  • Fiskardo is one of the most beautiful and picturesque settlements on the island of Kefalonia, which preserves the unaltered traditional architecture of the houses and streets, being the only village left intact after the devastating earthquake of 1953, which destroyed most of the Greek towns in the Ionian Sea basin.
The village of Fiskardo is located 49.5 km north of Argostoli, the capital of the island of Kefalonia, the main attraction being the port area, where you will find many private yachts and small fishing boats, terraces, restaurants and taverns where you can dine, but also with a wonderful view to the neighboring island - Ithaca.
The traditional buildings with Venetian architecture, painted in beautiful colors and decorated with geraniums and boungainvilea flowers, border the natural bay giving the village a unique charm, thousands of tourists arriving in Fiskarko even if only for a few hours to taste the special charm of this place.
The name of Fiskardo is the adaptation of the name of Roberto d'Altavilla (duke of Puglia, Calabria and Sicily between 1059 and 1085), also called Roberto Giuskardo, the invader and conqueror of the northern area of the island of Kefalonia, an important hero in Greek history, who died in Kefalonia in 1085. At that time the town was called Panormos, which in translation means "safe harbor".
Fiskardo is the northernmost port of the island of Kefalonia and has become one of the most popular tourist ports in the Ionian Sea. Although in recent years Fiskardo is practically stormed by thousands of tourists, the settlement has retained its picturesque air and authenticity, not being influenced by mass tourism.
Fiskardo is perfect for quiet and romantic vacations, being located right in the middle of nature. The port is absolutely special, with boats willing to take tourists for a walk in the bays in the area, real jewels for the soul. And Fiskardo is also great for shopping: cute souvenir shops, but not only that. Here you can also find Italian shops, being a popular place for Italian residents and accessible to them from the point of view of transport.
Fiskardo has remained and will always bear the status of Kefalonia's mirror, because it perfectly highlights this island: traditional and natural, picturesque and authentic, a corner of Greece that preserves its traditions, education and principles.
