@@janetholley1004 enjoy! I hope your family loves them. It is based on a photo of a real sheep called Nuname who is greatly loved by her owner living in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
I loved this chubby sheep so much I painted it and it's hanging on my kitchen wall. The salt effect turned out really well. Thanks for a great tutorial.
I’ve been folding watercolour paper after my painting is finished and making a card out of that… Now I realize it’s such a waste. Thank you for the tips and of course the lovely paintings. I will be doing this for sure so much more fun than trees.
Yes, it’s so much easier and cheaper to buy some ready made cards and envelopes and glue the painting on. I will be uploading some more card ideas soon. Thanks for commenting and supporting my channel. It means a lot. 🥰
This was the best in-depth watercolor tutorial I have seen having nothing to do with the subject matter pr it's intended purpose. Learned so much. Thank you.
Very informative. Thank you. I’ve never been lucky in getting my salt to act right. Telling sheen from shine is not easy, but I will keep on practicing. Thank you x
Thankfully your video appeared on my feed 😀. Absolutely love your method of teaching - so understandable, all the smallest details, water control, mixing colors, etc. Fairly new to WC here, but ‘think’ I can do the sheep. Thank you for sharing your talents.
So glad to have had your tutorial come in my feed. Enjoyed your way of teaching. My favourite place for references was nice to see you use in your paintings. ❤🇨🇦
The people in your life are very lucky! I’d love to receive one of these as a Christmas card. I’m just getting into watercolor - thanks for such a detailed video!
Thank you so much for doing this tutorial. I learned quite a bit, perhaps you can do a Galloway cows sometimes I need to do one for my grandson. I do a little bit of watercolor, thank you very much.
Thank you for such lovely freebies. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching all the videos, alas have not had time to do any crafting as my son and husband have been quite ill, and now I have Shingles!! So roll on January, hopefully will do my Christmas crafting then! 😉
Thank you for watching. It's been a very popular video which is enormously gratifying for me. Sometimes, as a viewer, it's just comforting to watch something when you're ill and lacking energy. In the spring you could turn it into an Easter card or just a fun little painting.
These are lovely!! I have absolutely no confidence in my sketching abilities. Would you have downloadable drawings of these fabulous sheep to share? I would be happy to purchase😊
Yes, if you go to my Etsy shop watercolourswithcaz.etsy.com you can purchase a pdf download with line drawings, colour pictures, and written instructions. Thank you for watching my channel.
I always use the same tape, because the price of a roll professional tape, 🤦🏼♀️ here in Europe over the 15 euro ! And then people find it strange that artwork is expensive, loved the video ❤️ and your aquarel technique 👌✨
Yes, I go through so much tape when teaching, and I buy it for my students, so dollar store it is and most of the time it works just great. Thank you for your kind compliments.
Hi Kaarin, I have only ever used iodized table salt so I’m not sure if coarse salt would work as well. I like the tiny stars or snowflakes that fine salt makes and I buy it at the dollar store, so not expensive at all.
Thank you! That was a fun afternoon even though my sheep look like a cross between a bull and a dog haha! I’m not sure why my salt never turns out but I’ll keep practicing.
I use a long metal ruler and I hold it firmly while I pull the paper towards me against the ruler. I don't fold or wet the paper, just tear it dry. Maybe I'll film a video of it soon.
You need to search for the group called Free Reference Photos for Artists on Facebook, and request to join the group. You can’t search or find anything in the group until you join and they accept you. Everyone is accepted but you have to answer some questions to prove that you’re not a bot. There are other groups with similar names so you have to type in the exact words that I have here.
Two different ways. Most often I tear it against a metal ruler, but for cards I use my Tim Holtz deckle cutter made by Tonic. If you watch my video “Update More Snowy Sheep” I demonstrate both methods.
I have been working on watercolor for a couple of months now. Watched lots of videos, but this class/video was awesome. I learned more in one class than any other. Thanks a lot! Do you have a website to do other classes with you?
Thank you. If you subscribe to my channel you will find all my teaching videos there, all in real time. I have a Watercolours With Caroline page on Facebook and I teach vis Zoom.
Hello Caroline, I just found your channel today. You are a wonderful teacher. Been binge watching your postings. How would I go about joining your group to get emails with traceable? Thank you
Thanks Karen. I have a Facebook page called Watercolours With Caroline and you can send me a private message from there. I don’t make my email public, but I will respond to any messages. I hold Zoom classes every Thursday or you could pay to get all the handouts and traceables.
I have opened an Etsy shop to make my painting notes available. Over the next few days I will be uploading downloadable pdf’s of all my notes to go with all the videos. watercolourswithcaz.etsy.com
The one that I’m using in the video is just a cheap plastic one, but it’s my favourite of all my many palettes. I keep two on my work desk, one for warm colours and the other for cool colours. Hello Caroline, it’s me again. Trying to find the deckled edge tearing ruler is like looking for a needle in a haystack. So sorry to bother you again. Could you please tell me where you bought your magical wand, THE RULER Thank you, Carmela, a watercolorist in Huntington Beach, California PS I looked on line but it’s hard to know which one is like yours. The funny thing is I wasn’t even going to send any cards this year, until I saw your video I just have to try that tool. Your cards are so BEAUTIFUL!!! Thanks again.
Hi Again, it's not a special ruler, just a metal ruler that you can buy in stationary stores, dollar stores, hardware and art stores. They only cost a few dollars and usually have cork on the back. My art store had an 18" one which is very handy, but dollar stores sell the 12".
Hi Caroline. I’m just beginning to learn watercolour techniques and I’ve found your way of teaching extremely informative. I was wondering what the brushes are you’re using? What make are they as they look lovely and pointed.😊
Hi, thank you for watching my channel and your compliment. I use Silver Black Velvet brushes. They are my favourite and I’ve been using them for twenty-five years. You can get them from good art stores, on Amazon, and Michaels has been selling sets too.
I don't have an expensive camera so it can be a bit of a challenge at times. If my channel continues to grow I will invest in better equipment. Always great to have feedback, thank you.
Hi Pat, It can be a bit tricky finding a pdf purchase on Etsy. You need to go to the Etsy app or page, make sure you are logged in to your account, and then go to the “purchases” page. It should show up there and then you click it to download. I will check back later to see if you found it. Thanks for purchasing.
You could also log into your Etsy account and go to the help section. Click on How to download a digital item and it walks you through the steps. First thing to do is go to your Purchases and Reviews page. Depending on where you download it to, and on what sort of device, you might have to open it with Adobe reader, or on a Mac, in Preview. Most devices can handle a pdf just fine.
I disagree. It was the Shepard watching over their sheep that the angels appeared to announce the birth of Jesus. Jesus is “the Lamb of God” who was sacrificed at the cross for our sins.
Thanks for the glue and tape instructions as well as the painting!

If you include larger bits of salt, will your snowflakes be larger and this giving the illusion of some snow being closer?
I’m not really sure, I only use ordinary table salt. If you put more on when the paint’s wetter you get more of a snow storm.
Would you get the same look with Iodized Salt? I have Natural coarse sea salt and Maldon finishing salt. any recomendations?
Hi Kaarin, I have only ever used iodized table salt so I’m not sure if coarse salt would work as well. I like the tiny stars or snowflakes that fine salt makes and I buy it at the dollar store, so not expensive at all.

Please tell us how do you deckle the edges of your watercolor paper??
