@@Tracert-mc1hu Job hunting is usually what I hear that line referring to. Though I did have a polite young woman call while in the middle of labor to please request an extension so she could inform her family the baby was coming. That one made me so uncomfortable, I quickly set up an arrangement for her, lol (and if you don't know, going into labor doesn't mean the baby is arriving that second, usually contractions can last hours before the actual birth. I could hear the woman holding back being in pain as I got the arrangement set up, ending the call with a hasty congratulations, lol)

Yeah pretty damn accurate people call in talking to others any type of way. They forget it’s humans on the other end doing a job. Always remember be nice to that person on the phone because if you’re wanting something fixed or help well your attitude will determine how likely we are to actually go the extra mile to help. Think of it as if you were getting that call from yourself.

However calling in straight with an attitude because someone else didn’t speak to you right isn’t fair the the person that you speak with next. I deal with this all the time I do have a passion for my job, I get told well the person before you didn’t seem to care why should I think you will then proceed with I want it done now. I do my best to turn that around. Also there are some people that have a entitlement attitude and think we can break policy so it’s a plethora of things I agree it goes both ways yes.

Be polite but be firm. If they try to comprise with you when you know they're in the wrong, don't cave. Then had to call AGAIN later when they tried to charge my account. Amazon is ridiculous

Oddly enough. My co-workers would apologize then get cussed out and disrespected by clients...then apologize some more. Meanwhile that never really happened to me and I rarely ever apologized unless I personally felt it was necessary. My co-workers would be apologizing and calling them sir and ma'am. Then they'd get off the phone all upset and vent to the rest of us. I thought for the longest time they were just being overly dramatic and exaggerating... until I eavesdropped into my supervisors call and she was getting chewed tf out by a client.
As an employee you can't be too nice to some folks because they will see it as a weakness and walk all over you. Especially because they know as an employee you'll have to hold your tongue to keep your job.

@@JRenee141 I was super nice when I worked at a call center, but I didn’t apologize. Those types will talk over a customer to apologize. I just let the customer rant for a while and looked through their account. When they ran out of steam I’d come back and say, “It sounds like [problem]. That’s frustrating!I’ve checked [problem area] and can tell you [reason]. What I can do is [solution].” That worked for most people. I never had calls escalated to supes or got cussed out.

If you're going to work call center jobs and if you can work from home (sometimes, this requires having a space in a room in the house with a door you can lock, like your bedroom), please consider going remote. You open yourself up to so many other jobs across the country and better pay. And don't be scared to apply to some places that don't post the pay, not all of them are hiding crap wages.
Twice now, that has lead me to get jobs above what I was looking for and even above the current average, which is about $15. My last job was $20/hr and the job I was just offered yesterday is salaried at $40K, but I'm negotiating to get it to $41,600, which is $20/hr as I want to at least make what I previously was. I'll negotiate for even better later down the road if I know I'm doing a great job.
Neither of these jobs listed the pay on their posting. It's better to check for: what benefits the job offers, how many people they're looking for with the role or words like "we have an extreme need to fill this role!" And they're needing 10+ people...that's likely a job with high turnover), do they provide your equipment or do you have to provide your own (I recommend always going with jobs that provide you the equipment, don't run down your home computer if you don't have to) or what requirements are being requested. These will give you an idea of if it will be a high or low paying job if the amount isn't posted. The $20/hr one informed they will pay our health benefits for employees...that's seriously not normal and while the requirements weren't anything hard to have achieved and required no degree (I don't have one), it told me this was a company that might be good and I was right. I only lost the job because the state we were contracted with didn't want to renew the contract. It was also online chat instead of over the phone, which was really awesome.
My hint for my new job was that it was a national tech company working for multiple states and it has good reviews on multiple sites from current and former employees. Also, while it's remote, I had to come in office for the interview and once I saw it was downtown in the fancy office area of my city, I knew they likely had some money, or rather, could likely pay me above standard as well and I was right. Maybe $40K-ish isn't fantastic in the bigger picture, but it's plenty for me and more than what I made before I got to that level. In 2020, after hustling my ass off at a company for teo and a half years and getting raises, I capped out at $12.75 for my position. To go from that to $20 while doing practically the same thing was eye-opening.
So, if you're going to work at a call center anyways, at least do so for decent pay. And if you can handle sales (I can't, lol), you likely can make way more than that, depending on the company.

I took a job at a call center as tech support for a software company at THE worst time of my life when I was in my 20s. I was utterly MISERABLE. But a couple months in they asked me if I wanted to be a tester. I said yes, and a couple months after that, they offered me a job as an automation developer, with an office, despite me having no programming experience. I learned on the job. (And a LOT of studying on my own time)

I've never hated any job I've worked so far as I hate my current one. It's a call center. It's not even strictly inbound calls like this one where people ask for you. You also have to call and make sales for commision. I've been busting my ass for years working dead end jobs in construction, supermarkets and such and even tho I work here now for like 17 months and It's paying as well as you could considering the 3rd world shithole I am frome I have never been so miserable as I am now. With the other jobs sure it pays less, more hours but the job doesn't get to you. You come home from your shift, relax a bit maybe smoke one and you are okay. Here I come home every day at 5 30. It takes me at least an hour and a half of doing virtually nothing to sort of get my head right.
