Something to think about: February is month of warnings. February 23rd 1619 in Old Goa, February 8th 1636 in Old Goa. February 26 2003 in Camurlim, Salcete, 7 centuries apart.

The Weeping Portrait of Sacred Heart of Jesus at Naquelim-Camurlim (Salcete, Goa) 26/2/2003:
20 YEARS NOW: WE MISSED THE WARNING AND THE DIVINE SOLUTION
20 years ago, Goans will remember the headlines in the local Goan dailies on Friday February 28, 2003, of the weeping portrait of Sacred Heart of Jesus. The event occurred in the house of Mascarenhas family at Naquelim - Camurlim, Salcete, Goa on Wednesday February 26, 2003 at 11:30 pm. Two young girls, Steffi and her elder sister Sonia, then 14 and 16 years respectively were the 1st to notice the miracle. Steffi was studying late night to prepare for her SSC exams, while her sister had just retired to bed. Steffi saw the Portrait weeping tears of blood and immediately woke her sister up. They then informed the other members of their family including their grandmother. The neighbours were informed next, who then conveyed the news to their Parish Priest. The Parish Priest immediately shifted the weeping portrait to the Church Our Lady of Candelaria Church at Ambora, Camurlim. Next day news spread like wild fire and thousands of devotees queued up to have a glimpse of the portrait at Our Lady of Candelaria Church at Ambora, Camurlim; where the portrait was kept for public veneration. People irrespective of creed stood in the long queue which stretched to a kilometer away from the Church. The faithful were seen fervently praying the Holy Rosary as they patiently waited for their turn.
The Archdiocese of Goa stepped in and the 1st thing they did was to take an undertaking that the family is donating the weeping portrait to them. (Neighbours realized that they were tricked into legally surrendering it, only when they requested the Portrait back, after it was declared a fake and their request turned down).
The Archdiocese of Goa then sought time to study the ‘phenomenon’ and appointed a special Committee headed by Auxiliary Bishop Filipe Neri Ferrao in May 2003 to study the case and submit a proper objective report to the Archbishop.
The theologians, scientists, medico-legal experts and sociologists appointed by the Archdiocese of Goa (including non-Catholics) in May 2003 to study claims of the Miracle turned down the possibility of a miracle in their report which was published in the pastoral bulletin “RENOVAÇÃO” of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman in their January 1 -15, 2004, which was circulated to the public from Thursday 8th January, 2004. The special Committee concluded saying;’ the nature and composition of the alleged tears clearly show that they are not tears - and not tears of blood.’ But the special Committee failed to mention (deliberately?) the composition or nature of the substance that flowed from the eyes of the portrait. The Goan dailies based on the statement in the “RENOVAÇÃO” bulletin reported in their news on Friday January 9, 2004.
From Thursday January 8, 2004 the day “RENOVAÇÃO” bulletin was circulated with the special Committee report on the weeping portrait of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Goa experienced an extraordinary ‘phenomenon’ in the weather pattern in North and South Goa with strong winds accompanied by fires all over Goa from 8 to 11 January, 2004 (Thursday to Sunday) which was reported by the Goan dailies from 9 to 12 January, 2004 resulting in heavy loses to property due to the burning fires.

Here are some questions which remain unanswered. Why did Jesus weep? Blood is always associated with danger and ‘tears of blood’ is the concern shown by Our Lord for the impending danger. But our Archdiocese denied that He wept. On what basis is the denial? What tests were conducted? Where are the reports of the tests conducted? They denied that they were tears of blood. Have they ever seen tears of blood before? A prominent leader of the Church even labeled it as a superstition. Also, why are they hiding the Portrait now, even though it is declared a fake? Why not give it back? Let the people see and decide whether it is fake or genuine.
The girls and their family have undergone a lot of trauma and stigmatization. We made a visit to their house some years ago. We were told that the 2 sisters are abroad now, to earn their livelihood and the family is unwilling to give any contact, as they say that they have suffered enough. They still stand by the ‘girls’ that it was a miracle, but they say that they have to obey the Archbishop, hence the silence. Many false accusations were labeled on them, including that they wanted to make money. The proof against this is that it is 20 years since the miracle and they have not made any ‘extra money’ and are earning their daily bread, working hard like all of us. Note that the “Fatima children” too had to undergo a lot of trouble, but perhaps they had some supporters to fight for them, who stood with them and proved the miracle.
After this denial, the state of the Roman Catholic Church in Goa has gone from bad to worse. Catholics are losing faith in the church hierarchy and joining other Protestant sects. There are many who have started their own Churches too. Scandals in the Church are coming to the fore; every Parish has some sort of scandal and all over Goa church properties sold like biscuits, including whole islands like Vaxim. In general, non-Goans have increased and are pushing Goans out of their homes and properties. Mega projects are threatening to change the basic character of Goa. Madei issue, rise of fascism, Mopa Airport, Regional Plan, Mega Projects, CZMP, ect. Add to it the 3 projects: Railway double tracking, Mollem Power Project and expansion of Highways all for the quick transportation of coal through Goa. Then there is the Major Ports bill, creating Mormugao as a state within Goa. Thus Goa stands at the edge of the precipice of the loss of its land and identity. Was Jesus trying to tell us something Camurlim in 2003? Warn us and give us a solution? At Rianjo, Spain in 1931 Our Lord Himself told Sister Lucy: “Make it known to my ministers, given that if they follow the example of the King of France in delaying the execution of My command, they will follow him into misfortune.” But here in this case of Camurlim, we didn’t even accept the miracle, forget the message.
Was this miracle some sort of a warning for Goans to get ready and prepare to fight? Was Heaven trying to provide an easy solution for these problems? If yes, then surely we have missed it. Tough days are ahead for Goa and Goans. Goa is getting destroyed at an unimaginable pace.
At the world level, the Covid plandemic followed by the Vaccine has brought about deaths and suffering. The year old war between Russia and Ukraine, has very much the potential for World War 3. Catholics are losing faith and atheism is on the rise all over the world. Goa being known as the “Rome of the East”, was there a message for the world too?
Please note that 100 years before the French Revolution, Our Lord had commanded in His apparition to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque on June 17, 1689 (apparition approved by the Church as worthy of belief) to consecrate France to the Sacred Heart, which was sadly ignored. A succession of subsequent French Kings also failed to follow this command. One hundred years to that day after that apparition- on the 17th of June 1789-King Louis XVI of France was stripped of his power by the Third Estate and four years later he was guillotined. His attempt to consecrate France in his jail cell while he awaited execution was too little, too late; it was not the solemn public act that Our Lord had commanded so that the whole world would know that His power had saved France. Along with the King, a lot of Catholic Priests, nuns and laypersons were massacred brutally in the French Revolution.
Unless we repent, fast, sacrifice, do penance and pray unceasingly, specially the Rosary (the old prayers only, as all prayers have been changed to make them ineffective) with a repentant heart, we are heading for our painful extinction.
      A Prayer:
O Lord, I know that Thy Sacred Heart is in deep anguish, seeing the majority of mankind on the steady road to the eternal abyss. Thou didst count on Thy faithful Catholics, also in this once glorious Catholic City of Goa, but even they left Thee for the most part. Thou didst want to ask Thy faithful to atone with Thee for the sins of the world in union with Thy Sacrifice in the True Mass and with Thy Mystical Passion in the Holy Eucharist. But the words of scripture were renewed and Thou findest no one to console Thee. Thou art actually constantly weeping and the depth of anguish of Thy Sacred Heart will be more shown if Thy tears would even be bleeding, just as Thy sweats turned to blood in Gethsemane. But whether weeping or bleeding, how insensible and obstinate we are! Supposing of a miracle we are inclined to be caught up by sensation and rush to see in multitude the extraordinary event, just to forget everything tomorrow! Even if it was Thy miracle, the holding of its truth serves to nothing without our amendment of life. So we understand that finally counts what we have derived as a lesson from this phenomenon …! Yes, Lord, I thank Thee for having given me this opportunity to meditate on the appeal of Thy Sacred Heart to us. May I be faithful to console and atone to Thy Sacred Heart constantly, never leaving Thee in Thy permanent Gethsemane of today! Amen.
(This above prayer was composed by a Japanese priest Rev. Father Paul Kawakatsu on 27th March, 2006, in honour of the apparition of The Sacred Heart of Jesus in Camurlim, Goa).
Joseph L. R. Vaz (Navelim, Salcete)
