🎸 PRIVATE GUITAR LESSON with GREGG FINE: codabop.podia.com/jazz-guitar-lesson
I appreciate you work, here. I spent a lot of time in some old Martino book before I finally "cracked the code."
Another of many possible observations: this particular song is the "So What" chord progression. And Martino's concerts included a lot of these long "modal" jams, Another observation is that his lines seem so simple on paper, but the way they come flying out when he plays them.....
It's a minor difference of opinion, but I would not say he is changing "scales" (tonality) to the melodic minor, but rather using a chromatic lead-in note (or that B-G# is an enclosure). He does the same thing on Sunny. Notice in the measure you identify at 10:58 and the one at 26.02 (Use Repitition) as he ascends, the line includes G-nat. The G# was just a blip.
This is also close to Pat’s unique tone. Everyone forgets his tone and just lock onto the speed and lines. Thanks for this. Well done.
Thank you!
This is one of my three favorite albums of all time I bought it in 1975 when I was 15 and made me want to learn Jazz. Still a killer album
Mine too!
I am a sax player and you really inspired me with some lines! thanks a lot! good work

Awesome as always. In the Rock Ensemble of Beach High and with the Miami Dade Jazz Ensemble with JB Dyas. Happy to see you made it. We went to school together probably since Junior high. Greetings from Miami, Florida.

Great video ,thanks for sharing your knowledge .I'm a trumpet major and guitar minor ,this is right up my alley having lived in Philly and also having friends who who knew Mr.Martino .
Awesome! Trumpet and guitar, you're a double threat! :-)
Well at least I know or at least can comprehend a guitarist mindset ,a cat on your level has paid his dues .
Very cool and eye-opening lesson. Especially intriguing example with Melodic Minor, didn't realize it can be so easily "converted" from Dorian, which I use a lot. You've got one more subscriber:)
Thanks!! Glad you found it helpful. More coming soon!
So Kool. Thanks so much for sharing.Hope you are well God loves you deeply Shalom 🤗🐼❤️✝️💐 Philippians 4:8
Thank you for watching!
Content worth so many hours of study, thank you
Hi Thomas, thanks for watching! Let me know if there are any other topics or solos you'd like to see.
@@greggfineguitar will do! I watched the Pat Metheny video as well, also great, very informative too! Thanks a lot.
@@thomasishida3657 👍🏻
A minor works well against d minor and I thank you for the tips. Minor and major are interchangeable also many times! The trick to me,not to sound like Pat Martino per se! I like real Jazz musicians!
That would be awesome if you could do more of these. Thanks
Thanks Vincent, hoping to do more soon
Thank you for this! I'll be going over and watching/listening to the video. I'm hoping to soak it all in 😓
Hey Adam, thank you for watching!
Great playing Gregg! I'm a new subscriber! :-)
Hey RIccardo, thank you!
very good
Thanks!
Nice playing, I thought Pat minorised his lines though. His lines might imply mixo but it's just a mode from the major scale. It might not be what he was thinking and was just playing within the tonal center, treating Am as the ii chord. Great vid though and I got the ideas super helpful!
Thank you for the comments and for watching as well!

this is a great video. thanks. I was kinda hoping you’d touch on his articulation which is a more general feature anyway, not specific to this song. Did Pat slightly lift a finger each note to give it that staccato vibe?
Wow some who can break down the song and you understand it what's going on thxs
Thanks for watching!

Cool man, cheers. How long does it take you to memorize all Pat's lines like that? I guess it's a plus that we all have that record baked into our brains. Anyway I never do stuff like that and I think I'll try it. This is really good, thanks.
Thank you! I don't remember how long it took for this one but I probably learned a few lines at a time over the course of a week.

That was helpful. I've been studying Pats book "Linear Expressions" . Do you have it ....really works well with what you showed on this video.
Thanks SoulCall! I'll have to check out that book 👍🏻
Gregg Fine Guitar I recommended it to online teacher Mikko Helden he did a review and we' have about 13,000 views .I think you'll love the book /Don

Me too and currently working on Pats solo on Impressions
You have some great videos Greg with great content and lessons. May I ask, how do you place the titles of your videos on the thumbnails? The front screen. Thank you!
Hey Nelson, thanks! I'm usually using Screenflow to do all of the video editing and titles.
Is this in iMovie? @@greggfineguitar
Very thoughtful lesson, Thank you. I got the download of the sheets and when I print the pages there's a gray-ness to the background that makes it difficult to see. Is that necessary?
2:13 lick alert!
haha, the lick!
Can u help and break down this song called let's play by chuck loeb plz 🥺
do you have some exercises to practice that swing feel on your lines?
Always listen to the ride cymbal. That's the center of the universe.
Another amazing video. Please PM me if it's possible to buy transcriptions directly. :)
So what’s the parent scale if using Arps of Amin Bmin and CMaj7?
Those arpeggios can be derived from the parent G Major scale.
Wow! So great! Is this backing available? Thanks!
Thanks Joshua, I'm considering posting a backing track soon!
Gregg Fine Guitar and so, what do I need to do to convince you to?
@@greggfineguitar Have you posted a Backing Track in Am? Thanks and i love all your videos!
@@markzucco9252 Thanks Mark! I'm preparing some new content for the channel and will include backing tracks as part of that list.
@@greggfineguitar Sounds great! Let me know when the Backing Tracks are available ?
como adquirir tus transcripciones en pdf?
Hi Esteban, no pdf but you can view the full transcription at the end of the video. Thanks for watching!
Real reason is - going to a parallel key
