@@Razzle_and_Dazzle. it is necessary if you plan to rope cattle. A horn wrap protects your horn when you dally (wrap your rope around the horn). A horn wrapped with leather is considered “slick” horn and taking wraps around the horn acts like a break to slow and stop the cow that is roped.

Another thing a fella can do is use the worn out horn wrap for your Chinaman strap if you don't have one handy. Great video by the way.
