Pretty impressive! The day I realized it was possible through proper training to stay horizontal in the water even for a natural sinker like me, it is when I started moving much faster in the water with much less effort. For the newbies listen to what the coach is saying as it will make your life much easier. There is always a hard way and an easy way to learn something. To learn how to float and be comfortable in the water before trying to move fast forward is by far the easiest way. Thank you for producing that video! It looks so easy when you are the one doing it.

Your “humming“ technique is definitely interesting. For beginning swimmers, do you usually recommend that technique versus just exhaling the air right out of my nose? It definitely does seem like if I use the humming technique, then I am not exhaling so much of my air so fast.

Apparently *most* people can't teach to save their lives. NOT You!
This is the first time I'm seeing someone break down Floating on the Back in such simple steps.
I'm going to try this today at the pool.
Can you believe I "learned" swimming in 1977 when I was 10, and have *never* learned how to *really* float on my back?
Everyone I would ask would try to tell me something or physically try to correct my body, but I never got the hang of it.
(Yes, this also means that I suck as a swimming/floating student, but that's besides the point.)
I'm a coach (technology/product) and I have come to realize that the vast majority of people can't (and/or won't) teach - even if they are experts at something.
[ To teach/coach, you have to have passion to share what you know,
the analytical ability to break it down into simple, progressive, steps; and
finally, the persistence and patience to keep working with the student (in a feedback loop), until they get it - i.e. the knowledge transfer is complete. ]
    * But you sir, have earned my respect today! Thank you!

The humming offers big insight.. I've been learning to swim for 1.5 years and even though I've made very slow progress (not the best instruction plus limiting fear of water, though it never stopped me from getting in and trying) I still feel I get tired too easy and that I have to do quite a strong effort to exhale through the nose when in the water. Always wondered if that was normal but it's difficult to translate the feeling to other people, maybe that's just what people do right? I'll compare it to the feeling of exhaling through the nose while humming and see how they compare next time I'm in the pool.
