I too hate it, but I did enjoy the first half of the ep. It also does allow me just to say any appearance of his i like is Fat Tony, and any I dislike are Fit Tony
The fact that Fit Tony looks and acts exactly like Fat Tony, almost like killing him off pointless. The only difference is that Fit Tony is married, and Fat Tony is a widower. But Fat Tony could have gotten remarried offscreen anyways, so it was still pointless.
Fat Tony: Pick a horse, kid. We're putting two dollars on the third race. Make it a good one. Bart: Eat my shorts! Fat Tony: Eat My Shorts? Okay, let's see ... wait a minute, you little punk! Eat My Shorts is in the fifth race! I said the third race!
There was a bit of a delay for this video, as I had gone on family vacation in early August. But then, very mysteriously, I got a pretty bad cold, and then started having problems with both my car and air conditioning unit... I cannot prove it, but I suspect Fat Tony was trying to sabotage the production of the video. Watch this video at your own risk.
In fact, it's even worse than The Principal and the Pauper episode. At least the Skinner we know is still alive. The characters really do feel expendable now.
It's the exact same as the episode where they killed off Snowball II, and then by the end, we end up with a new cat who looks exactly the same and the death is barely acknowledged again.
On the foreshadowing continuity for later down the line stuff, I remember that they did the same with Carl mentioning his Icelandic roots in season 14's "Scuse Me While I Miss the Sky" only to be paid off a whole decade later in Season 24's "The Saga of Carl"
Fat Tony has always been my favourite character in the entire franchise. I love that they take the conventional way Italian mobsters are normally shown, and instead of poking fun at that aspect directly they use that as a basis for jokes and character development, if that makes any sense.
It’s pretty simple. The simpsons writers killed him off and went home for the day. That night, the Status Quo Gremlins that live in the office sneakily wrote in Fit Tony.
@@delgande yeah, but I don't like how he is just supposed to be the same one, even having the same son. As if that episode just isn't cannon which is confusing
I think fit Tony was a missed opportunity. You can still keep the same voice actor, but have him whenever he conducts business have him do it on an ever increasingly complicated exercise machine. Make people dig their own graves doing squats, then when he sees how bad they are cut to him giving a zumba class or something to the same guy. It could be very funny and establish that the character keeps its integrity.
Ned Flanders would be great for Simpsons Histories. At the start of the show he was just Homer's annoying neighbour but he became a crazily religious character to the point where he barely even has other traits now.
I forgot he hasn't been done - he'd be great as he's got quite a rich character history, even from his earliest appearances. Dee-jay luig-jay - I get where you're coming from a bit; in the first couple of seasons he was kinda the "too perfect neighbour" who Homer hated, which had more mileage than they turned him into a "everything's religious" character. However I don't mind the s3-onwards version of Ned either and he still had some great episodes. It wasn't until the tone of the series changed after the Golden Era, which coincided with Ned's wife being killed off, and the character started being used in very different ways, that the character lost his appeal for me.
Ned Flanders has always been religious. In earlier seasons he seemed to be too perfect which of course made Homer feel inferior. In the later seasons we see plenty of flaws in Ned's character. I never would have guessed that Ned had anger issues. Like in Hurricane Neddy he had a big meltdown in front of the whole town. Later we learn why he had that quirky speech because he was surpressing his anger too well. Than in the episode Blackeyed Please Ned actually hits Homer in the face giving him a black eye. I never thought that Ned had a hot temper.
My favorite Fat Tony line is a toss up between "What's a truck?" or "I don't get mad. I get stabby." As for a non-treatening character I'd say cover Rod and/or Todd Flanders next.
Definitely. Why are they seen in Springfield Elementary in a lot of the early seasons, yet by the time Ned marries Edna she is talking about them going to a Christian school at thus being a bit sheltered?

Fat Tony is one of my fav characters on the show, thanks for doing this. As for the next one, while I would be interested in Martin Prince's history, I want to lean towards Ralph, since I always found it interesting that, before season 4, Ralph's whole deal was how he and some other kid would make strangely intellectual observations regarding what's happening to whatever kid is the focus of the story (Lisa, Milhouse, etc).
I think an epsisode on Carl Carlson would be cool. He has another instance of something being mentioned about his character that was explored in a later episode. In one episode in like season 14 he mentions his Icelandic boyhood. It's the episode where lights are turned all the way up and they can't see the night sky anymore. In somewhere around season 24 (I think) they actually go to Iceland and meet Carl's adoptive parents
