My wife has the exact make model and problem, so this video was super helpful. THANKS for being so detailed in explaining how everything functions and is diagnosed. Too many videos only explain how to change something but Skip the diagnosis. 👍👍👍👍

What if the blower doesn’t work at any speed? Same solution? Great video by the way! Thanks.

Good video, as usual. This is a known problem especially with VALEO blowers.Snow gets into the bottom portion of the assembly and melts, water collects around the lower bearing of the motor and freezes at night. Resistor pack survives the start. It's a small thermoresistor (the blue-green on your video) under $2 which blows, Much cheaper repair for DIY if you have a high temperature solder. Prevention: drill 1mm hole at the bottom of the blower. All condensate will drain. You can also spray WD40 into the hole once in a while to lubricate the bottom bearing,

Hello, your video is excellent thank-you for doing this. I do have a question that goes beyond the scope however. We have had this exact problem in my 2010 Tiguan since late 2018 once I purchased it; we did replace the blower motor resistor three times because it would stop very soon after replacement and didn’t work on any setting. The last (third time) it was replaced, it did not stop entirely, but would blow on setting 4 as your video describes. We have been limping along this way for a long while. However, suddenly, now, when the fan is turned on 4, within 1 minute it slows gradually then stops altogether. What might you suggest may be the problem in this case? Is it something beyond the blower motor resistor or fuse, since it’s now failed three times being replaced in a row and now it hardly works at all - or is it something beyond the resistor and or fuse? It’s running now about 1 minute on 4, then gradually slows and stops, and there is a sound that occurs once it starts slowing down. Thank-you kindly for your video and any advice you may have for us as we are cash strapped and would like to know what to expect for repair costs… we have other things that need to be repaired on this vehicle as well (hood release cable) and my husband is about to go in for total knee replacement. We can only afford to run one vehicle and the other one (Benz 350 GLK) is out of commission even if we needed to use it. Hopefully the Canadian winter leaves us soon, in the meantime… thanks again for any feedback you may be able to offer in this case! 🙏🏻😞👋🇨🇦

Tanis Gentle My Pleasure! since the resistor was replaced three times your problem might be a shorted blower motor or you may have a loose connection in the wiring! check your connections for corrosion and looseness!

@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair thanks very much. Can you tell me please if there is a way my husband can find out if the blower motor is shorted, and where it is located, or if it is one of the wires? It isn’t not working at all though, it is now running on 4 - but it only runs for a minute then stops; after it’s rested for half an hour then it will start again and do the same thing… 🤷‍♀️ Thank-you again! ☺️

My 2012 Tiguan has this problem. I replaced the resistor but I get a strong buring smell from the resistor. So I replaced the blower and put another new resistor, still get a strong burning smell from the resistor. It's overheating, but I don't know why.
