Marvellous video. I bought two of these communicators light years ago. One works. So now armed with the knowledge you have brilliantly conveyed I’m off to buy a new battery and a torque screwdriver. Thanks, Simon

Thank you! A commentor named Knights down below mentioned about getting the right size battery replacement off eBay I don’t know if that helps, the one I used in the video was just a tad fat lol
I’m glad I did something that can help

Thanks. I rejuvenated the original battery by forcing current back through it from a variable DC power supply with current limit. Done of course with the battery connector removed. Very fine wires were needed to poke into the two connector holes on the end of the battery flying lead. Then carefully raised the dc supply to around 4.5 volts whilst keeping the current in to the battery to about 250mA. The battery is rated at 250mAh so I didn’t want to shove more than about 1C into it. The battery voltage slowly increased and at 4.2 Volts I put it back in the communicator. It’s now fine. Lipo batteries can sometimes be brought back by this Lazarus method but don’t leave the process unattended & keep the current limit down. Thanks for your vid again.

Stuck on Planet Vulcan for 25 earth years. Unable to beam up. Appreciate the help in repairing my communicator. Waiting for the delivery of my new battery now. Live long and prosper.🖖

😆. I hope you got the right one. The one I found was just a smidge too thick even though it fit I worry about it even though the communicator has been working just fine since this video.
I guess there’s a specific one that is the exact same size, but I never found it. Someone may have commented about it.
I hope you get off Vulcan before some alternate universe Romulan blows it up.

Awesome. Good quality audio. Other TH-camrs should take a note.

My battery still works as I regularly charge it. Thanks for the explanation on the magnets and I have taken many, many things apart before! Good comic relief! I had a few giggles! I have filed this away for future reference! Cheers!

There's a guy selling the batteries, with the proper connector, on eBay for like $24. Got one, replaced it, works like a charm!

You know those batteries can explode if punctured or split open... ha. My heart was quickening when I thought you were going to 'compress' the battery in the bench vice! Haha

Ha ha luckily they’re not super squished in there and like I said it’s not the best design in the world.
I have a known to do pretty dumb things but I did not compress the battery in the vice, ... this time... 😅

Perfect. You can find the exact replacement 382527 batteries on ebay, but the pirates on there are charging a fortune for them. I picked up 2 x 502030 (3.7v 250mAh) batteries for less than a third of the price. They were so cheap that I bought 2 to make it worthwhile.
Needless to say the replacement was easy and the communicator works like new.
