Here's a neat trick for bore sighting. Deprime a new or fired cartridge and insert in the barrel with bolt removed. Line up with bullseye and adjust scope. The empty primer hole is way more precise than just using the barrel.
Get to a range where you can stretch it out to at least 500yds so you can verify the drops. You might have to fine tune the ballistic settings based on real world performance. Also, you may want to take a varmint rifle with you, like your 22-250. Works great on the smaller antelope, and they may take you to a spot to varmint shoot if you fill your bag ahead of schedule.
Hey WHO-TEE! What an awesome rig! That E6 on the 30-06 is a great pair. VERY IMPORTANT: Chrono your 'freedom seeds' and upload the correct speed of your cartridge to the BURRIS App....regardless if you've selected your cartridge from the library. You can do that. Do not use the info on the box.... Enjoy your hunt...seems you're coming to SOUTH Africa....my beautiful country. Safe travels
You have infinitely more knowledge about firearms than I do...but something that may help with remembering the scope dial directions... Picture the scope dial as a screw head and the reticle crosshair point as the tip of that screw. Elevation dial when turn to the right will drive the tip of the screw down or if you back the screw out (turn dial to the left) it will raise that reticle crosshair point. Same with windage. Screw it in (turn to the right when facing the dial) will push the tip of the reticle crosshairs to the left. Just like if you were to screw in a screw through the dial. I hope this helps and it has worked with all of the Scopes that I have used.
I’m happy for you that you are able to take this trip. Can’t wait for the content you will have afterwards. I know hunting Africa is sort of a different situation because there are caliber minimums depending on what you’re hunting and there is always a professional hunter that guides you through the bush and if it’s a real dangerous situation has your back to get a fast second shot. Thanks for everything you contribute to the community.
For plains game I think the best caliber is .300 win mag. I just bought a Ruger M77 Hawkeye African in .416 Ruger. 23 inch barrel. I’m getting approximately 2700 fps with 5500 lbs of energy at the muzzle using Buffalo Bore 350 grain lehigh solid. About 2500 fps and 5200 lbs at the muzzle using 400 grain Buffalo Bore Barnes TSX copper hollow point.
You’re gonna love it. Btw, I’ve got the Impulse Predator in 308. Love mine. The old 30:06 will do the job, esp w/that scope. I went in 03 with a Ruger boat paddle 338WM & a Leupold VXIII 3.5x10. All our shots were 150 to 300 yds. That scope you have will REALLY help. Good Luck. Hope you can film some adventures. 👍

It's a joy to see a man with as many rifles and calibers as you have. That is going to Africa with the old do everything 30.06. What other rifles are you taking?
Sweet shooting and groups. John from Big Game Hunting Adventures is a wealth of information similar to Ron Spomer and Joseph VonBenedikt. I have watched his 1.5-2 hour podcast episodes on cartridge comparisons multiple times. Happy for you and look forward to seeing your African adventures there Adam. 😃🦓🐃
Interesting choice. I'd be on a Mauser action, short barrel, irons, LPVO, fixed mag, in a caliber more suitable for opportunities on large and dangerous game like hippo, buffalo, eland, nyala and roan, 9.3mm, .375 H&H, .416 RM. .30-06 can get it done, but it will limit those opportunities requiring proper presentation and shot placement. Personally, I'd take more gun. Have a great trip Adam. Thanks WTW!

I always find that the trigger weight scale I have is just a little sensitive to overpull. So what I do is i put the gun in my lap and use only light wrist pull on the scale to avoid overpull. That gives me the most reliable readings from my experience. Also , I was measuring my Savage adjustable trigger at 3.5 lbs. and when I changed the way I measure, it went down to 2.5 without adjusting changing anything else. I was overpulling by a pound. My gunsmith says the lightest you can go to be drop safe is about 3.5. I can't verify that as I'm not dropping my precision rifle or my EBR with the special trigger group. Both guns are coming in at 2.5 now with the improved measuring technique.
