Fun fact: In the original story, you weren’t the only one who went with Mickey on the journey that takes place during the game. They were actually other people there before the main protagonist took over. Mickey would then get them lost at sea on purpose to wait for the perfect time to then kill the crew members. If anyone got out alive, it would be unknown weather or not they got back to land alive, due to the fact of their starvation.
