I've heard a couple former WCW wrestlers in interviews say the decision to cancel WCW was really made a year before WWF bought it & they couldn't really spend any money but they had to honor agreements with arenas, advertisers etc, & keep it going for a year. So that would of been March or April 2000 when WCW shut down for 2 weeks & came back with starting the Bischoff/Russo & Millionaires New Blood thing. It's kinda sad as just a fan the way WCW fell apart at the end & went away forever.
WCW never got any of the ad revenue from TBS/TNT et al. They did get ad revenue from WCW Pay-Per-Views. TCM - Turner wanted to push Turner Classic Movies back then, so evening (PM) wrestling needed to sort of go. Ted Turner owned all those movies so 100% profit with little costs.

They are incredible little motors when they are running correctly, but they are so complicated and prone to some serious failures, especially if you aren’t religious with oil changes and change the oil every 4-5k tops. And even if you ARE on top of maintenance they can STILL run into failures.
