It meets the current prerequisite of all EV cars: They just have to be ugly. It's an established rule or something now. This one just needs a grill adjustment though and the rest looks pretty good!
I had a test drive in the M50 a couple months ago. I've driven everything from Vettes, to Porsches, and this vehicle was awesome. Quick, composed, quiet. It's high on my list to replace my current vehicle. The reviewer said she didn't understand why the transmission tube is there, well BMW saved a ton of development cost by using the i4 frame w/o developing this EV from the ground up. Not ideal, but not terrible, and it's gonna save consumers the added expense.
@@gigi9467 Not if you want the instant throttle response of an EV, without the noise that attracts law enforcement. On the Dragy with 1 ft roll out I achieved 3.26 sec 0-60, Car And Driver got 3.3 sec. 11.59 @ 120mph on the Dragy, which is pretty impressive "for a 5000lb car."
Have just ordered the I35. Don’t need the slightly better 0-60 time or battery capacity. And the price is right. Have owned Beemers since the 70’s and love the looks of this one. I have seen the light after being a never ecar guy for years.
I have a BMW I4 EDrive40 and I absolutely love it. The only downer is the tires seem to go by faster. It's probably from just driving the car fast and on me. But hey I don't have to pay for an engine, transmission or much else so I can justify going through tires twice as fast.
I am indifferent to BMW's. Wouldn't spend my money there. But what brings me joy is Lyn's G squat @0:56. Brings me back to the early 2000's/FastnFurious/HotImportNight days.
This car is absolutely beautiful! I purchased Tesla model three performance a year and a half ago, but if I was buying now, I would’ve taken a second look at this one! Though for the money…I would’ve thought that BMW would give you more range! On their site, it shows 227-276 mile range. Which is not great. Perhaps after couple years of battery degradation …I’m assuming it can go down to 200 mile range?
7500$ no longer applied. It's made in Germany. Also, looks like your video was edited months ago. There's a update to the lineup the lowest trim is now edrive35.
5:43. Thank you for mentioning that. I think politicians don't understand where EV batteries come from and what it takes to get the materials needed. Props to BMW for making an effort and hope other manufacturers follow. Otherwise it's more environmentally friendly and better for humanity to produce an ICE. Though, I still think hydrogen is better than EV's haha
Something that wasn't brought up here is the fact the motor doesn't use permanent magnets (and the rare earth minerals to formulate them) but uses instead electromagnetic coils.
I agree with you instead of releasing the cybertruck, semi, completing the plans for the Model 2, finishing developing neuralink or handling quality control issues he decided to buy Twitter...
The back seat is very difficult to get in and out of. I was going to get one until I sat back there. No room under the seats for your feet and the contortions I had to go thru were too much for me.
This thing is quicker than all the RWD variants of the M3/M4 but not quite as quick as the AWD Competition models. This would be a far more compelling vehicle if the range wasn’t so poor.
Drove the M50 at the UDE. Definitely understeers when pushed to the limit. The cars we drove did not have the iconic sounds enabled (or equipped?). Some people in my group left because they said it was "boring" and didn't stay for all their runs. I would agree. It suffered from being "souless" and in turn made this the most boring UDE ever. I stayed, cause, yea, free "track" time. But I do agree, EV's have a "soul" problem. I wonder if the iconic sounds would have helped (at least on the interior). I only wish they had the eDrive40 to drive at the UDE too. I asked one of the instructors his preference and if he had driven both on track and said he said he liked the eDrive40 better for the autocross. That's in line with the legit auto jounalists. I did the BMW EV Experience earlier and got to street drive the e40. It's properly quick once in motion. As much as I would like the M50, after the UDE plus street drives... meh.. there's really no where to use all the power on a daily basis, safely and legally. But due to the lack of engine noise, you can't compensate by holding gears longer at low speeds to evoke emotion. My personal opinion is that the eDrive40 with M-Sport package is the driver's car. The M50 is for those that consider or prioritize straight line speed as the sole peformance metric. For daily driver and weekend canyon carver, go with the former. For stoplight to stoplight warrior, freeway on ramp champ, and lover of departing Cars and Coffee (+ curbs + lightposts + crowds + ditches on the side of road) go with the M50.
Both cars are great, however they are in different segments of the market. If you value luxury and driving dynamics the i4 is a much better option. If practicality and value is more important than the Ioniq 5 would be a better choice. PS, a fully loaded Ioniq 5 starts at 51k and base model i4 starts at 55k. Not a huge difference until you start to add options.
A great performer, but the grille still looks ugly, and the interior needs to be way better for that price. I expected leather on the dash and upper doors, the suede headliner and the lumbar adjustment isn't standard? What? Also hating how even basic settings are getting buried in these giant screens
Wow. It weighs more than an SUV. based on the 4 series 15.8 gallon tank, if you have 270 miles of range, that's only 16.8 mpg. I'm sure it's even lower than that.
I have the BMW i4 eDrive 40 on order and I'll share some numbers I was working on yesterday. My i4 has a battery capacity of 83 kwh and a range of roughly 300 miles (greater than the M50 in this video). Here in Virginia, I pay 13 cents per kwh so a full home charge will cost a little over $10. In comparison, if i wanted to drive the same 300 miles on my Toyota 4Runner (averaging 19MPG), I would spend about $52, assuming a cost of $3.30 per gallon. For my particular situation, the ICE fuel cost is 500% greater than the EV.
MPGe is based on 1 gallon of gas equaling about 33.4kWh. So on only "2.4 gallons of energy" this thing goes about 240 miles. So 100MPGe, not 16.8 mpg, lol.
@@westoncharm7467 Not unless the government jacks the price of electricity for your house by that amount too. So again 80kWh of energy runs about $12 to recharge here with SCE. That same 240 miles in a gas car at 24mpg would take 10 gallons x $5/gallon $50 vs $12 for electricity. Electricity price could double, and it would still be cheaper to run an EV.
When they say it's ethically sourced, they are just paying for someone to give them a certificate and take the blame when people find out, plausible deniability.
This video is extremely inaccurate. The range, and even the base price is not accurate either. But overall this car is a converted ICE car and for that reason alone I think you will get better EVs elsewhere.
