Back in the 60’s it was Sea n Ski to get the tan, even slathered in baby oil. If we had SPF anything then it might have saved my skin now.

what you say is not entirely correct. about the difference in percentages it is not true that it is a total scam. what is the difference between spf 50 and 30 is the length of protection. spf 50 protects you 50 times your personal burning time. so this is also personal, imagine on a sunny day that you burn within 10 minutes. then your spf 30 sunscreen gives you 30*10=300 minutes of protection and for spf 50 this is 50*10=500 minutes. so that is a big difference. if you look at spf 20 you will see big differences in percentage protection btw

This is false. Let's say there are 100 billion photons entering your body every second per square inch. With spf 30, you are blocking 97 billion, but with spf 50, you are blocking 1 billion more. And do that math for your entire body, and this definitely adds up.
