      It's not actually too dissimilar to the main story. Harry disarmed Draco (literally) and won his wand, which then also lead to him gaining mastery of the Elder Wand. In this story, Harry still beat the same wand, it was just a different person wielding it.

How much does this change the Order of the Phoenix? Does Umbridge still become Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor? Does Sirius still die at the Battle of the Ministry? There are lots of questions this what if brings up and I'd be interested to hear your opinions and theories on this matter.

    I actually prefer a different scenario. I believe Draco killing Dumbledore could be the very thing that sets up Draco's redemption arc. Hear me out, Draco's allegiance is very unstable when he faces Dumbledore but he's pushed JUST over the edge to actually cast the killing curse. But he ends up being so shaken by his own actions that he begins to doubt his cause in ernest. Snape, of course, is still on his side and would notice and nourish these doubts. I'm not going to go in to all the details of how it might play out but I can see this story leading up to Draco feeling true remorse for what he's done and thereby fixing is torn soul.

      @PINKEDYPINK ปีที่แล้ว +21

      I thought this was the direction that they were going to go. Ben was talking about how Draco needed a redemption arc, said that because Draco didn't kill Dumbledore that he was on shaky ground. Draco was just sort of stuck in the middle, not evil or good. If he had killed Dumbledore, the guilt might have pushed him towards fighting for good. The pendulumn swings.

    • @Quantumpancake555
      @Quantumpancake555 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I know its a fictional story, so sorry to be this pessimistic. But in reality majority of people who kill don't feel any major amount of remorse that changes them.
      If anything, it only becomes easier to hide those emotions when they do kill again.
      Yes we are talking about a fictional world, but peoples behaviours are pretty believable in HP, that's why people feel connected to the story in such a massive way.

    Another version of this What if, is if Draco still said the spell but his heart wasn’t in it. Similar to when Harry tried the cruciatus curse on Bellatrix at end of OotP, it only knocked her off her feet.
    It’s plausible that Draco’s spell would knock Dumbledore off the tower (to his death) but would Draco’s soul remain in tact that way? Would he somehow know (and feel guilt) that he killed Dumbledore but not the way Voldemort intended???

    I don't believe for one second that Voldemort would consider Draco's service as reason for not killing him to take control of the elder wand. Can you do a "what if Draco was in Griffindoor" series, like what you did to Harry. I feel like that would've changed the trajectory of the books. Like he might’ve even warned Harry about Voldemort returning in book 4, since Lucius would've made comments about the dark mark getting stronger like what karkaroff said to Snape. And if he was warned, he might’ve left the graveyard before Wormtail came out so Cedric would be alive
    Edit: I also think Draco hesitating on the astronomy tower and trying so half-heartedly to kill Dumbledore is a giveaway to him not being a true slytherin. If he was, he would've taken the glory of killing Dumbledoor and becoming such a high-ranking Death Eater

    • @themiddleones11
      @themiddleones11 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Draco 100% is a true slytherin. Killing Dumbledore is not his ambition, it was chosen for him. He has his own ambitions and the cunning to achieve them, if that's not 100% slytherin, idk what is.

    • @ForeverDegenerate
      @ForeverDegenerate ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah... that's one of two parts I disagree with. I don't think merely defeating the wand in a duel forces all wands owned by that wand's True Owner to magically switch allegiances. As I understand it (and I could be wrong), you have to defeat the Owner, not the Wand, for wand allegiance to switch.
      But before even getting to that, there was one other thing that Ben overlooked when writing this: Voldemort had dueled Dumbledore two years prior in the Ministry of Magic. Voldemort saw Dumbledore's Wand aka The Elder Wand. He would known what The Elder Wand looked like. So unless Draco somehow made his wand look like The Elder Wand, there's no way Voldemort would have mistook Draco's Wand for The Elder Wand.

    Okay, I imagine that Bellatrix could not stand someone else being Voldy's right hand death eater and would continually work to sabotage Draco behind the scenes every chance she got. I don't believe that things would be smooth sailing for Draco despite his killing Dumbledore. Yes, Voldersnort would give him more responsibility and Draco might enjoy the cruelty more, but seeing in Deathly Hallows how the different Death eaters jockey for Voldman's approval all the time, and with Draco being young, I think that Snape and Bellatrix and maybe even Yaxley could outsmart him.

    • @carla05cw
      @carla05cw ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I disagree. Draco is one of the most intelligent characters after Hermione, it's canon that he came second in their year and that fixing the vanishing cabinet was seen as impossible by Dumbledore, one of the other most intelligent characters in the series. Plus, Bellatrix wouldn't sabotage her own Nephew. She loves her family more than she loves Voldemort, as seen when she went behind Voldemort's back to help him. Plus, if you consider the cursed child canon, Bellatrix has a place beside Voldemort no one else has.

    Can the next hypothetical be what would happen if both Draco and Snape got cold feet during the final moments of The Half-Blood Prince? We've explored if Snape kills Dumbledore, if Dumbledore never put on the Gaunt Ring and survives that night, and if Draco got his act together and killed Dumbledore, last possible scenario is if the Gaunt Ring's curse kills Dumbledore.

    • @ForeverDegenerate
      @ForeverDegenerate ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think that would ever happen. I think, no matter what, Dumbledore dies that night in the tower. If Draco and Snape don't kill him, Bellatrix will. Voldemort's Orders were very clear: Kill Dumbledore. And Bellatrix never defies a direct order from The Dark Lord. But even then, I don't think it would get that far. Remember, Snape made an Unbreakable Vow to "help Draco." If Snape refuses to kill Dumbledore, the Unbreakable Vow would immediately kill HIM. And knowing that Dumbledore is going to die anyway, Snape would kill Dumbledore to ensure his own survival because he's more valuable to The Order of The Phoenix and Harry alive than dead. The narrative is set up in a way that if Draco doesn't kill Dumbledore, Snape has to.

      @@valydendor4472 Lily didn't HAVE to die for him to kill Harry, Snape HAD to die for him to become master(or so he thought) so same would go for Draco, Voldemort would absolutely try to kill Draco for it. My issue is that Voldemort should've recognised Draco's wand and it's lack of power. First thing he did when he got the elder wand was shoot lightning into the sky (I guess he was testing it out), Draco's wand wouldn't be any more powerful than the borrowed wand Voldemort was using beforehand

      Voldemort did spare people's lives as a reward. It shows how he viewed death as the greatest threat and downfall and how he considered giving people the most basic thing, their life, as some great reward that he has the right to bestow.
      I hate their What If?s. They change how people think and act and how magic works, and force things to happen simply because they happened in the story proper, like here with Harry's losing an ear.

    I do feel that Voldemort sparing Draco is a bit of a stretch. I can’t imagine him doing that for real. Surely he would gladly take the info, thank him then kill him anyway just for double protection. Twin core gone and elder wand in possession. I can’t see why he would let the elder wand master live.

Sure, young Voldo tells Harry in the chamber of secrets that it wouldn't, because he's not Slytherin's aire, but technically neither is he. I disagree with a few things.
    Starting with the idea that Draco is evil.
    Draco’s wand core is unicorn hair, meaning he was always destined to resist the darkness.
    Evil wizards don’t have unicorn wand cores.
    Even if he killed Dumbledore (to save his family, not to serve Voldemort), I don’t think Draco would wholeheartedly embrace Voldemort’s cause, just be more convincing in his pretense.
    He knew that was Harry, and his apparent wishywashiness was to intentionally delay.
    Draco wanted Voldemort to lose.
    Later, Draco raises Scorpio without pure blood supremacy.
    Not only does the unicorn wand core indicate resistance to corruption to the darkness, it also makes the most loyal wand, it can stay loyal even thru being stolen.
    Unicorn wands only change loyalty when the owner wants it to change loyalty.
    Draco’s wand became Harry’s wand not just because Harry stole it, but PRIMARILY because Draco wants Harry to escape, Draco wants Harry to beat Voldemort, and with Draco’s unicorn wand changing, so too the Elder Wand becomes Harry’s.
    The number 1 thing to consider is the 1st thing Draco ever did to Harry… offer friendship.
    Sure, it was twisted by his father’s ideology, but it was still genuine.
    I just don’t see Draco trying to kill Harry, especially after Voldemort is dead.
    The biggest complication is Voldemort would correctly assume Draco is the master of the Elder Wand.
    So Draco does need to give Harry’s broken wand to Voldemort…
    …but Harry also still needs to get Draco’s wand.
    Let’s just say Draco pockets Harry’s broken wand.
    After all, Harry steals Draco’s wand from Draco’s hand, not from his pocket.
    This is about to get very convoluted very fast.
    Draco gives Harry’s broken wand to Voldy, so if Voldy uses ANY other wand, it should work because neither of the 2 Fawkes feather core brother wands are involved.
    if Voldy used his own wand, it still won’t work because one of the Fawkes wands is involved.
    But let’s be real, Voldy won’t choose any wand, he’s a little scaredy cat who wants to be extra extra certain, so he wants the Elder Wand.
    Of course when he learns Dumbledore had it, he’ll kill Draco to get the Elder Wand’s allegiance, except it will already be Harry’s by that point.
    Is there a way Voldy does NOT kill Draco?
    Yes… if and only if… an expert in wand lore (like Gregorovitch) told Voldy a wand can be won by disarming without killing (although perhaps Voldy can arrive to that conclusion on his own when he realizes Gregorovitch WAS the master of the Elder Wand, but is not now because Grindelwald STOLE the Elder Wand, becoming the master of the Elder Wand without killing the previous master… also Voldy might put the logic together that Dumbledore became the master of the Elder Wand by beating Grindelwald without killing him), then maybe Voldy surprise disarms Draco of his mother’s wand (but we also have to rely on Draco not telling Voldy that Harry stole his wand, & that the wand Draco is currently holding is his mother’s…Voldy must believe he disarmed Draco of Draco’s wand) without killing him…
    …that is Draco’s only hope of survival.
    Also, the spell Snape aimed at a Death Eater’s wand hand… missed…meaning it did not hit the Death Eater.
    So even if Snape is aiming at a different Death Eater…
    Lupin survives that night as usual.

    One issue that I can see: wouldn’t Voldemort know what the Elder Wand looked like?
    Voldemort has seen Dumbledore’s wand on numerous occasions, most recently during their epic duel at the Ministry of Magic. And Voldemort strikes me as the type to know everything he possibly could about historic magical artifacts. He also presumably knows what Draco’s wand looks like if Voldemort had ordered Draco to torture with it.
    It would not be difficult for him to realize the wand is not the Elder Wand, especially since Draco is suddenly using a new wand that looks suspiciously like Dumbledore’s.

    Ok hear me out
    Bellatrix would never EVER have let Draco killing Voldemort slide. If she were in the crowd during that final duel, she would have attacked Draco the moment he began to explain himself. Voldemort was the most important thing to her and she would not have hesitated to murder Draco after she found out he orchestrated Voldemort’s demise. I’m not sure she would have actually managed to kill him but she’s an excellent duelist and she certainly would have tried.

      While Bellatrix might be an excellent duelist, I don't think she survived the battle with Molly Weasley
