He ducks, no question about it. He is attempting to subvert the rules. Great to see him pulled up. Just like Kevin "Hungry" Bartlett used to do when he threw the ball out in front of himself just before he was to be tacked. At first he got free kicks for holding the man, then the rules were sharpened up and determined that it was not holding the man when the man was in control of the ball. Gilligan's ducking tactics are just as blatant an attempt to subvert the rules and he should in no way be rewarded. Quite the opposite. He should be penalized for staging for free kicks with a 50 meters penalty thrown in.. i know it is the collingwood way but it is a long way from the spirit of the game. Just get on and play gilligan without all the ducking histrionics. If that is all you have got it is pretty Pi## poor. It would be dreadfully bad luck if he had his teeth knocked out whilst ducking. If he wants to stage they are looking for blokes like that in the soccer codes.
commentators saying 'ginnivan tax' is a bit rich, i get some should've been called high when they were a ball up but also, its his own fault. The umpires are obviuosly going to pay more attention to him doing it as he had done it so reguarly, compared to any other player in the league who does it once in a game after never dropping to their knees in a contest before. Don't mind some getting paid as holding the ball if he's clearly dove into the tacklers arm or has thrown the arm up to put the tacklers arm around his neck, I think the ones where he may drop the knees a tad just before getting tackled should still be a high tackle as it's the tacklers fault for laying a lazy tackle
Just bad technique and/or overly aggressive tackling. Every free kick paid was legit and every one show here they didn't pay was also clearly a free kick. There's one set of rules for every player, but last year Ginnivan had to play by a different set of rules, which was not fair.
Ducking & raising the arm to get a free kick should be prior opportunity & holding the ball immediately. Get this crap out of the game!
