"My mom crossed the ocean so I can touch the sky.." Wonderfully expressed. Congratulations, Amanda Nguyen. You are the pride of the whole Vietnamese overseas refugees community.
Amanda did not tell the whole story; she should have said " My parent crossed the ocean on the rickety boat to escape the commie, aka Vietcong, to search for freedom."
And remember Communism is still the existential threat to humanity, as the utterly corrupt and brutal Vietnamese Commie regime still rules Vietnam now, as when it invaded the free and prosperous Republic of South Vietnam in 1975, hence the reason for Amanda parents' becoming boat people in the first place to escape Commie atrocities.
I'm from the Philippines not Vietnam but I too am crying with you and very moved by that quote. The Philippines took many of Vietnam's war refugees on their way to freedom. Fly high, Amanda!
Congrats Amanda! What an amazing accomplishment. We must not forget how our father and mother fought and sacrificed for freedom during the VN War. Many Vietnamese risked their lives at sea for their beliefs in democracy. Many Vietnamese were imprisoned for their beliefs in democracy. Thank you for sharing your story!!!
Wow congrats Amanda! way to represent all the overseas Vietnamese refugees and all the sacrifice that our boat parents had gone through. Proud! Yes we can! Thanks Katie phang for shedding the light.
As a Dad and one of the "Boat People" in the 80s', I am so humbled and proud to witness your successful journey and to be a part of your community. Thank you and your parents, best wishes!
As a Vietnamese refugee myself I'm very proud of you Amanda. You will make us - Vietnamese refugees - known to the public that we are such great contributors to this land which we all love. Good Amanda. Go! 👍 And I can't wait to see the first Vietnamese refugee Noble Prize Winner Amanda Nguyen too.

I had not heard of her before now. So many accomplishments at such a young age. And, one of those accomplishments (like it or not) was 'flying under the radar' of the public and the media. Congratulations to Amanda. I wish her the best on her next journey.
Freedom is the most important in life. If we don't have freedom. We cannot make our dreams come true. Thank you America for giving us the opportunities and for all of the people who love freedom the chance to be successful in America 🇺🇲

Her family is vietnamese so technically she represents all vietnamese people and should be proud, I don't care for communist and I don't care for your stupid option enough so please shut up if you don't know what I was saying.
Yes .... Immigrants coming to this country and becoming the greatest people is what USA is all about. This is why we're the greatest country.. it's the immigrants that make it great.. my family 300 years ago. And we didn't leave a mark like these people did..
@@LynnLee-e8h so you're saying your ancestors had written permission from indigenous people to enter their lands? Most of us didn't ask, or find land that was unoccupied _before_ the armies came.

A lovely, positive, heart-warming story we so need in these troubled, terrible times, experiences too often filling the news. Go Amanda - as a representative of all so called disadvantaged...

I am proud of her and her Vietnamese origin, she is a great successful Vietnamese American story and a shining role model for woman all over the world, It takes a wonderful democratic freedom loving country like the US that provides the opportunities for all citizens to shine regardless of their origins, woman like her will never have the same opportunities in the socially, culturally & politically oppressive country where her family originated from. she is a Vietnamese-American success story
My mom crossed the ocean so I can touch the sky...... these are beautiful words and strong message to the young and all others. Freedom is not free but along with determination and sacrification from all suffering, even death because so many of us like her mom at that time. Congratulations to young Vietnamese American, proud of you...😊
Ms. Nguyen, I am so proud of you! Not only because of your work, but more importantly because of the compassion, tenacity, dedication & vision in you that drive it. “Keep reaching for the stars” as they say it! With warmth & admiration! (Another boat person)
