One of my best friends is Pakistani American (and Canadian). He's a huge sci-fi and fantasy geek and comics fan as well. He's got a little sister who's never been into any of the same stuff. When we watched the gameplay for the Avengers game with Kamala as the main character, my friend's sister's eyes just lit up like the 4th of July. I've never seen a kid devour comics as fast as she did after that day; everything from her brother's Wolverine stuff to the Gotham Central omnibus and Green Lanterns books with Simon Baz that she borrowed from me. I know there are a lot of people out there who are opposed to diversity in comics because they believe it's disingenuous or whatever, and there's probably nothing I could say that would change their minds. But I can say that in this one specific instance, having a Muslim heroine made all the difference. And as a Chinese person, I'd love to see Ryan Choi, Kong Kenan, and some others get some love as well, but in the meantime I'm happy with the direction we're headed in.
As a British Pakistani, thanks for this great comment. Also I think Shang Chi will cater to the Chinese representation too. It's so important for representation to be more than cliche stereotypes like taxi drivers or noodle chefs for brown/oriental asians.

Bollywood is an Indian entity making movies for Indians (with some other South Asians), the Chinese film industry is a Chinese entity making movies for Chinese (with some other East and South East Asians), and Nollywood is a Nigerian entity making movies for Nigerians (with some West and North Africans). And Hollywood? Hollywood is an international entity making movies for an international audience, that happens to have started in the US. So assuming that people care about representation, which clearly a lot people do even if you don't, the only viable approach from both a business and logical perspective is to "pander", as you put it so distastefully.

I like her, her character development was great but I disappointed at the fact that she’s not in the same universe as Miles Morales from Sony’s animated movie.

The thing is they gave them their own storylines apart from other characters (in miles case a completely different reality). For one thing Riri never refered to herself as Iron Man and Tony was just in a temporary coma as implied and hinted several times in the comics. I honestly feel bad for her having to carry Miss Marvel instead of having her own hero name as well as having the Carol Danvers as a mentor because Carol is the worst.

I know people really dislike the new Ms Marvel tv series, but I actually really enjoy the youth-becoming-super-heros kind of stories. Especially if they are in a shared world with really big super heros

I am glad that marvel is giving its younger super heroes a time too shine. It will be great to see comics about Kamala Khann ' Myles Morales Sam Guthrie ,Valaria Richards, and Franklin Richards would be great.
Kamala has become one of my favorite Marvel heroes over the years. She embodies a lot of the traits that I love about Spider-Man while still managing to be her own character. I'm glad that her character is starting to break into the mainstream with the Avengers game and upcoming show.

Robin is a good example, because many people have become Robin throughout DC history. The original poster wasn't saying he disagreed that Kamala was legacy character, (because she is, she's the new Ms. Marvel), but that people complaining that Kamala is using a pre-existing mantle instead of a new unique one don't understand the concept of what a legacy character is.

Definitely one of the characters that got be back to reading Marvel heroes. Though I'm not even on them over complicating her powers with the time travel nonsense. Plenty of size/shape shifters in Marvel don't need that extra baggage. Also it implies she would suddenly get small for no reason in the future.

Her powers remind me of Mr.fantasic had he tryed to sue her or talk like an old man saying "in my day we got are powers from space rays not some gas." Also her mass timeline thing does this mean her other selves loss mass ill have to watch that part again because am just picturing one of her others is like at school doing a test and than her hands grows so she all "ah man one of my alternate sevles is probably fighting again" or like they loose mass so they get chibi.
the in-comic explanation is that she can, but when she is transformed she cant heal herself (she has a weaker wolverine-style healing factor) and simply chooses not to. she basically wants to be her own hero. but, she also DOES transform to fool her enemies, changing into sofas and stuff (yes, that actually happens).

@@anthonylima4452 well, she is a relatively new hero, so there is not that much content with her compared to other heroes. having said that, i definitely recommend her first appearance in "Ms Marvel" (2014). i cant say i like how it ends (kinda sudden with the multiverse dying as comicstorian explained in this video) but it is only a 19 - issues story, so it wont take up much of your time and is a fun read. i only peeked in the follow up series Ms Marvel (2016), but that was to mainstream for my taste, so i cant really recommend it.
I wish they'd given her a new name rather than taking the name of a prior hero, even with that hero slightly altering her own name. Khan's first comic was kinda a mess. Her first issue was just her disobeying her parents and getting powers.
May I ask the experts what/or rather how different are her powers to Reed Richards, Mister Fantastic. grew up with all the Marvel cartoons of the 90s that’s about all I know, just a casual Marvel fan. her power set seems very similar and duplicated and nothing really new..? Also it seems the new Captain Marvel 2 will have 3 Marvels? But their origins and how they got their powers seems very different ? How then do they really tie in as a set of three related entities puzzles me, except one is a fan girl and they all have Marvels in their name 😅

Since you're the comic book expert that I listen to how do you feel about Crystal being one of the DLC characters for Marvel's Avengers. I think Marvel's Avengers partly did inhumans so people would be excited for them when they entered the MCU. I think because Krystal's both part of the Royal Family and has been an Avenger. She would make a great way to bring those two forces together or against each other.
In marvel ultimate alliance 3 Crystal did Show up with a bunch of Avengers heros saying she was part of the Avengers at the time.And are you saying they actually confirm Crystal game as DLC?

Visually they're similar, but are also very different. Kamala can completely shapeshift her appearance like a skrull or Mystique and has a powerful healing factor. Also her stretchy powers work by sharing mass across her personal timeline, unlike Reed who is powered by cosmic energy

Definitely one of the characters that got be back to reading Marvel heroes. Though I'm not even on them over complicating her powers with the time travel nonsense. Plenty of size/shape shifters in Marvel don't need that extra baggage. Also it implies she would suddenly get small for no reason in the future.

Can someone explain the difference in powers between Kamala Khan and Mr Fantastic? Because to me they seem the same, as well there are no videos or articles explaining the distinction between the to characters
Kamala is a shapeshifter who can actually turn into other people. Mr. Fantastic can do no such thing.
Elasticity or big body parts, is a lame super power. But it works for her because the character is so likable. I can look past it.
She can do far more than that. That's simply what she defaults to

Her powers remind me of Mr.fantasic had he tryed to sue her or talk like an old man saying "in my day we got are powers from space rays not some gas." Also her mass timeline thing does this mean her other selves loss mass ill have to watch that part again because am just picturing one of her others is like at school doing a test and than her hands grows so she all "ah man one of my alternate sevles is probably fighting again" or like they loose mass so they get chibi.

the in-comic explanation is that she can, but when she is transformed she cant heal herself (she has a weaker wolverine-style healing factor) and simply chooses not to. she basically wants to be her own hero. but, she also DOES transform to fool her enemies, changing into sofas and stuff (yes, that actually happens).

@@anthonylima4452 well, she is a relatively new hero, so there is not that much content with her compared to other heroes. having said that, i definitely recommend her first appearance in "Ms Marvel" (2014). i cant say i like how it ends (kinda sudden with the multiverse dying as comicstorian explained in this video) but it is only a 19 - issues story, so it wont take up much of your time and is a fun read.
i only peeked in the follow up series Ms Marvel (2016), but that was to mainstream for my taste, so i cant really recommend it.

I wish they'd given her a new name rather than taking the name of a prior hero, even with that hero slightly altering her own name. Khan's first comic was kinda a mess. Her first issue was just her disobeying her parents and getting powers.

May I ask the experts what/or rather how different are her powers to Reed Richards, Mister Fantastic. grew up with all the Marvel cartoons of the 90s that’s about all I know, just a casual Marvel fan. her power set seems very similar and duplicated and nothing really new..? Also it seems the new Captain Marvel 2 will have 3 Marvels? But their origins and how they got their powers seems very different ? How then do they really tie in as a set of three related entities puzzles me, except one is a fan girl and they all have Marvels in their name 😅

Since you're the comic book expert that I listen to how do you feel about Crystal being one of the DLC characters for Marvel's Avengers. I think Marvel's Avengers partly did inhumans so people would be excited for them when they entered the MCU. I think because Krystal's both part of the Royal Family and has been an Avenger. She would make a great way to bring those two forces together or against each other.
In marvel ultimate alliance 3 Crystal did Show up with a bunch of Avengers heros saying she was part of the Avengers at the time.And are you saying they actually confirm Crystal game as DLC?
@@jamiemartin1434 I'm not saying that Square Enix or Crystal Dynamics have confirmed it. Asking people's thoughts on it. Because they have said that they are interested in bringing characters that most people wouldn't think of to Marvel's Avengers. And Crystal is one of the characters that comes to mind. I know everybody wants black panther or Captain Marvel or even Spider-Man. But I'm just curious to what people think about less popular characters being brought into the game

So I'm just starting to theorize what could those characters be and how they could further the plot. I was just wondering opinion of someone who knows more than me about comics.

@@jamiemartin1434 thanks that sounds really interesting. I wonder how a character like Quicksilver would play. I really don't think that they'd use an X-Men are Fantastic Four in the hopefully first set of DLC because everyone would be playing as them. But then again they did show up in the MCU

Visually they're similar, but are also very different. Kamala can completely shapeshift her appearance like a skrull or Mystique and has a powerful healing factor. Also her stretchy powers work by sharing mass across her personal timeline, unlike Reed who is powered by cosmic energy
