You don't need to smell thought to taste the difference between each of the drinks. Even if the drinks where warms they are pretty notable tastes. Also some of those drinks aren't carbonated and he confused them for carbonated drinks.

In school at the age of 10 we were taught that smell is more important than tongue for tasting stuff. We got to eat and drink lots of stuff with our nose blocked as a test. That’s why you loose your sense of taste when you have a cold because your nose is clogged up and you can taste. This also works with cutting onions. People cover their eyes when actually it’s your nose that inhales the chemicals. Blocking your nose when cutting onions is really helpful.
Well smell contributes a lot more to taste than you would think. This is why we often associate bad smell to bad taste even if it doesn't necessarily correlate to each other.
My grandma lost her sense of smell when she was very young (doctors say she must have just had a really really big sneeze), and she can 100% tell drinks apart.

To a degree. The issue is that cutting onions releases sulfur gas. Which reacts with the water in you eyes and nasal cavities to make sulfuric acid.
