The Sims 4 Dream Home Decorator Game Pack Review. Uh Oh.

- The Sims 4 Dream Home Decorator has released as of June 2021. Let's look at its few gameplay features and how they hold up, or if they do. To me, it's a new low for content in a Game Pack. I'll explain why.

I'd like this pack if it had 2-3 more gameplay concepts/items and wasn't bugged. Here's my video about Likes and Dislikes as mentioned in the video: th-cam.com/video/kK5ORf_o1L4/w-d-xo.html
And with that we see the future of a game we all once loved get flushed down the toilet. sigh.
The really sad thing to me is that everyone was super excited and I could see this really work within the established game mechanics:
-give us requirements for the different room types like we have for community lots.
- allow us to learn all the likes and dislikes of all family members.
- make sure that at least one of the requirements is a color or decor style.
You can see they have spent all their development budget in buy mode - 3 new systems with sectional storage and couches and bunk beds - and on the like dislike system, leaving not enough money for gameplay as the often do. This hurts this pack more than most because a lot of this content is at least partially available through the base game. Likes and dislikes are in the basegame and I am pretty sure that they did not look autosofa and sectional storage in the pack because they wanna use it again, making them also available for cc creators to come up with furniture alternatives giving the pack very little value.
I agree, i was hoping that there would be some undiscovered gameplay or quirks that they just didnt show off in the livestream. I'm saddened it's not the case. I agree that at least two more gameplay elements should have been added into this pack to give players a new way to interact without being in the carreer
So wait hold on... and werewolves STILL ain't in?
bruh this is literally my favorite pack in the hole game
“This is a good pack for streamers who build.”, is how I’ve felt about a majority of the Sims 4.
I'm a Builder and trust me it's still crap!
Truer words have never been spoken
Noone wants to watch their videos on TH-cam anymore, as it's too bland for content quality and they are being influenced by EA for good review. Watching streaming Triple A games like Resident Evil Village is much more interesting.
Let’s plays aren’t dead, it’s just nobody wants to see empty gameplay
I mean I like to build but it doesn't offer much on the build mode side that we don't ALREADY have, and I could care less if my sims like the home I gave them or not. Their opinions don't matter in the long run so why should I care for those 5 minutes what they think? lol I redesigned my entire world to reflect different locations and I change them as I please and use MCCC to set their personalities and preferences according to how they live. This pack is a nice feature, but it doesn't add anything.
I was very confused that there were no requirements for the different jobs. When you need to do a bathroom remodel, I would expect some kind of requirement for a toilet and a shower similar how community lots have requierments.
same, we get them for community lots but not here? i guess they wanted us to have more freedom, but..
That's a very good point. Another fail for the Sims 4. Certain required items could have at least helped keep things somewhat within reason.
That was my thought, they already have it built into the game??? I wish I could say I’m surprised at this point
@@nannybells They could even be hidden requirements that are just checked against when they assess how well you did. If you don't meet them you fail your job and get notified why and lose performance and reputation. Meaning there are consequences for a badly done job.
I don't think they would need to be super strict but check for the basics so you cannot completely run amok in the game.
@@SGast sims 4 fails to give this kind of gameplay hence why only CAS and Building seems to keep this game going
My jaw dropped watching this video. I wasn’t expecting it to “save the Sims 4” like some people were claiming but I was expecting it to at least be functional… there are no rules beyond the bare minimum to make it functional, nothing to punish you for failure - I would have expected a checklist of mandatory items for a room like when you actually build a new lot at minimum but that’s not even in here? What’s the point then?
Didn't the similar job in the sims 3 have requirements when you took a job like this in the game?
@@lumistar2767 yes you have to put specific items in, make sure the sims can access each item and the room couldnt be cluttered
deleting all the furniture in the house like he did here would probably result in them telling you to fix it and not paying you
The Sims 4 is not even a game, it’s just a toy. People have had to make their own games with the toy. A broken toy.
@@jordane8526 omg this is the definition.
i rly thought it was gna do that too, similar to tenants. im disappointed,as always.
imo this game pack is VERY realistic. i mean, what this review showcased is just what happens in real life:
EA: places dog poo on sims 4 while taking away meaningful gameplay and destroy the base game with bugs
EA: "check this out!" interaction
sims 4 stans: love it, cry tears of joy, give EA more money for taking away everything
Sad but very true. I’m so sick of being disappointed because it seems like sims 4 has been a journey of continuous let down.
Im surprised by how accurate that actually is
As a former sims 4 stan, I can confirm the accuracy of this statement. EA has totally ruined The Sims 4, I'm just glad I realized what was happening before I threw any more money at them. 😑
100% accurate
Still no money to buy new computers, hating open world.
people saying it's fine because they just want the items, that's exactly what this game is for now lol. i get a feeling these new packs have been catered to people who play on console and can't use cc.
The creator of the Sims wanted to create a tool for architecture but ended up making one of the best games ever, and now EA a company who makes games, well publishes them, turns it now into an architecture tool. I guess it's just a weird evolution.
@@birdgirl8390 It went full circle, lol.
What do you have against console players
@@chrisstandfast6112 Nothing really. Just sad that they get to miss out on all the things us PC players can do: Mods and CCs. They don't know any better. I was intending getting the console version too. That is, until I realized it offered no different gameplay style (like Sims 3 pets, dogs and cats can have jobs and achievements). No new map either.
@@FallenAngelHiroko I don't want mods and cc lol it's gamebreaking I don't even use any of that on pc so screw cc
Moschino and Paranormal both came with active careers and they’re $10 stuff packs! This is super disappointing... Thank you for always giving honest and in depth reviews of gameplay!
Those had more functional items as well where as in this I don't see any other than a tent.
This should have came with a new world full of fixer-upper homes
@@morgandidion7177 I hope they update the pack with more gameplay (like you said a fixer upper world would be awesome) or convert it to a stuff pack and refund players half because I really like a lot of the items but I can't justify throwing $25CAD towards it even on sale with the amount in it currently
this feels like a new My First Pet stuff situation again. at least paranormal had some new gameplay.
I thought "surely this pack will be good as it plays into the games strengths!" Then the thumbnail has "New low?" In it. Of course...
Just play it for yourself. I've heard wonderful things about it
If it weren't just this career, and this career had some idea what a bathroom is.... and let me make a door when adding a room.
@CommodoreLezmo i think its just sad that we have to rely on modders for that and not the actual people ya know, creating the game.
@CommodoreLezmo We don't need new tags. Objects are already categorized by room type in the buy catalog. These tags are not perfect of course but would be better than nothing and would work for most spaces. The game could check if most items used in a room were tagged for the room category, while decorations and lighting could be neutral. We also already have appeal systems in the game and placing negative items like dog poop could be penalized.
You could also use some type of requirement like bathrooms need a toilet shower or tub and a sink like community lots do to give at least a little bit of guidance.
Carl is negative about everything. It’s good clickbait. I wouldn’t listen to him to much.
Oh boy. Unfortunately, this confirmed what I expected and feared from this pack. No real depth in the gameplay. In the end only interesting for builders...
The thing that kind of made me angry is how hard building is being pushed but not saying OK this is a bedroom and it must have a bed. I broke it far too easily and it made me rather blunt with my thumbnail.
Gameplay? This pack adds nothing in terms of gameplay. It just repurposes pre-existing gameplay. It’s a glorified stuff pack. Great for the builders out there, but not worth 20$.
@@CarlsSimGuides It might be good for builders only, but maybe instead of ruining sims lives you could actually try to make their house look better? I do have to remind you that there was bugs in all previous packs that they fixed *ahem* mermaids walking on top of the water....... so im sure they will be fixing the dream home decorator pack : )
Bu fixing i mean the buginess of the likes an dislikes
@@lucillefuller284 you missed the point of his comment and video. Could you make sims lives better and do good jobs? Yes. The issue is there is no penalty for doing obvious bad jobs. There are no restrictions. If im hired to do a job that's a bathroom, there should be a limitation on what room I can work on. There should be items that I am required to place in order for the job to be completed successfully. Instead, you get total free range, can mess it up completely and still succeed.
There is no reason why I should be doing a child's room renovation yet still pass by redecorating the living room.
The sims 3 atleast had an item checklist. There is no reason 4 couldn't do the same
I honestly wasn’t expecting this pack to be as amazing as everyone was saying but... I’m still shocked how bad this is
sims 4 are bad anyway
I have no fun playing it myself...I have fun watching others playing and be happy with it
with a little honey infusion...and snacks 🥰
I had hopes but given the track record of the sims 4, they weren’t very high tbh
I mean I already predicted that it was going to be boring lol
@MySimsWorld plumbella had to deal with a shitload of bugs for starters
@MySimsWorld sims 4 are bad in a sense that the basic game is still lackluster after 6 year
and the emotion system just doesn't do it's job as every sims act and react the same ways
the heck even vegetarian sims eat meat !!!!
if you enjoy the sims 4 it's fine
but I don't
Remember when game packs used to have entire worlds and occults to add to the gameplay? Now we get a career that's easily exploited and not even worth the reward
Let's face it, the sims 4 is just a dollhouse. It was never meant to have depth and consequence, just pretty pixels so we can play pretend
I'd be cool with dollhouse as long as some of the systems you play within have rules, and it honestly seems like that's the big problem judging by the comments here. So many people do NOT want to play pretend. They want to operate within some rules.
Sims 1- 3 weren't like this at all. Game developers are just lazy. I doubt Sims 5 will be much better. It's all about $$$
I’d agree with that if it hadn’t been for its predecessors which - might I add, had tons of depth and consequence and anyone who’s been playing this game before sims 3 knows this and this is why some of the player base feels let down with lack of creativity, gameplay and depth in the sims 4, time after time after time.
been saying this for years, its a dollhouse simulator aimed at kids, sims was supposed to be a teen and up life simulator with consequences for your actions. Sims2 was a great example of this. if you failed your sim would go insane, you get fired easier, you could die randomly at anytime if you were not careful. Thats why I play sims2 now and forever
@@CarlsSimGuides I know I'm tired of forcing game play!
I now rely almost solely on Carl's reviews of game packs. He's straight forward and down to earth with his reviews. I've been a fan for a really long time (way before you even had youtube), and I look forward to seeing where you go from here. :D
Carl and Grimcookies are the ones I listen to.
Always straightforward and honest and no beating around the bush.
Lgr are also really honest!
@@magscorner I think he doesn't make sims 4 reviews anymore
@@Pollicina_db he does, he covered snowy escape, though I think he skips alot of the bad stuff/not as important
@@Pollicina_db LGR has stated that he will only be reviewing expansion packs going forward. He's done with stuff and game packs.
Even as a builder I don't think it's worth the game pack price for a bunch of furniture. You could already renovate houses and I feel like this career will become repetitive soon.
I also played with the new update for a bit and despite disliking to dance my sim was still dancing autonomously. EA just don't care anymore.
Like how they "fixed" vampires to *stop* lighting fireplaces, yet my vampires (even new CAS) still light up every fireplace in the house. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah, my sim autonomously listened to classical music, which she dislikes. She then went on to be in a bad mood for 4 hours. Smh
you see, i think the renovations will be much less repetitive then say the doctor or scientist carers because you can actually be creative and do something different every time
@@audreyweston5644 If that was the case then I'd rather buy House Flipper for 20$ (it's actually 19.99$) than give EA 20$ for a glorified joke of a game pack. At least House Flipper is a full game with plenty of functionality and gameplay in the house renovation career than this pack will ever be.
@@Tabbalco Plus, we're getting Pets and Luxury Houses soon! House Flipper is putting out a lot more content, which no one can say the same about EA. All of these items we already had in the Sims. It's called CUSTOM CONTENT. Only console players haven't had them, but console is inferior still unfortunately. If the tech was made to use the Internet properly, even console players wouldn't buy this trash, they'd just be smart and get it from CC makers and Modders
"I showed sims dog poo and they liked it," - I suspect the exact same words ea staff says about some "The sims 4" players
best comment 😂🤣
good one. wish I could like this comment ten times over
😂
Exactly 🥲
Ouch, sad but true
In the Sims 3's version of this career, it did matter if you just totally destroyed someone's houses or important items that they needed they'd flip out. I understand the freedom here but that also removes the challenge. I was cautiously optimistic for this one. Might get it but won't pay $20.00
Sims4 has no challenge, kts been dumbed down to kid game level. Sims was originally teen and up rated not just for rude and adult themes but also for the difficulty, it was a life simulator. Now its just a dollhouse simulator, no negatives, decent gameplay or challenges.
I remember I did a renovation job in sims 3, all boxes ticked. Then I showed the effects to the client and she was furious. I was confused, but then I realized that I'd forgotten to build roof over a new room. The game still counted that as a failure. Because it was.
I wouldn’t even get it for $5
I get that they wanted to make it so you could choose to willingly disregard what the townies wanted you to do (like sometimes happens on the tv shows) but for that to actually work it needs to have clear instructions (not just "ask a sim xyz") as to what the sim wants which you have to meet in order to do well on the task. If you want to then deliberately do badly you can do, but you won't be rewarded for it. They could have even had it be that certain townies who are enemies with the townie you are doing the job for could ask you to sabotage the makeover. So you get to choose who to listen to making it a challenge either way.
But no, of course not.
In Sims 3, all things you did actually mattered! Can't wait to go back and leave 4 behind for good
The pain in his voice with the game pack is my whole mood .
how is this not a stuff pack???? literally moschino stuff pack was stuff+ career. game packs need something bigger than one career to be called GAME packs.
have SO musch things on build mode, i think its because of this
Because they can charge twice as much for a game pack. Paranormal stuff pack also had one career and a bunch of build and buy and cost half as much.
Paranormal stuff has more gameplay then this lol.
They used to have standards.
How is this not just an Expansion that added in BOTH Paranormal and Reno Design, as well as two or three other professions? Sims 3 Ambitions is the same price as Sims 4 expansions, and it gave us: Architect, Paranormal Investigator, Private Investigator, Inventor, Sculptor, Stylist, self-employment careers (Gardener, Painter, Writer, Alchemist with SN pack, Band with LN pack), and even sort of a Tattoo Artist except not because it's not a career but that's the ONLY odd one out of the whole pack that's a bit off.
Sims 3 had ENDLESS gameplay content from ONE SINGLE PACK. Ambitions and Generations are considered the MOST IMPORTANT packs in all of Sims 3 because they actually gave the game so much life. But Sims 4 has literally neither. They rip apart everything we had from Sims 3 and sell it separately so they can make more money. They have the ability to make a proper expansion pack from literally 4 Stuff Packs and 2 Game Packs, but they won't because they want money, not to make their players happy.
We still can't paint the ceiling. One might think that This pack would actually enable this feature..well.. apparently not according to EA
Heck my friend thought we were about to paint ceilings. I didn't even try, I guess it's not a thing.. but it'd have nothing to do with this pack anyway. Imagine needing to spend $20 to paint the ceiling.
@@CarlsSimGuides yeah there is a lot that wouldn't make sense paying 20$ for when it comes to The Sims 4. I regret till this day buying the realm of magic pack.
@@Lillesmol I'm so bored of my game was just about to buy ROM and strangerville 🥴Thanks for this heads up😊
@@CarlsSimGuides Why introduce two features in a $20 pack when you can split them across multiple packs? The $20 Paint the Ceilings Pack will probably be next.
Has it ever been a feature in any sims game? pretty sure it's omitted since you can't see it 90% of the time while playing
Wow! I can't believe none of the other reviews have mentioned whether the 'gameplay mechanics' actually work! This really is a new low... I know reviewing Sims 4 packs must feel like a thankless job these days, but thank you for doing it and doing it well ❤️
Plumbella did a pretty critical review though. Lilsimsie, as always, said the pack was amazing
@@CClarinet123 Yeah I liked Plumbella's review. And I can understand that, as long-time fans of the series, we naively assume that the we love game is actually *doing* something. And I bet the Game Changers have to do their videos so quickly that they might not have time to test all the mechanics. No doubt it would have become apparent with time. It's just such a shame LGR gave up on reviews (I don't blame him!) but I'm really grateful we've got Carl. I imagine Pleasant Sims might also do a critical review of the pack when she gets a chance? But there really aren't many voices in the Sims community any more who will really interrogate the game.
@@candyak9985 yep, that's it. Most of the reviews are always super positive until a few months later when people have already bought the game. There's a lack of critical reviews...
@@CClarinet123 Yeah, it will definitely become apparent after a few 'lets be a bad decorator' videos. Interestingly, I just watched Lilsimsie's video and you can kind of see that what she did had no impact on the outcome.
Classic failure of testing - checking it does what you think it should do, and not checking what happens if you do something else.
Why is everyone acting surprised that this pack is trash? It was obvious from the start. The Sims 4 team is the laziest Sims team ever.
I wouldn't call the team lazy: they're probably overworked and underpaid, if anything. The problem is that EA doesn't allocate enough resources to actually make something good, because corporate knows that garbage will turn a higher profit.
No, I would definitely call them lazy. They’ve shown time and again that they’re proud of the work they’re doing. And they shouldn’t be.
100% agree. I tried playing with the pack today and I couldn't even hang on for 30 minutes.
@@zoneout116 so what if they're proud they're allowed to like their project
facts, the trailer was good but the pack is lacking so much. I'm glad I saved my money, I will go back to playing 3 now
Why does EA release sims packs without fully testing them....? This pattern shows their lack of professionalism.
Because they know people will buy them regardless. Sadly, the gaming industry is getting a bit too used to releasing broken products.
A good majority of games are now released in awful states and the customer is expected to be the play tester.
Because they don't care about the game or its audience, just money; EA's agenda is simply to crap out as many packs as possible, regardless of the quality. Personally, I don't fault the developers for the lack of depth in the packs since it's mostly the fault of the company higher-ups-who've clearly never played a game in their life-who refuse to let the developers take time off pumping new (hollow) content in order to fix the game.
I read a post on another video from someone who used to work as a QA tester for EA and they do actually fully test them, and often highlight tons of bugs. The issue is that EA higher ups have different ways of categorising bugs and if its considered by them to not be worth the extra time (and therefore money) to fix, then the bug goes into the "known shippable" category. As in they know about it and are more than happy for it to ship on release date with those bugs still there. They will then fix the worst ones if, and only if, they get enough negative feedback about the bug(s) from players to make it worth (to them) fixing them. Hence why their forum places great emphasis on clicking "me too" on bug reports and also retires threads if they haven't had any interactions in 3 months (lack of interactions means they think its been forgotten so don't need to bother paying staff to fix it).
Most of the graphical error type bugs (so the teeth vanishing with some of the new hair swatches/styles, sims getting stuck in the ceilings - in Paranormal and this pack, etc) end up in the "known shippable" category. Only ones which repeatedly (100% of the time) cause game crashes or save file corruptions get fixed before release, and a few other ones that cause stability issues. Other than that? They'll fix it later. Maybe. If they can be bothered to spend some of their billions.
Arent They Doing The No Mans Sky/Fallout 76 Type Extremely-Early/Pre-Release Development Type Final Release Method?
Thanks for this review Carl: I was about to say that I am disappointed that this pack is lack-lustre, as I usually have faith in the game pack team to do a decent job.. But I guess this has proven (for the 1000th time) that nothing really is sacred any more over at EA. Keep up the great work!
I too had that sense of game packs being stronger, but it was shattered on this one. Thank you for the confidence in me.
@@CarlsSimGuides I lost faith in GPs when Realm of Magic was completely untested and all my Sims were converted into wizards wearing random outfits without my say-so
Then Journey to Batuu came out
Surprised they gave you early access to the pack after the heavy criticism you give them on a weekly basis!
I'm a member of the program and I think it's respectable of them to keep it that way. Nothing would stop me from reviewing things, regardless. I do not seek out to hate things - and never really hate or get mean at devs - I always state the reason I'm disappointed and I think we have a mutual respect for this reason.
Carl has been what I would describe as an icon in the sim community for a long while now so I trust his reviews because they are very similar to my own views on the direction the sims 4 has take . His criticism is well deserved and well received because it’s true and echoes the sentiments of a good portion of the player base that wouldn’t be heard at all without his voice. So yeah, I respect EA for having Carl as a game changer but that’s as far as it goes...lol
they are not allowed to discriminate based on negative reviewing, its part of being a game critic

I think EA is basically just making what lilsimsie wants and asks for. lol
And of course she loves this pack lol. I don’t even want to watch her video over this pack because I know she’ll just be licking ea’s boots 😔

I have a question tho. Why everybody praises Sims Team for giving us TWOOO sets of kitchen counters. Like... they are not that hard to make. The system, the code for them is already there, all they have to do to make new ones is to draw pictures and recolor them. Maybe alter meshes sometimes, but the mesh is literally a box. Kitchens are not that hard to make and here is the sims community praising them for making bare minimum like wtf?
You always enjoy what you starving for, so less they give us of something more grateful we will be when we finally get something we desperately feel we need in the game. Basic mind-games and marketing. Rarity increase value. Make something seem rare, like diamonds and you can make people pay a whole years of salary to get a wedding ring... business is a cruel world and only way to beat it is to educate yourself about things true value. So you right we shouldn't be this happy about something you can get free from CC creators but a lot of us have fallen for the rarity lie.
@@Ariancia.Thystarian yeah that's exactly what you are talking about, Sims team is very manipulative, they are good salesmen tho, look how many people are still buying their content even tho it's shitty af. THAT's a talent for sure
I guess most people haven't cracked open Blender to try. It's stupid easy to model an entire kitchen set and I've seen several beginner friendly tutorials for it, so it baffles me too that people are praising the Sims Team for a job an inexperienced person can do in a few hours alone. The only 'complicated' part is the texture drawing, but most Sims stuff is one color and one texture per object with the occasional detail that has to be placed in the right spot while painting.
@@Ariancia.Thystarian i can name multiple youtubers who just praise this pack purely because they added ikea furniture, seperate stove, and sectional sofas. the bar is so incredibly low.
Hey Carl, as someone who loves to build in the Sims, I have to tell you that builders will rush to buy this pack without hesitation (me included). When looking at the many build challenges on TH-cam, I think one can see why this pack is so appealing. In terms of gameplay, you are spot on! I just watched a grimcookies video and he was the only one I have seen so far, aside from you, who’s calling out this lack of gameplay.
Plumbella also highlighted the fact that the bugs make it practically unplayable currently.
buy it if you're a builder and like to decorate rooms and will enjoy the build mode, which is the best out of the game packs, and rivals all the packs with TS4 with its 2 new kitchen sets, sectional couches, drawers that click together, walk-in closet possibility. Plus, you may enjoy the career if you take it seriously
@@Gingeries17 love her reviews as well. She’s always so honest and in-depth like Carl. My two go to people for reviews
@jess well my comment was made to point out that even though as a builder I LOVE new challenges I still see the total lack of new gameplay. i actually feel bad paying for this pack (and hey i haven't paid yet so maybe i will wait) because i think it is important to show EA we want change by keeping their sales low. i didn't pay for Batuu and the kits (even though i love the content of them) because those are some of the worst money grabs i've ever seen in the Sims 4. i definitely agree that it isn't justified
@jess oh sorry lol i only meant that a great percentage would do it but i'm sure not all!
"Thank you for watching, sorry I didnt have better news"
Dude, that tickled me haha
This is a supersized stuff pack that they tried to pass as a game pack, but forgot to add the gameplay part
Unpopular opinion: the new furniture that comes with this looks like low end cheap Ikea stuff. And only ONE style of furniture in a "dream decorator" pack, really?
I think it was made to look like ikea intentionally. They kept going on about the "scandinavian influence" which is their way of saying "ikea didn't want to work with us but we did it anyway". But I strongly agree that the lack of furniture styles is stupid. This pack literally introduces interior design likes and dislikes, but doesnt give us any new furniture to build for sims with those preferences.
@@isyoursheepwireless
I think IKEA made a right choice for not corporate with EA anymore after Sims 3 or was it Sims 2. Sadly the item look is generic design so it cannot be licenced under company name.
I agree about the furniture looking low end. I have no problem with IKEA stuff. I like IKEA stuff however I can’t imagine hiring an interior decorator to redecorate my house with IKEA furniture.
I can’t believe they don’t hire cc creators to make more game content. The few things we did get a few months ago were trash lol

@@deliapascal3550 same, can’t bring myself to even to surprised anymore at the state this game has been in. It will surely go down in the books as the worst sims in the series tho...lol
@@NotLikeUs17 honestly for most the community I feel it already has. Even with the laggy mess that sims 3 is, at least that was... yknow. Fun?? And at least the sims 2 and 3 both had actual personality? 2 and 3 felt like actual worlds with living characters. Sims 4 feels like.. a doll set.
I played this game a lot on and off from 2017 to 2020. I experienced extreme burnout, and here I am, playing Sims 2 with no plans of going back soon. I seem to rotate between the two, sometimes TS3 thrown in there too, but TS4 has let me down so much and I have so many mods I need to constantly update, that I think I might not even go back. I don't know if it's even worth my time anymore. I'm really not sure.
The architectural designer profession from TS3 Ambitions had a list of items you were required to buy when renovating, as well as having a point system that could be further influenced in ways such as gaining points for placing homemade objects, or losing points for making objects unroutable (and there are many more ways to influence the score). That was one career out of many from Ambitions. The interior decorator profession was the sole focus of Dream Home Decorator, and it still managed to be more shallow it's Sims 3 counterpart.
Holy moly. I started my sims 4 boycott when university released and even I had some hope for this pack. The fact that there are no requirements for rooms and that you can just sell anything and keep it personally is sO BAD I don’t even know what to say. They really had us in the first half not gonna lie.
TS4 truly is an ocean wide and a puddle deep.
Bruh, building commercial lots in base game has more gameplay. They literally tell you what items you need and how many you need in order for the lot to be considered what you're building. e.g. you need x amount of computers and bookshelves to make a library.
They failed at reproducing a base game feature. COPY and PASTE (technically not, but again, if you are a game developer and/or a serious company you should know how to do your dog poo again).
Fun stuff for the wallet, I'm staying with TS3.
Dang, that’s a brilliant point.
I had the feeling this pack would suck when I found that would come with just a career but some people and some other game changers will put this on a pedestal because of a sofa or a stove. The Sims 4 in a nutshell!
objects that do nothing are art not gameplay additions.
*cough* lilsimsie *cough*
Now, really, only builders will rank this pack as supreme and as the best pack EA has ever released.
news flash! we all play The Sims for different reasons! Just because you don't like it doesn't mean other people aren't entitled to their own opinions on it.
@@smurfettesmurf5077 Wow, how crazy that a person who loves Sims building and who is known for that type of content might like a pack focused on building/items instead of deep gameplay. If you watch her Twitch stream from yesterday, she ran into the bugs she hadn't faced/ wasn't aware if in her initial review and can see a longer and more in-depth contemplation about the pack and its quality.
@@ElDimentio Newsflash! Back in Sims 3 the feature worked. Newsflash! It also came in Ambitions for much, much cheaper. Newsflash! Back in Sims 3, you could buy any random pack and still get sectionals. You did not need a builder pack just to build.
It’s a “builders pack” but it doesn’t have any build stuff in it! Isn’t there like one wallpaper and no floors? No windows? It’s a $20 furniture pack.
"expensive stuff pack"
well, that makes sense because it's specifically *interior* designer and not architecture, we're not bulldozing and starting again, only decorating.
@@littlewammity9896 because “interior decorating” doesn’t include painting/wallpapering/changing the floor and “renovating” doesn’t include windows, columns, railings, stairs, etc.
My first architecture coming soon
Carl: Games require rules!
The Sims 4: We don't do that here.
i reckon a new world wouldve done it good, a world where there are lots of different people with preset preferences and such, kinda built like san myshuno with different districts and such with different styles and living in different areas affects your sims preferences. it couldve been realy good
i know city living was an expansion pack but just a new world wouldnt be bad
Considering how many other game packs got new worlds(6/9), there's no reason we couldn't have had one with this one. It would have been a great opportunity to add more lots and different styles instead of just reusing old ones
Ooh, that would have been really cool. But this is EA we're talking about.
I'm a little disappointed that the existing NPC's didn't get preset likes/dislikes with the update. I tested on a new save and all the iconic NPC's all seemed to have randomized crap that doesn't suit them at all. Huge miss for added nuance there.
And dont forget no new trait, or aspiration 😂 at this point its just funny
Oh yea! I almost didn't notice. Even if all the recent aspirations are just pack 'to do' checklists, it would have given a brief moment of goal driven gameplay! But since you don't need a toilet in a bathroom remodel..... what goals, right?
I love how they thought to add aspirations for being super clean or super filthy with the bust the dust kit, but didn't think to add aspirations for an actual new career.
@@UmJammerChelle and like what do those aspirations for dust kit even mean, or add to the game?
@@littlewammity9896 The super filthy one allows you to comfortably live in a filthy house; so you can have a weird preference and gain perks. It's designed better than some aspects of this pack and that kit was broken too.
I am in tears over here with them loving the dog crap. Thanks for the great review and I you made me think of this pack in a different way. I have seen others and it was all perfect game play but your play through really lets you see that IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER what you do to their homes 😂
My friend suggested I mute the shit word and I'm all.. . nope not this time it's too funny.
Perhaps they all just really like the colour brown. I wonder if they would have been as pleased with the odd colour versions like the rainbow poop or not.
Thank you Carl, you are the only simmer doing an honest review of this pack. Every other sims 4 youtuber out there is just "ignoring" all the bug, glitches and underdeveloped features. This is not "being negative", its showing other players the reality of the pack so they can make an informed decision on buying it or not. Thank you, keep it going :)
Well, regardless what reviewer would say or judge about the new DLC's. Most simmers would still buy it tho.
@@gardayustisia4528 Thats true with most brainless consumers in general. The fact anyone would even consider giving EA money after they've been voted worst company twice in a row. People still through money at them. Give it charity instead, a much better use of the money.
There’s a recurring thing that masculine get 2 hairstyles in CAS yet the feminine get like 5
Yeah...I feel I'm not loved 😥
Why not balance things out by adding a couple new facial hairs for the males?
That's always been a thing in The Sims, sadly 😥
Much like in real life LOL
There’s only that many hair options even in real life. Men aren’t exactly as excited and adventurous about hair. But yeah they could definitely compensate by giving more facial and body hair options.
This used to be a Sims channel but is gradually turning into a case study of a man slowly losing his mind. 😄
i will say its kind of cathartic watching this series burn like it is. I really love the sims but the fact that its just gotten so blatantly bad that everyone is dumbfounded is like tragically hilarious to me. I never imagined they would let it get this awful, but its kind of fun to see like what they will do next to make players even more dissapointed.
At this point, I really do hope that Sims 5 is the online only multiplayer live service mess that people fear it being so it crashes and burns. I don't care about the future direction of the franchise under EA anymore, and if the Sims dies, then so be it. There's going to be a franchise to come along and take its place eventually if it does.
@@UmJammerChelle same here, I also hope sims 5 is just a quick and painless end to this franchise. Its suffered long enough lmao, we need to put the poor thing out of its misery. But yes there will be someone to fill the niche eventually, probably paralives though I would bet a bunch of small developers will jump on that too trying to be the next big life sim game.
I think Paralives can do it!
@@UmJammerChelle like City Skylines, SimCity died for that game to rise to glory.
I appreciate that you don't pull any punches, or sugar coat anything in your reviews. I feel like when other game changers do reviews, they're far too soft, and don't say things that should be mentioned. You're straight to the point, but aren't too negative, and I love that! Keep up the awesome work, you're doing a great job. 😄
Lil Simsie played with a family in eco lifestyle and it turns out Blossom hates gardening, while in English Simmer review Tina Tinker hates handiness skill. I don't think their likes and dislikes were random, the system, where if you are tense while doing something makes you hate it, ruins the existing lore completely (and it's lacking anyway)
Yiiiiiiiikes that's bad
Hurts my soul. It’s true. I find ways to enjoy TS4, so I’m not someone who normally criticizes - but everything you said is true. I mentioned this in my gameplay. The build items are great, cas is cute but It lacks in SO MANY other departments. For a game pack, it’s very disappointing.. “I showed the sims dog poo... and they liked it” 😭
Oh boy... my five cents on the sectional couches, I'm playing Sims 2, it's just my favourite out of the series and my pc takes it ridiculously well, so uh my current family are made up of the Brokes and the family very quickly expanded when Brandi married the Dreamer guy, so I needed a huge couch, but none of the couches did it for me so guess what... I used the sectional couches. They're nothing new.
yeah I really feel like ts4 sectionals are ... well, counters.
fellow sims2 player here. so happy its being loved to this day by many
Carl is the most honest Sims reviewer out there! I appreciate your content, sir.
Give this man a like and a comment!
I hope that when sims 4 is put to rest the Mod creators will take over and rework the game once there are no more patches. like in sims 3 and 2. It did wonder for Elder Scrolls Skyrim game.
Carl: builders will probably love this
Me, thinking about Kayla's "this is my favourite pack ever" title
😂
Her review was great. I’m honestly excited for this pack.
@@zoeg3200 she’s a shill
@@DresdenShuffle for what... having a different opinion? Lol
kayak was definitely the target audience for this pack lmao. she loves the new furniture, enjoys the career for the creative freedom granted, and thinks the lack of restrictions is funny because she can put gnomes everywhere. i respect her opinion, but objectively... 😬 this is so bad
@@zoeg3200 good on you for feeding a poor little starving girl she needed that bread 😢
The sims is a multimillion dollar franchise this literally shouldn't even be not working and glitchy 7 years into the game I find it unacceptable but everyone keeps apologizing for EA
Multi billion now. EA has a net worth of $42 billion... That they have that much worth and refuse to reinvest in their games (same issue with FIFA, Battlefront etc etc) is awful. Especially since their favourite thing to do is buy up game studios doing things right, making the staff redundant (or forcing them out with shitty wages etc) and then just "employing" interns for the most part. They just don't care about making the games high quality, they care about them being high profit.
Thank you Carl! This is why I no longer rush to buy extra content. Hearing reviews on actual game play and experience and bugs rather than taking the promo videos seriously. I am to be a patron though the good news and the bad.
Holy cow, didn't realize it was this low effort/buggy. Thank you, I will just keep playing with my mods and CC until they either improve or put this pack on a good sale
Remember The Sims 3: Ambitions where interior decorator was just one of the various new carreers and it actually worked?
plumbella noticed all the bugs and damn it seems like there are so many. She's a builder and was taking it seriously, so she actually did the remodels. I do not think she would like it if none of it actually mattered.
You and Pleasantsims are the only ones I trust. And no worries, you're not negative! You're just realistic.
Since LGR isn't doing as many Sims reviews these days, you're the reviewer I'll trust most these days especially since you've been with the series for quite a while. I thought like many this DLC would've been a nice one with more thoughtful content for realism lovers.
Once again Carl comes out with my favorite game review. Im not sure if its the sarcastic voice, the dead laughter or the blunt honesty that makes these my favorite lol.
Ugh. I was actually excited for this based on other's reactions. Thanks for being the voice of reason Carl, as always.
Your pack reviews are by far the BEST. I love my other youtube simmers but your honesty mixed with comedy is just *chefs kiss*
Something else I've noticed about Likes and Dislikes in game play. The game actually lets you set likes and dislikes autonomously for any played sims whether they are they active sim you are playing or not. I've got a current save game where I'm rotating through houses, and after playing a sim they'll show up at house parties or at public places like gyms and nightclubs. I've marked every sim household as played, but only ones that I've actually played let me set likes and dislikes for in this way. So during the same trip to the gym while playing the Roomies Household, they all went to the gym. Mortimer goth showed up while we were there and I was autonomously asked to set his like for fitness, and then later during the same trip Eric Lewis showed up and I autonomously set him to dislike fitness.
Can I say that I love your videos? You are the only one left to make an honest review about sims 4.
My mod folder is over half a gig. Just to make TS4 playable again.
skyrim syndrome :D
I just looked and my mods folder as of right now is 17.7 GB 😂 it’s probably 80% build/buy cc. EA builds are tragic and I’m making a save file I can stand to look at and actually works correctly (i make sure my houses have toilets)
really appreciate you uploading your videos with captions!
The Sims admiring the dog poop reminds me of the time someone dropped a pair of glasses at an art gallery and everyone gathered around it and thought it was an art project.
Yep, i was too quick to judge and was excited for a good pack for once...
I even thought about what would happen if you just troll the room and do only the bare minimium.. and said "nahh they wouldn't do something so bad".
Well, it's just EA, Maxis has been dead for more than a decade now, not sure why i expected different.
The level of content would have been fine for a Stuff Pack level. If Paranormal had it's own world, it could have been a GP instead. I'm not sure what executive is deciding what makes the grade for each pack type anymore but it's confusing. I do miss Maxis tho. :(
OMGosh this is hilarious. Best Game Review ever lol I am going to share this on my page. I love the use of 💩 I couldn't stop laughing.
For real! I didn't even know we had such magnificent 💩 in the game! He's not just saying the truth but also creative at doing it 🤣
I am DYING for when the cottage pack comes out so you can roast it lol
Watching other youtubers, make me wonder, what happens if you never call them back for the reveal and your sim just kind of lives there.
On a positive note, it's nice to see that there is a content creator out there that is 100% honest in reviews!
I like how he gets for free but slams it anyway, like someone sincere
Honestly I think you got lucky. Ive done like 7 or 8 jobs and failed half of them despite following the listed likes and dislikes and staying in budget, even once when they seemed to like the result. I think its because even though the job details tell you like 3 or 4 likes and dislikes, the house's sims have more they dont tell you without cheating into their CAS.
It almost feels like The Sims recently have been throwing us scraps of meat and relying on modders to make playable games out of their mistakes.
Thank you so much for your honesty Carl. I am a little excited to try this pack (when it goes on sale, that is) because I am *not* a builder, and I think it might help me get better, because opening an empty lot with no direction is pretty daunting. But knowing exactly what I am getting into is important to me. You honestly do the Sims community such a huge service with your content.
I like youtubers like Carl and Plumbella, they aren’t afraid to tell the truth
Unlike lilsimsie
I don't think that she doesn't tell the truth, I think it's how she really sees it. It’s just not critical or in dept. Carl seems to me to be the type that checks what happens when you go against the grain, which makes that he notice stuff most player don’t directly notice. Lilsimsie is more short term when she start review, she see something she thinks is pretty and it worth to her to pay 20 buck for just one item. Does that make me wonder if she has to much money? Yes, it does. Do I take her review seriously? No, I don’t… But I don’t think it comes from a place that she wants to lie to other players.
I don't hate Kayla, but I've had to start distancing myself from watching her videos because her reviews are very surface-level and make her seem ignorant to me. In her defense though, I think she truly does love the pack because it caters to her gameplay style. She's more of a builder, and like Carl said, she'll take the new pack seriously without actually trying to determine if it makes sense for others to purchase and enjoy.
In her defense... she doesn't care much about gameplay and building is her main strenght so... She's reviewing mostly what she's interested rather than what the pack proposed itself
She definitely is just more optimistic, not nearly afraid to tell the truth. She's got plenty of rants about strangerville, my first pet, and realm of magic
dude you don't have to bring down one person to uplift another. Everyone will have a different opinion and besides it's just a game. Someone people won't be in depth with their review and that's fine, you don't have to watch their content.
What shocks me the most about the hype for this game pack versus the general bad reception of Strangerville is at its core it's got so much less to offer and yet has excited people the most. Strangerville had a new sizeable world, a hefty build and buy, a new career and new gameplay (albeit linear). I get that people have tastes and interests, but Strangerville proves that including all these things in a game pack is doable unless you want it to include a kitchen set.
Thank you for actually testing this "game pack" and saving me from spending $20. We can renovate lots and deposit simoleans to a sims household via cheats without this pack.. so really what is the difference. This is a $20 furniture pack.
As a person who loves going into the other worlds and redesigning all the decor in the houses this pack is my favorite.
When an Animal Crossing spinoff does a deeper room renovation simulator than THE SIMS, run
I love your honesty and completely agree. I thought home decorator would be an online page where simmer could post needed builds and other simmers could pick up the request and build them and build their repertoire
I was so excited for this pack. My hopes and dreams have been crushed...
As a Sims player since 2000 with an older Mac, I haven’t bought any new content since switching to the Legacy Edition of the game, and I’m not as bummed about it as I expected to be. Thank you for your honest reviews.
I was going to get this pack, but the glitches combined with the fact that you can empty their house, paint everything red, place 4 types of items and get standing ovations.... Yikes.
Thank you for being honest, straight to the point and for doing testing!
I had decent hope for this pack, but of course waited for reviews from realistic and grounded simmers.
I don't want to play dolls with no rules- I want to interact with sims and see what happens based on X or Y. I want to be able to fail, not always have some perfect millennial dream home stimulation.
I miss the depth and character of the older games. I wish they'd stop hacking up and rushing out Sims 4 content!
Meanwhile my next autoplay recommendation is lilsimsies "DREAM HOME DECORATOR IS MY FAVORITE SIMS PACK". I dont even want to watch her video about it tbh :(
Her video came out before she started experiencing any bugs. So it's her saying she loves the pack. However, in her live stream yesterday she started running into bugs and glitches a couple of gurus were in chat when this happened. She said she wanted to like the game but it was very clear the bugs got to her. So take that video with a grain of salt. She like it when it was working properly.
I love this. I love when you can be a part of the GCers program and still give a true opinion. I was going to buy this right away BUT I realized that I don't really need it as I could just go to someone's home and redo it without any problems, cheats or a career. I did like the idea of this but if I do buy it, I would wait until for a sale and it's true price $10 or less, to get it.
*Sims 3 did it better and it wasn't a pack about it* but again The Sims 3 did everything better🙄
What's sad is that The Sims 4 is so bogged down with content and bugs that it doesn't even have its one claim to fame over The Sims 3 anymore: being a stable game.
Well said Carl. I came here for a clear and honest review and I got one - you saved me money again !!
This feels more like a stuff pack tbh. It's not adding any new gameplay, everyone already knows how to build, we all do it.
In honesty, I still like playing the sims4. It’s the only version I’ve ever played. And I loaded up and played for hours yesterday. I didn’t get the pack, because of all the reports of bugs. And also as my sims all have jobs etc atm. I gameplay more than cas or building. I used to buy a lot of packs on sale, but really don’t use a lot of them. So I’m trying to go back and get playability out of what I’ve spent. And that’s fun. Having camping holidays, doing uni whilst raising a family. Gardening and flower arranging. Dining out, which works now. Resolving the strangerville mystery, but only on the weekends... I may get this on sale. When they’ve ironed out the bugs. For one of my children/ grandchildren to have a career to do on days they want to work. The game is what you make it. Work around the flaws. And enjoy what is there. 🤷♀️ xx
Thanks Carl for your honest feedback as usual 👍🏻 xx
I love building. It’s my favorite part of the sims 4. But god, I don’t need a single additional object at this point. I need meaningful gameplay with actual consequences. The only update that has given me that in years (honestly since toddlers) is the sentiments - they seem to work well and I love that a couple sibling fights really impact my sims and make them mad in each other’s presence. Lifestyles have been buggy as hell for me and I haven’t noticed likes/dislikes doing much but changing autonomous actions (which is helpful I guess, but I was hoping for more). This game is just so disappointing. DOES EA HAVE A SINGLE QUALITY TESTER??? All I do now is build houses, and play a single sim generation before I’m bored. I never really felt I needed more objects in sims 1 and 2 because I had gameplay.
I don't intend to buy any pac or stuff anymore anyway.
I come here for the honesty of Carl. Whom I adore👍
I hope to god Paralives makes EA realize they're losing their fanbase.
For real
Agreed!! The bugs are pretty unreal - and the patch with the new pack introduced a whole new slew of bugs in the game overall, not just in the career components. I think this should have been classed as a stuff pack, since that is where the real appeal is. The items are GORGEOUS. However, I've even noticed some of the swatches appear differently in game than their swatch colors indicate, or there are duplicates of colors in the swatches for the counters especially! I've also noticed the new stove/oven bit goes with the counter and slots in, but with the island, the drawers remain and clip through the oven part!! Overall very pretty to look at and take pictures of, just don't look to close and don't press play.
Oh man this makes me so sad I was so excited for this
I honestly, appreciate the hilarious honesty. 🤣 especially the unexpected positive reaction to 💩.
I'm curious about the new upcoming expansion pack and I kinda still like this game pack solely for the items not necessarily the new career short comings. UNFORTUNATELY BUGS ARE INDEED EXPECTED WITH EVERY PACK but atleast it's usually addressed and sorted out.
Thanks
I really like the architect freelance career in The Sims 3 so I was planning to buy this pack. But I guess I’ll just wait for it to be on sale. 🤷♀️
I'm just gonna go play Sims 3 and that job instead, lmao
Don't even buy it if you want to avoid more glitches
waaaaaaaaaaaaaay deeper :/
And way functional. Not to say way cheaper.
