They actually stopped to listen to Kate screaming 26:21 when she realized how many new turtles Kenan just brought home. You can hear someone off camera snickering 26:24 thru their nose right afterwards.

When you released the last turtles, while the one sitting on land checking everything out, his buddy was waiting in the water with his head up saying, "C'mon in, the water's great!" They definitely have a connection.

My ultimate dream as a reptile lover and part of the exotics hobbies is to someday work in conservation, so it's so amazing to see you being able to do all you can for these amazing terrapin species!
Being familiar with the Prospect Park Zoo in Brooklyn, NY Kenan will appreciate this. Two years ago they were cleaning / re-landscaping the large pond in the Japanese Garden at the Bklyn Botanic Garden. Because their numbers had exploded they decided to relocate 2 doz red-eared sliders and a doz soft shells across the street into the lake in Prospect Park. A short while after the release someone noticed a group of asian females catching the newly released turtles and putting them into burlap bags. Luckily the police were called and quickly arrested the offenders. Under questioning the females admitted the turtles were headed for the Chinese food markets downtown in Chinatown, NYC.
So satisfying watching those turtles look around and take their first dip into their new home! Nothing like it!
Those little marble eyes are ENCHANTING! Love the new additions -- one and all --- especially those big guys who came from the confiscation. Thank God they're at Kamp Kenan!
My boys enjoy watching him, I like to watch him because he is handsome. So win win.
70 yrs. It literally brought tears to my eyes and put a lump in my throat. And after all those years, here they are, to live the rest of life in the care of one of the best turtle stewards on the planet. That was SO heartwarming!

I recently just came back home after spending a year in Vietnam, and while I was there I got to see the legendary grandfather Turtle in the Turtle Lake Temple and that thing was a true giant.
Isn't the grandfather turtle dead??? Wikipedia said he died in 2016
@@ViraLCyclopes Yes, unfortunately he did die. but his remains was preserved and put on display inside the temple/museum. along with the last female that lived with him.

i get excited about animals too and love learning about the. I enjoy seeing there behavior and personalities coming out. I believe you can learn a lot about animals and can just respect them as a species.
When I was in college (2006-2010) From my one-bedroom apartment I had three tanks. At any given time I had about 5 turtles people didn't want. I dove into researching them hard but unfortunately at the time they ALL were Yellow Sliders. I managed to bring a few backs from injury and carefully handled them until I knew they would be safe for rehoming them. I had many more others tried to rehome, and I had worked with Busch Gardens and local sanctuaries/vets. I still have two, one my mother found that started it all in the parking lot puddle of her work. No ponds or anything around I believe that sucker has to be 20 years old and I have been TRYING to help my parents get a good setup going, but they keep saying owe child support for her. The second is with me in a 60gl tank and canister set up that I got before I lost my FT job LOL but I'm doing my best to keep up with it. Glad I stocked up on supplies.
You helping these turtles made me tear up. I know this video wasn't long ago but this is what I had hoped to do one day, working and helping these animals. The road is tough still. Keep it up because this is so wonderful to see someone doing too. I mean I couldn't have been the only one wanting something like that and suddenly youtube finally shows me. Ha. I know there are big shows and stuff for this but it's good to see someone had brought themselves up on it all the way.

You know the similarity you see in the Malayan box turtle and the Vietnamese pond turtle. That's not by coincidence as the species are closely related and can even make hybrids from what I've read.

I had some Vietnamese pond turtles as pets over 20 years ago when I still live in Vietnam, they were wild caught by my dad and his friends. So sad to see them listed as extinct in the wild now.

I've got at least one or two Laibach CDs in my collection too, just haven't listened to it in a loooong time. Would require some digging!

Loved the video so many wonderful turtles. I also just want to thank you Kenan for all that you do, I grew up on a farm with loads of animals, I understand all the work that goes into caring for so many! I always watch your videos first because you are living what I had hope to do with my life. I wanted to have a animal sanctuary, I wanted to be a vet and be able to care also for animals that rather couldn't stay with their humans anymore, or take in mistreated animals to be rehabilitated and find new homes. Unfortunately I suffered 2 different injuries to my brain and now I am pretty much stuck in my home (not looking for sympathy just stating the facts). Your videos bring me so much joy! So thanks again Kenan for all that you do and for bringing us on the journey with you and your family!
