    picked from the trash! I do the same thing because the wood is better than what I can buy - it has literally had 20 or more years to dry and stabilize and is a joy to work with

    The first half of the th-cam.com/users/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

    Cut the sides out of a Ziploc (or similar) plastic bag and press your dough between the resultant plastic sheets and you will have an easier time of it.
    If your dough doesn't peel nicely from the plastic it is too wet

      Just need some flour on the press.

      I also use the plastic method and the tortillas peel off with no problem. Also I made mine square and it still works great! Round looks cooler though!😀

    I am already looking forward to the linear actuator upgrade for the tortilla press video 😅

    Use an actual tortilla as the spacer.

    Really like this version and the way you leave the extra piece on the circle! Want to give it a try ! Thank you

    Interesting detail, the space between the plates. I made one last year and didn't work too well and maybe is because of that. Thanks ;)

    If you glue a couple of small spacers equal to the thickness of the thin plywood spacer you initially used somewhere close to the lever side, it will prevent the dreaded "thinner on the lever side and fatter on the hinge side" problem that commercial tortilla presses have. Speaking as a fellow woodworker who has made a few of these myself. It's one of the smartest and most easily reproducible designs I've seen so far though, so kudos! 😄

      Can't you get away from this problem by turning the chapati upside down and batting again?

    Great project. I suggest a meatier handle press. You know what they say, a couch coach. No offense. Wax paper is best. 😊

    The handle sticks out past the front so you may as well have left an extra few inches of wood at the front of the bottom base. That would stop the whole thing tilting forward when you press down hard. Also the hinge could be made stronger, perhaps with ply wood. Sounded like there was a nice crack at the end of your sped up pressing.

    You don't want to get that Woody taste in your tortilla. You could always use a few pieces of wax paper or parchment paper and it won't stick to your tortilla flattener

    Nice planer, thanks for the heads up. I was ready to buy the Dewalt for a big project coming up. BTW, was the maple too hard for your cnc to cut?

    • @DIYBuilds
      @DIYBuilds  ปีที่แล้ว

      No. More fun to use regular tools vs cnc.

    Nice score on the table. As for the press.... I'll enjoy the build but I don't need a press... I live in TX and if I never see another tex mex restaurant it'll be too soon. I didn't grow up here so I didn't develop the acquired taste for tex-mex and Dr Pepper which tastes like carbonated prune juice.

    Lol NEVER to use with flour tortillas is only for corn (mazeca) tortillas and we ALWAYS use a plastic liner that covers the tortilla top and bottom, then you can lift over your hand and linto hot surface for cooking. .😂😂😂😮😮😮 😊😊😊

    Why don't you use a rolling pin?

    • @DIYBuilds
      @DIYBuilds  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's not the project I wanted to build.

    • @terry2346
      @terry2346 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A rolling pin doesn't work as quickly or as evenly. You can crank a batch of these in just a few minutes, especially using the plastic liner method!
