I love both cities in different ways, as someone who does live in Rotterdam though, I have to say I have a soft spot for the city. :) Who else here is a Rotterdammer?
One thing isnt said in the video: the mindset is completely different. Rotterdammers are very hard working and always honest. Rotterdam is also the city with the most cultures, i believe there are over 200 cultures living in Rotterdam. As a Rotterdamer, i can say that we view amsterdam much like selfish people. Amsterdammers care way to much about themselves and less for others. Idk how to say in english but personally i think that Amsterdammers erg uit te hoogte zijn. Maybe the reason why they have iAmsterdam and we have weRotterdam (not official btw). The best thing about Rotterdam is Witte de Withstraat, centrum, idd pannekoekenstraat is wel leuk maar meer voor de unieke winkeltjes, Biergarten & Annabel. Oh and not to forget the metro system. Oh and Joey, you gotta wait another 7 years to see the Boijmans museum. They are under construction.
I've spent longer times in both Amsterdam and Rotterdam. And the thing about Rotterdam is that nearly their whole identity is that they're not Amsterdam. It's truly sad. Why not just be happy with your own city without constantly feeling you need to measure up. (I mean they felt it was necessary to put down Amsterdam everytime after they praised Rotterdam) Meanwhile Amsterdam never even thinks about Rotterdams existence. And the whole 'niet lullen maar poetsen' thing isn't true. Rotterdammers love lullen and gossiping. And projects don't get done faster in Rotterdam either. Building projects even take a lot longer. And the whole 'arrogant' thing is because Amsterdammers consider it the best city in the country, no contest. Your post is basically what every Rotterdammer would say whenever the two cities are compared 'well they are arrogant and we are **wonderful, hard-working not self-ass-kissing at all** and have these attractions' (see how hypocritical that comes aross?). Well, looking at the statistics, can you blame them? Amsterdam by far has the most things to do, best shopping, best dining, some of the most beautiful historic as well as large new hip districts. Rotterdam is cool too and certainly has things Amsterdam hasn't (like the largest port, a city-covering metro network and a dope looking bridge), but in your post you've already listed all the highlights. They're just a lot less in numbers. Also many Dutch people think the fact Amsterdam gets the most attention in the media somehow reflects on its 'arrogant' citizens.. but it's pretty normal for the biggest city of a country to get the most amount of attention. The citizens certainly didn't ask for it. We're not against the next rom-com movie to be set in.. I don't know.. Deventer.. next, but that's not our decision to make.
MrAronymous I’m not sure you’re completely objective here. Many folks living in other areas would argue that Amsterdam citizens tend to be ‘aloof’. Amsterdam has so much wonderful shops etc. that one doesn’t even need to leave the city... so folks can get trapped in their little A’dam bubble. Anyway this is all a matter of opinion, so it is actually okay to be biased. Discussions like this one will never be decided one way or the other. 😉
As someone who lives in the east (op het platteland), to me Amsterdam is tourists and Rotterdam is loud people that talk to me even though I don't want to :p (But sometimes thats nice)
I live in Amsterdam, my sister in Rotterdam. I like both cities & don't feel the rivalry. Maybe because I wasn't born in Amsterdam or Rotterdam, so I can be completely objective ;) I do think there's a different vibe in each city, but that's not a bad thing. Just visit both cities, they each have beautiful museums, architecture, restaurants & other places to hang out.
Oh he would totally nail that! I have actually dreamt of Joey doing Michael Bublé like singing on a bigband playing, not sure why, as I have never heard him sing, but when he talks his voice and intonation sounds like he could do well.
I love Amsterdam, was born and raised here. But I like Rotterdam too! Only been there a few times but I really liked the vibe, I found it very 'urban' and metropolitan, very different from Amsterdam! I can't wait to go there (after Corona) and explore it a bit further. :)
Team Rotterdam, sry. It's not overrun w/tourists is a top reason. Room to breathe. Boijman's is closed right now because they're doing something really innovative in the museum world. They're building the Depot, which will be the only fully accessible museum archive in the world. Any museum you go to only ever shows a tiny percentage of its collection, but at the Depot, you will be able to access Boijman's entire collection at any time. The build itself will is pretty cool as well, like a giant reflective ball, mirroring the city.
Right....so A'dam vs R'dam. Very dangerous. As a born Rotterdamse with relatives near Amsterdam, I say to each his own. Amsterdam is old, breathes history but is also overrun by tourists. And it feels so stressed to me. Rotterdam has more modern architecture, because well no choice really since the bombing in WWII destroyed pretty much everything. It also feels less stressed, but that could just be me. Do you have nicknames in Amsterdam for prominent features/buildings? Because in Rotterdam they are very good at giving nicknames. Like de Koopgoot (Beurstraverse), het Potlood (Blaaktoren), de Zwaan (Erasmusbrug), Jan Gat (commemorative statue WWII by Zadkine) and kabouter Buttplug (Santa Claus) to name a few 😁.
HI Joey. It is impossible to compare those two cities. Amsterdam is all about old times. Rotterdam was bombed out during WWII and had the opportunitiy to build from scratch. This meant that a lot of experimenting has gone on. During the 60's and 70's Rotterdam was literally a 'stad zonder hart'. Luckily a lot of effort and thought has gone into making the stad a place where there is a cultural life and the opportunity for modern living. But these things have not come about organically, it has been achieved by tryal and error. Now I am a very proud Rotterdammer, and I would never want to live anywhere else. But the experience of visiting the two cities cannot be compared. What do you want to experience: Eeuwen oude smalle straten, grachten die stinken, opstoppingen en duur parkeren en nog veel duurder wonen. (Sorry, I could not get this is English, too involved on the subject). It has been and will forever be a big controversy.
You can’t compare and don’t need to choose between these completely different vibrant cities. In your next visits to Rotterdam put these must do’s on your list, for starters: Hotel New York (you can take a water taxi from HNY over the river Maas, under the Erasmus bridge to the Markthal...epic ride); the SS Rotterdam (former cruise vessel now hotel/restaurant/bar); Aloha bar (former pool paradise now restaurant with Maas view); De Kunsthal (Modern Art museum, building designed by Rem Koolhaas 🙌🏻)....etc. and more. Njoy!
I personally like Amsterdam way more than Rotterdam. I feel like Rotterdam just does'nt have the vibe Amsterdam has. And tbh I find Rotterdam quite ugly hahaha

Hi everyone! 🧡 After watching this video I thought maybe I should ask you something... This year I’m finishing my master’s degree in medical biology (still don’t know if I want to do exactly this kind of job like for the rest of my life...) in Poland and I decided to move to the Netherlands (my dad used to live and work there when I was kid/teenager). There's good and bad things about both cities, but if i had to choose i would pick Amsterdam over Rotterdam. Team Rotterdam! Rotterdam is more metropolitan, diverse, happening, interesting, new and more new stuff every year. Amsterdam is nice, but you are happy to leave after a day or two. What I dislike about Amsterdam too much weed, more dirty and vomit, too many tourists, arrogant people, aggressive bicycle drivers. My experience. People make Amsterdam shitty, that would otherwise be more enjoyable without peoples disgusting behaviour. P.S. People in Rotterdam are more attractive looking. :)

That is the best hotel you can book for new years eve, to watch the fireworks, but there is a waiting list for a few years,LOL...But that is something i really wanna do some day..It's a bucket list thing..Kinda.. And new years in Sidney also a bucket list thing. I love de witte de witstraat and years years ago (when i was hot, single and young) i went to the gay palace..Don't know if it still exist but that was a great club back then. But what it comes down to is that home is where the heart is....right? 😘
And don’t forget if you have to park your car in Amsterdam you pay almost a week salary. Amsterdam is on spot nr1 of most expensive parking costs of the world!!😳
So typical that the majority of reactions to this video are in faver of Rotterdam. Instead of acknowledging that both cities are ok and beautiful (but different) residents of Rotterdam choose to be hung up on this victim role (slachtofferrol). Always wining "Oh, Feyenoord isn't mentioned as mouvch in some newspaper etc etc...". Some years ago Feynood (succer team from R'dam) became natonal champion and allthough I'm pro Ajax (from A'dam) and I was glad fot them (rather them than PSV hhh). Grow up everybody! Quess where I'm from? Born and raised in Amsterdam, but now living in the city of Amersfoort (next in line?).
Addendum There is one drawback for Rotterdam. It isn't Brabant or Limurg. If you want 'gezellig' Brabant beats Holland. Tilburg, Breda, Den Bosch and even Eindhoven win that contest. But by far the nicest place to be is the centre of Maastricht. Ah well, just and opinion from one who lives in Eindhoven. 😎😉
@@JoeyJaq That's nice :D I lived in Eindhoven for a while and went to school there.. I believe in America it's called middle school :) Have lived in America for a year as daughter of an expat... I loved it
When I started to watch this video i was like.....ohhhh bitch are you coming for my city? But it was cute! You really looked at it from both sides. Rotterdam isn't gezellig. But to be honest neather is Amsterdam. Totally different atmosfere, different live- styles, different way of thinking. I love Rotterdam, and will prob never leave but recently i also started to love (did I just say that) Amsterdam. Love your videos and keep the entertainment going! 😘
@@rachelscott7348 I'd say that's because Amsterdam is more bicycle friendly. It's safer for cyclists, so the cyclists can do whatever they want. You just can't do that in Rotterdam. You'd die.
I also had to laugh at Shisha's comments about dutch in Rotterdam and English in Amsterdam, my partner is dutch, so speaks dutch, but I am a brit and my dutch is terrible, there always seems to be confusion in Amsterdam in shops and bars that one speaks dutch and the other one dosen't really, but that has never been an issue in Rotterdam.
Be very careful with this video title,...don't make any sudden moves or big hand gestur... 0:02 ahh too late, everybody run. No,...everybody is on their own, loved your channel Joey, i will remember you fondly,...bye💨.

😘
Yes home is where the heart is!!!
Team Amsterdam!!
And don’t forget if you have to park your car in Amsterdam you pay almost a week salary. Amsterdam is on spot nr1 of most expensive parking costs of the world!!😳
Hahahah yes that parking is EXPENSIVE!!!
Rotterdam is beyond that victim role. Maybe you are still stuck in time. Rotterdam has never been this self confident and proud.
Rotterdam is also a old city by the way
Groningen ❤
Team R!!!!
I lived and worked in Rotterdam for 1,5 year, and i dont like that city, sorry i was glad that i could move again.
Kind of hope Leeuwarden will pass by :)
Team Amsterdam....my mom was an amsterdammer.❤❤
Addendum
There is one drawback for Rotterdam. 😎😉
I want to do Eindhoven as well, it will come soon! ❤️
@@JoeyJaq That's nice :D I lived in Eindhoven for a while and went to school there.. I believe in America it's called middle school :) Have lived in America for a year as daughter of an expat... I loved it
You’re legend do even nor-f-ing normal and iedereen even ABONEAR-oh! Love you 😍
Hahah thanks babe ❤️
Wow shisha cute
Yasssssssss
#teamRotterdam
amsterdam is top tier
sterker door strijd rotterdam altijd!!!
Amazing!! So good to read your opinion...so pleasant! ❤️❤️
The food in De markthal is lekker!!!! All the food!
I would agree with Shisha the bikers are nicer in Rotterdam than Amsterdam!!!!
@@rachelscott7348 I'd say that's because Amsterdam is more bicycle friendly. It's safer for cyclists, so the cyclists can do whatever they want. You just can't do that in Rotterdam. You'd die.
@@David_Apollonius Oh I know!!!
Rotterdam also has Donner Bookshop where Amsterdam only has a Waterstones!
Hi Joey! Thanks for your video on Rotterdam! The most beautiful city in the Netherlands 😍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Team Rotterdam 🤣👍🏽
Eeeehm henny, nothing beats DEN HAAG
#subscribed 😉
Hahah ♥️
Amsterdam. Echt man.. come on!
Omg Shainaaaaa.. hahahaha..
Rotterdam, wat is dat?
Hahahahah
Be very careful with this video title,...don't make any sudden moves or big hand gestur... 0:02 ahh too late, everybody run.
No,...everybody is on their own, loved your channel Joey, i will remember you fondly,...bye💨.
Hahahahah
@@JoeyJaq xD.
No dislikes (:
Tuurlijk is R'dam velemaal beter!
