a masterpiece
Gotta love Sabian cymbals. Best sounding cymbals. They all got a depth and heavy feel to them whatever size
They definitely make the best hihats. Crashes and rides are pretty good, but I'd rather Meinls for those. Aaand their chinas just kinda suck.
Amazing work man. Truely a fantastic recording and display of professionalism. Highly enjoyed it
@fabio6363 i will definitely be tackling some Virgil Donati at a later stage!
absolutely amazing Troy! Your fills are so awesome and you have the such good feel for all the songs you play. I love seeing new videos from you.
I looked at the screen and i was amazed to see i was only 2 minutes into the video. GREAT job man. Earned yourself a subscriber. Love me some Animals as Leaders :)
love how your pedals are so RESPONSIVE!!!!!
Yes to this! Absolutely one of a kind incred. Can't wait till I can follow you in a band, dude.
Good for you man
@Snorkel00 spins are too tricky and less fun.. its the quickest way for me to get the other end for cross sticks
@MintahDrums Thanks a lot man, much appreciated!
SICK dude..
best AAL drum cover i've ever seen
1:30 no way hes playing that roll
I've been studying your technique for a while now because I've been into this kind of playing since I heard tool for the first time when I was very young. Best sounding snare on TH-cam.
That left foot is AMAZING! Awesome!
It's nice knowing an Aussie has the best drum covers on youtube. You also look like Daniel Mortimer from the Roosters.
I usually don't enjoy drum covers, but this was amazing. Very impressive job, dude.
I have been watching you for days now and there is seriously no rock prog drummer out there that you can't interpret! If there is then God exists
@george5030 the snare was sounding great with my in ears in.. admittedly i do agree it may be a little tight. cheers dude
Holy crap that was one of the best cover I've ever seen, I love your style!!
man, seriously this is freaking perfect, i cried a little
I still get goosebumps when I watch this! Amazing ending :D
and cant wait for your TesseracT videos!!
the creator of that drum track is a MASTER
Troy Wright definitely deserves more attention. NOT those drummers who cover lady gaga or other hip hop songs........
It's insane. You make it look SO easy!
Love how always people are saying that this or that drummer plays the part so good that he should become drummer of the band. I don't know if most of you guys realise, but there is a HUGE difference when we're talking about playing a written piece, or being creative and constructing your own musical pieces. Still, a kickass cover ;)
i truly apprecieate that you give your transcriptions for free man, big kudos
im still appreciating it
Dude, those cymbals...perfect sound and combination. I like the setup too, with the splashes so close to the hats, and the stack in the center. oh yeah you are also good at drums
You are my second favorite drummer Troy Wright!!
I love how you're keeping a quarter note hi-hats at 1:53. Awesome.
I kinda wish you were the one to step in for Navene...
Time signature : 3/8 or 3/16 . Troy , after I saw this , I have to say , you did this cover beautifully!
I don't think there's a better sounding drumkit on youtube, everything just souns so damn tasty! :D
Legend has it hes still playing to this day
Bro same.
Great job!!! that was really fun to watch!
@mompfreed1 yes mate i mix and edit my videos myself
Totally beast cover man. You're rolling with two of my favourite cymbals in my collection, Legacy Heavy Ride and Legacy Ride. Unbelievable cymbals!
SUCH AUTHORITY! 😮💪
Que lindo👏👏👏👏👏👏✨
I can't believe you pulled off this song. I was just listening to it a few days ago thinking "christ, I wouldn't even know where to start if I wanted to learn this song." Did you have music or learn it by ear?
From 3:00 on is pure eargasm. Excellent groove and coordination!
Damn I remember this one like it was yesterday!! Good old days bro
3:19-4:00 is CRAZY!!!!!! god you killed it man, that was awesome.
