    Thanks Dennis I have it's little brother the BG13 wouldn't part with it for the world , for some reason it's a lucky reel if there's a big fish about somehow the rod with it on always seems to be the one that they hit lol.Best fish on it a 22lb carp.

      The BG is one of my favorites and a lot of other folks like them as their go to reel as well. They were totally over engineered and are built to last. and last and catch big fish too! Thank you - Dennis

    How strong is BG90? Is it better than Penn 704?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The BG90 is very strong and compares well with the Penn Spinfisher 7500. It is one of my favorite reels. If there is a downside, the reel seems to develop a noticeable wobble on the top end over time. I am not sure if it is wear related, or tif the rotor or bail fall out of balance, but it's happened to more of my customer's reels than I care to mention. Thanks for asking - Dennis

    Another great video with crisp instructions. I have an older GS90, are the parts interchangeable with the BG90? (mainly drive gear and pinion) Thx.

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think they are interchangeable. There are differences in the cases and size of the reel. Dennis

    I removed my setscrew and still the spool shaft does not want to come out do you have any advice ,seems to be seized inside

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - it is either frozen grease or a bent shaft. Soak the crosswind block and the axle shaft where the axle connects to it and the pinion gear at the top of the rotor to try and free up and hard grease. Reattach the spool to the axle shaft if you removed it and use the spool and a handle to twist left/right and pull up to free it from the crosswind block - Dennis

    Just going to take a wild guess here and figure those are aluminum body reels or are they the other stuff and I have a Daiwa 2600c would i gain much of anything as far as stronger drag by going to carbon fiber washers at this time its still got the Teflon drags likewise to my 4000c?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those are metal bodies on the early BG series. If you have the 2600C, which is about 30+ years old, it is time to upgrade the drag washers. It won't give you any more max drag, but it will ensure that the max drag in the reel is fully utilized by preventing slip. I would go ahead and do it if you are having problems with your drags. If the originals are still Ok and your question is a curiosity, then you do not need to change them out for the sake of change. As long as the washers are clean and performing, they will be OK

    • @outdoorsman9380
      @outdoorsman9380 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2ndChanceTackle ok thanks for helping me out on that. My drags are in good shape foe there age I was just really curious if there was more to gain by switching to carbon fiber drags I guess since there's no reason to upgrade then I'll just keep running these things until the drags finally do wear out since I always maintain my reels and keep them in top shape they'll probably last me a lifetime

    Hi Dennis,
    I purchased similar reel on ebay sold as is, the reel looks good with no wear and tear however seller stated it is locked up and handle not spinning at all.
    I am living outside of the US and there is a shipping company combining my purchases before ship it to me.
    I am hoping that it is ball bearing failure. From your experience is Daiwa used stainless steel bearing at the time. What looking up an why spinning reel won't turn?
    Thanks

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think it is a bearing failure. My bet would is a broken part like a crosswind block or something trapped in the reel like broken line. It is unusual that a bearing would cause this issue - You will need to take the reel apart to determine the cause - Dennis

    Hi i lost my drag knob off of my BG60...will a knob off of a BG90 work

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While I cannot say for certain, I believe the answer is no. Typically the knobs are interchangeable between a 50/60 and the 80/90 sizes as the only difference is spool capacity. I checked the schematics and there are different part numbers for the 60 and 90 drag knobs, so there is a chance that the 90 size knob would be too wide for the 60 size reel. Having said that, If you can get a 90 size knob cheap, it is worth a try. Sorry I cannot be more definitive. I do not have any of those in my shop, so I cannot give it a test to see. - Dennis

    Internally this is absolutely no different than a Daiwa 7000C silver series.is it a metal or graphite case on this reel?They are expensive at least for me. I would not like the wobble. My old Ocean Star No. 36 (Daiwa) at least has a balanced rotor internal counterweight and it is a much older reel! Super video!

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Christopher - You reminded me that I have a 7000C in my to do project bin. I will take it out and try for a video this week. I may try to upgrade these to ceramic bearings if they are available. In the meantime, there are few reels today that will last as long and be as strong as these silver series reels. - Stay tuned for the video - Dennis

    Hello Dennis, Great videos. I see that you never put alot of grease when you service your reels, The little bit of grease you use is enough?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. I notice the number one reel failure is no oil or grease due to evaporation or age. the second most common failure is too much grease! The problem here is that it traps contaminants and impeded reel performance by clogging the gears and bearings when it is deteriorating. So a little of the right gerase and oil goes a long way. If you service your reel annually, then you should not have a problem - Thanks for asking - Dennis
