- A Burnout 3 demo crash compilation. Released during its "Crash and Burn" era, the April 2004 demo features cut impact time sounds as well as different crash physics/damage modeling and an old version of the HUD. A more self-aware version of the game we later got.

The Impact Time sound at 3:32 is surely the eeriest of them all, with the heart beat monitor beeping and suddenly indicating that the driver's heart stopped.

intresting... it seems like they wanted to make it seem much more serious.. just this simple touch, the missing music, the screams, sound design is so important dude
It's a huge shame they scrapped/toned down this idea imo - it's not intrusive to the rest of the game whatsoever, it keeps the same early 2000s emo skater boy vibes, but it has SO much more depth to the sound design and lore - it's a hell of a lot more interesting this way, even with just these subtle changes
I see the screaming in this build of the game was a little more frequent, especially because it wasn't restricted to impact time.

For those who didn’t know, the Og xbox version of the game still has a lot of this sounds while doing aftertouch, so it actually did release just not in the ps2 version.
even in the ps2 version you can find stuff like the screaming

Cool theory,the heartbeat senor makes sense coz you play as a different human in each crash mode and the driver served his purpose for DJ stryker (a DJ with a terrorist broadcast who brainwashes his viewers into doing these things) by creating a huge vehicular manslaughter carnage and you die

It is scary the fact that in this version they have added screams and also that they are frequent, also the fact that when you crash. The driver's horn can be heard, implying that he died from the accident. And also, that sometimes you can hear sirens of ambulances and police, because they are arriving at the scene of the accident.
It's not scary. It's realistic
all those can still be heard in the actual version just in impact time and nah not too scary for a title meant for you to wild racing

thank god they removed those sounds so we didn't have to hear them in our childhood
I honestly prefer the darker undertones of the early builds, but I can understand why some would rather not have them

@@FordyFwee43 Yeah it's crazy to think that years have passed since I made this, I vividly remember making it and being really wrapped up.. almost obsessed with these early versions of the game - I still take huge inspiration from them these days. I'm pretty happy with how popular this video has proven to be also, it's good to know the community seems to enjoy it

These dramatic horror songs are very inspired by Thrill Drive 1 and 2 sound effect when you crash the car.

@@thisemptyworm4677 without having been aware of the horror of BURNOUT 3's beta, my game ROADHUNT takes big value on the horrors of brutal racing, while not being depressing at first glance, my game will be pretty horrible once you take time to think about it. and it will be hinted at through several aspects of the game that im not willing to disclose yet. The game is still in development but its already gotten a playable pre beta that lacks a lot of the final features, but includes two early-stage offroad racetracks, many car types and Racing NPCs that adapt to the circumstances of their car and the events of a race.
the details of the psychological horror are not fully implemented yet, but will be soon, the slight hint at this is done through the main menu right now though.. (when you compare the first one to the 2nd, ingame one.. you compare the view of someone witnessing the races from outside, and from inside..)
(as its my first game ever, its a ROBLOX Game, I'll remake it outside of ROBLOX once I have the money from my career.)

If Criterion ever decides to reboot Burnout I would be very interested in seeing them take inspiration from this beta version of B3 and even the arcade series that inspired Burnout in the first place- Thrill Drive. Like create it under independent conditions- as if they weren't working for EA and had more creative freedom to be more true to *their* vision and not EA's vision. Because I honestly feel like their destructive talents are being restricted with the NFS series.
Still love the final release though. Heck they can still keep the awesome music and vibrant presentation but save all the horror stuff once you crash. Like a way of the game saying "Yeah dude driving fast is all fun and games until-... 💥😱🚨💀" That'll shake up the player for sure and maybe even make them a safer driver in the real world.

Well, now the likelihood of that ever happening is basically slim to nil, as they're on the Battlefield development lineup with Ghost.
I think is the two times that only agreed EA to put a stop into that type of creativity.
A Thrill Drive type Burnout and a post apocaliptic NFS Game would be the a nightmare fuel and a complete closure for both series.
I like how much more of car damage there is, like look at 0:49, the rear end is completely smushed in.
Yep, now imagine that happening in real life.
Fuel tank ruptured, covering areas with gas, one spark and everything is up in flames.
Cars burning, people burning alive, stuck in their cars, no help at all.
That's a message to people who like to speed, the dangers.
So I guess this is another example of burnout toning down the damage models, really wish they deformed like this in the main release cause it clearly wasn’t a hardware limitation like it was with paradise.
There's so much removed stuff that makes no sense in these games - unless it's some game dev stuff I don't understand they always seem to remove these really specific features for no reason in Burnout games..
@@tammy4224 Demos are always curated slices of the game. The way the demo is set up is to paint the game in the best possible light, so it's still entirely possible the physics and damage model were causing performance issues. They also may have not been happy with the modeling (some of the side impact deformation looks like putty, for example, but I've never seen an irl car crash that bad so I don't know if that's how it actually looks) but didn't have time to make all the changes they wanted so they just toned it back.

@@BinaryHedgehog1 good point, cause the frame rate already had to be cut in half during crashes, and especially with the crash junctions it could have been too much for the hardware

I wish burnout 3 would be like how it was in the beta, because this more notable influence of Thrill Drive, with the screams, the very destructive accidents, the sirens and the longer car crash cutscene really makes this game dark as hell in an very good way 😰

I think the devs is jus listening "You Can't Quit Me Baby" by Queens Of The Stone Age cause in the lyrics you find "See you in hell".
It's very sad that civillian just drive normal until he/she screams before you crushed them and they slowly passed away but for me is kind of, disturbing or sad, there family members can't afford to buy a coffin or a hospital to stayed there parents alive, I Guess They Pain Or Screamed before there deaths. R.i.p Civillian.

I think what makes this more eerie is that here you are just some racer in the real world, not in some twisted gameshow with supernatural powers and the show is run by basically Satan.

Old hud looks so much better than the retail. Pretty sure they got rid of it since they didn't add a manual transmission mode.
Imo they really did a good job for aftertouch camera in beta. Unfortunately, we got the worse version when its released.
Isn't when the horns honking doesn't that mean the person in the vehicle is dead? I know sometimes horns go off because of the air bags or sometimes wiring and stuff but idk I felt as if in Burnout 3 it was due to death or something
Yeah, as if your driver died and slumped forward onto the steering wheel.. creepy and I don't recall that being in the final game

I remember as a kid I would alternate between Impact Time being on and off because I liked the haunting music but also enjoyed suddenly being jolted back into the sounds of the carnage going on (cars skidding, scratching and of course the horn).

@@tammy4224Everything here is in the final game. BUT the screams toned down and only play when in impact time for a while(and they are usually mistaken for tire screeching)
The horn honks are not toned down though. They only play in crash mode.

I've been saying this since Beam came out - there ARE actually some really old crash junction scenarios in Beam, however I'm unsure if they still work - I'd have to look for them
Yeah crash mode would be sick but even just races but I really enjoy the sandbox aspect freedom with a good game engine was something my brain wanted and got with gmod and beamng as a teen when I finally got a laptop

I've had an idea similar to this for years, but with the horror taken way further - blisteringly fast and aggressive gameplay with a pitch black story told through subtleties and small details, highlighting the real human cost street racing accidents carry with them and how insane the drivers of these events would have to be. Especially crash mode - if you think about it, you're essentially playing as a suicide bomber in crash mode. Trouble is, game dev is a huge and steep learning curve - and even when you know what you're doing it takes time. If you do take a shot at it please update me, I'm very interested.

It's exploded in popularity recently for some reason - whether it's the Burnout community taking notice, TH-cam algorithm or both.. I'm happy it has though cuz it's one of my favourites I've uploaded, these early versions of the game deserve to be more well known

I made this years ago so I'm working off memory here, but I recall this being a pre release demo disk with one track/car available that someone had publicly uploaded - think it was on the Burnout discord server
@@tammy4224 yeah, well sorry for my vague reference there (lol) but it reminded me of a burnout 3: "crash + burn" trailer, it was a demo version that depicted a much darker version of the game, with realistic crashes, screaming sounds n creepy stuff like that
@@machinehl Yeah I'm aware of that version an I LOVE the idea of a darker Burnout style game, it's a huge inspiration. I'd kill for someone to find it and make it public - sadly this demo looks like the closest we have for now
