The first single release from Tropica’s debutalbum “Is This The Only Life I Know” is called “No Explosions”. The song deals with the conception that gathering experience desensitizes us in a way, that the same amount of fascination felt when doing something for the first time, cannot be re- experienced. Every person’s journey is built upon experiences and brings along a certain comfort of knowing what awaits, but also the numbness of knowing what’s to come. “No Explosions” is a cry out for remembering what excitement and fascination feel like and that the right people will make you feel alive again. Go overboard, forget who is watching.
Contrasting Tropica’s psych-pop style, “No Explosions” just felt right with a bit more of a punky edge to it. The monotonous vocals in the verse, questioning the dullness of heart, lead into a heartfelt 60’s ballad style chorus and with it, the cry out for wanting to feel intensely again. The listener is supposed to reminisce and conclude “Hey, I am still that same person that I use to tell stories about nowadays” and let loose as the song explodes into the bridge.
