I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but if you make the config read only before making changes to video option ingame, those options will revert back once you restart the game hence the config being read only. I would suggest making the video options first and then doing the config file.
I pinned this comment because this has been mentioned before, and you should set to Read Only, after your settings in game are set. Also, HLL has a tendency to reset your keybindings at random, so best to keep as Read Only to prevent this. Another tip, is you can have the properties open with the Read Only box visible, and make your changes in game, and set to Read Only, instantly after, instead of restarting the game.

WOW!!! Running a 3080 and was getting 50-60 FPS on 1440p epic settings. Was sort of annoyed. Did all the steps up until minute 8 because I could not find the HLL file in users. Then finished with the in game settings. I am now getting 95-115 FPS. This is amazing thank you so much!!!!!
You're welcome! The HLL.exe is in a folder called App Data. This is a hidden file, so in the top of the window, you can check a box to show hidden files. Then App Data folder should be visible. I hope that's the part you're referring to.
pro tip guys: If you have like 100fps and still got lags when it droped like 80-60fps go to steam settings and set off steam overlay, no thanks but i hope this little trick helped you get more hll experience! :)

Thanks for the comment! Was this just the other day? This game can benefit from knowledgeable players, and jumping in as SL day 1 is a strategy that everyone would disagree with. I want people to enjoy the game, and the probability that you will return to HLL after playing SL as a level 1 is very rare. I didn't play as SL until I ranked up Support and Engineer to level 10. While I wish I had a huge collection of games, the only ones I currently have are BF2042, which I rarely play. Battlebit, which can probably run on an Apple smart watch. Squad/Squad 44, which Squad 44 might be a decent one to do, as it seems to suffer from a high frame rate like HLL. I have browsed Steam during the winter sale, and I've been hesitant to pull the trigger on any games. Ready or Not was gonna be my go to, but it's not on sale. 6 Days in Fallujah might be a good option. Whats your thoughts on this?

this guide is certainly useful, but unfortunately not for me... I have followed all the steps and the game continues to stutter even with the minimum resolution (I go at around 40 fps and every 5/6 seconds it makes a shot that drops below 3/4 fps before I went to around 30fps but always trying those shots) I don't understand why given that my PC meets all the average requirements. If anyone knows how to help me I would be grateful
@@marcomartino24 That GPU is holding you back, so to get the most out of it, you need to use lowest settings, community taa, SSAO and motion blur off. Which your settings might already be like that. I assume you're running low on VRAM, so in the only thing you can really do is, Open AMD Radeon Settings or control center. Select Preferences, then Radeon Additional Settings. Expand Power and click Switchable Graphics Global Settings. Select High performance for the Graphic Setting. This should help with frames in the 1% lows. But since that card is more comparable to a 1650 super, achieving a constant 60 fps in this game is gonna be tough. This might not be the route you want to go, but I would update that card to something more powerful to accommodate that cpu. Like a 1080 for $100, or a 1080ti for about $180. The 1080 ti will be a bit more future proof VRAM wise, and for 1080p gaming it should be plenty in anything but UE5 games.
@@TwinCityShredder I have already overclocked my Vram, I think that getting a new GPU is the only way... It's strange because in much more demanding games like Red dead redemption 2 online it runs smoothly at 60 fps with medium settings. It's just with HLL that goes shit.

Many players already have their settings finalized. So it doesn't matter where it is, as long as people understand why it's being done. But I guess I could have left it out of there completely. But I didn't want players losing their config. Glad this config helped you out though.

I have the feeling that my game brakes after every update, is it the dx12 shaders that have to reload every map? It is very annoying, although I play on a laptop HLL is the only game with problems
@@CrustyCrusader T17 breaks the game after every update. If they mess with any shaders, which has been the case in the last 4 updates, then shaders have to recompile. Dx11 vs Dx12 just loads shaders differently but the issue is still present, although more noticeable with dx12.
You're welcome! The new map is running pretty bad for people, and with a 1060, you might have frame drops when ADS. Hopefully this gets fixed soon, but it can ever upgrade that 1060 to a 1080Ti, you'd be good to go for a couple years. Glad this guide helped you, and thanks for the comment.

@@SWJWS it's badly optimized unfortunately. But are both of your hard drives, SSD's? Hell let loose must be on an SSD or better, for it to run properly. A 3060 should be at least getting 75-80 fps, with dips into the 50s. Which isn't uncommon. If I were you, I would go into Nvidia control panel, and change "texture quality", to high performance. This will help keep you above 60.
Had the gamepass version and there seems no way to edit it. Just purchased the steam version and it went from 50fps to over 120 with ur settings! Thanks a lot!
Awesome! Yeah unfortunately the Gamepass version only runs in dx11, and no mods will help. I advise anyone who is gonna play this game alot, to just get it on steam.
This will help a ton. I used to use a 1660 Super, and you should be able to maintain a low of 60 fps, with medium settings, community TAA. Turn off motion blur and Ambient Occlusion/SSAO.
I guarantee it works. With your setup, you are GPU bound. so Instead of using High Quality for Texture Filtering in Nvidia 3D settings, use High Performance. Also you can experiment with Low Latency Mode, to get a couple more frames. I wouldn't use Low settings in-game. I would High settings, with Shadows on Medium, and Post Processing on Medium. with Community TAA.
@@getabagbrick1444 everyone's ping doubled after U13.5 when T17 added backend analytics. What also sucks, is how much the ping fluctuates throughout a match. Makes shooting very inconsistent. Not sure if they'll ever fix it completely. What you can do to help your ping is download your network card driver from the manufacturer, instead of from your motherboard vendor. This will help, but only a little bit, but will also help a tiny bit in the hit reg/packet loss department.
If this was Call of Duty then I would leave it on. As the cheats available for COD are extensive, and some cheats can retrieve anyone's information. Leave it on if you wish.

VRR in Windows is technically for games that do not naturally support it. HLL does support it though ever since U9 when they updated to Unreal Engine 4.27. Older Hardware may not support it natively either, so test this and use whatever works best. If you have an AMD card then I would test with this on, but NVidia supports G-Sync which you should use instead so the scaling is controlled by the monitor, not the GPU, as this will create input lag.
Thanks bud. Just a quick tip, I realized 2 days ago that putting shadows on medium reduces stutters a ton. The next HLL update is supposed to address the stutters even more.
Adding DX12 will force the GPU to rerender the shaders again. This happens because unreal engine loads shaders as you play. Not a big deal. Over time it will smooth out. DX12 isn't perfect either. You get an uplift in fps, but micro stutter is a factor. ADS stutter has been an issue in the game for years, and as mentioned above, should resolve itself over time. Stallingrad and other maps need more optimization and is the game at fault. Keep me updated. We can try some other things if that's not the main issue at play. For example, play SME, a full match, then switch servers and play another match on SME, is the problem still there, better, or gone?

ive listened to the .ini part of this video i think 8 times and i still am so confused. how are my setting in the word doc being saved? do i just type them in and then go into the game and set everything to what i want and then come back out and check read only again?
If the file says "READ ONLY" then your settings will not save in the .ini file. For you to be able to save your changed values in the .ini file, in the properties, "READ ONLY" must be unchecked. Step 1. Get your settings how you want them in HLL, CLOSE HLL. Step 2: Uncheck "READ ONLY" in .ini properties. Step 3: Open .ini file with NOTEPAD (DO NOT USE Microsoft WORD) Step 4: Change values Step 5: Click "FILE", then click "SAVE", then close Notepad Step 6: Check box to "READ ONLY" in the .ini properties This part can be confusing, but that should lay it out for you.

@@solidsnake-gy3rw I see. I just assumed the game was running terrible, so there's not much to lose. If you are referring to the .in files. Then we are only making sure, the in game benchmark hasn't locked you to 60fps or lower than your PC can actually push. In reality, if you can make it to the "delete movies folder" section, you can stop there. It's an easy guide to follow, and nothing will break. After you use the dx12 steam launch option, the game has to reload all shaders. Unreal Engine loads shaders as you play, so you "will" experience shuttering until you play each map. These tweaks will give you significantly better fps, and modifying the usersettings.ini, won't damage anything. The damage has actually already happened, by the game limiting your fps. Using dx12 will net significantly more fps, and if the .ini file, was benchmarked for dx11 (which it is) then you will not get the benefits of the guide. The game only benchmarks the very first time you launch it. Then locks you to that initial config. Multiple times, I've updated the game and saw my benchmark locked to 60fps. Which is what we are trying to avoid.
Sorry for the late reply, but if you do not have a driver available for your monitor, then just proceed through the guide. Some monitors do not need a driver, usually HDMI monitors. Display Port monitors usually have a color profile or something relative to G-Sync/Free Sync, which requires a driver.
hello i have a ryzen 9 5900hx and rtx 3050 ti.... will these work for me? my lowest fps is 35 and occasional dips to 25. but i average 45 fps. ill try these out.
I assume this is a laptop? Yes this will work for you. I have a 4080 and still get dips in fps, and some maps are worse, like Ramagen. But another person commented and had a 3050ti, and was able to maintain 70 fps or so.

I assume Alt-Z is for Nvidia Overlay? I don't use shadow play but this website has the process to fix the issue. www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/solved-geforce-overlay-not-working/ Nothing in the video should have disabled that. As it's a very common shortcut for many different software. So I would search in Shadow Play.
This helped me so much i went from 10-30 fps to 40-100 fps i still have strong lag spikes sometimes if someone has a way to fix the lag spikes please tell me definitely worth a sub 👍
The game had lag spikes, which is caused by Origin Rebasing. This cannot be fixed by us and must be adjusted by the devs. I am working on a video to lower latency which will help if your PC is the cause of stutters and lag though.
This game has terrible optimization. It's been an issue for a very long time. Even at 1080p on PS5, I couldn't maintain 60fps. What needs to happen is the devs at T17, need to rebuild many assets and lower the triangle count. The thing is, that nobody enjoys doing that, so it will be done over time, with the most common assets done first. This could take years, so I'd recommend building a PC, if you really see yourself spending hundreds of hours in HLL.

The App Data folder is a hidden folder that is unhidden in the folder options at the top right of that window. It will be in the C: drive. As for the blurry aspect, can you tell me what you changed? Because nothing in my video makes things worse.

I would assume a gaming laptop would have some sort of monitor driver. Even if it's just a driver for a high refresh rate or color .icm profile. This will depend on the laptop, but checking the manufacturer website would be the first place I'd check.

Yes. Should be good to go. I don't use epic anymore, except for View Distance. Everything else is set to High, and Shadows to Low to help reduce stutters. I do miss playing on Epic though.
I use windowed borderless. I supposed full screen is fine too. Back in the day, alt-tab would cause crashes. So people used borderless to avoid it, but I assume that's been worked. So use whichever suits you best. You have to uncheck read-only, make your changes, then recheck read-only. Otherwise every restart will revert to old settings.
Which section are you referring to? Should use the Shipping.exe You can do a search on your PC to find it. If it's in a hidden folder, unhide in folder options, in any window.
I've followed everything in your guide (and a million others) it hasn't helped the constant stuttering at all, got any advice? My PC is about the same specs as yours. I think I give up at this point I've spent so many months trying to get this game to work but the devs just refuse to do anything about it, update 14 didnt do anything I doubt anything in the future will either :/ its literally impossible to be immersed in this game it sucks
There was 2 things from back in the day that really helped stutters but they don't work anymore. There was some old drivers from NVidia, I think they were Driver 442. Which then you'd have to download NVidia inspector to unlock "Silk Smoothness" in the Control Panel, which negated all stutters. I really wish NVidia would bring this back, as it helped in many games. Another was to add a line to the Steam Launch Options. -malloc=system . Which made the game use the Windows Memory allocator. Not sure why this doesn't work anymore, but it's a shame that the devs have released another buggy update, with a map that;s worse than Stalingrad.

@@TwinCityShredder I still get stuttering when playing HLL. Intel 10900K and RTX 3080 10GB. Fps is fluctuate between 80 to 180 depends on the map. I also tried msi afterburner and set the fps to a limit like 120 but it didnt work. Have you experienced similar issues and do you know any solution?
If you are referring to the "App Data" folder, by default Windows hides this. Got to the top of any folder, click "View" and click the check box "Hidden Items" on the right pane.
I've been trolling with that for a while now, and you're part of the few who've noticed. It's just exe's to clear up the folder for easier viewing. I have hundreds of install files, and this grew exponentially when making the Latency video. So there is multiple pron folders now. Bookmarks are the way to go, haha.
Only a creators update can change these settings, or a reinstall of a GPU driver. Which settings to be exact are left to be determined. I guess it's better to update windows before the tweaks, but I assume you should be ok. If something has changed, I will try to help you work past it.

@@Hugo.StPierre The 3060 mobile GPU is a GA106, which is the same Die as the full size 3050. So expect performance to be similar, but if you have 8GB VRAM, then expect a little more fps. Hell Let Loose will run on a 3050, but you may experience dips into the high 30's Using a g-sync monitor, usually has a variable refresh rat between 48hz, and 165hz. You might experience screen tearing here and there, so I would use the lowest settings in game. The in-game settings I would use are: Low Low Community TAA Off Low High or Epic View Distance Medium Medium Off Off
@@Hugo.StPierre HDMI is the limitation for 144hz. Need to use Displayport for 165. 144hz will be just fine, it's the 1% lows in HLL that will be more concerning.
Yes, but only the ones I mention are the ones that matter. The ones mentioned refer directly to the first time you launch the game and the benchmark it runs. That's what can limit your framerate right off the bat.

App Data may be a hidden folder. If you've made this folder visible, and can't find the User Config.ini then I would do a search to see where steam installed your games. As the game will not run without this file. So I know it's somewhere. Let me know.
Monitor for a specific OS? Never heard of that. I assume it's a 1080p 60hz monitor, with no driver support. If so, then just carry on, but use V-Sync in game.
Hell yeah dude! That's awesome! 4K has to look pretty good in HLL. I used a 4K screen for a short period of time, Neo G7, but had to go back to 1440p, as a TN panel just didn't look very nice compared to an IPS panel, and that Neo G7 for some reason had issues and corrupted my hard drive after being plugged in overnight, and my other monitor connected at the same time would not post a signal. It was strange.
My guide should help you. The new map Mortain is bugged when ADS. With a 2070, using my guide, you should get about 80-90. With dips into the 60s. Some other maps like Ramagen it can dip to the 20's. In game settings with a 2070, I would use Medium, community TAA, epic view distance, ssao off, motion blur off, and FOV of 100+. In Nvidia 3d settings, I would select texture quality and turn it to "high performance".
@@gannman51 post your specs. When you switch to dx12 the game has to reload all the shaders in the game. Unreal engine loads shaders as you play. With that said, you have to see all assets in the game and over time it will go away. Very few people had major stuttering after the guide. If you are playing ramagen, hurtgen, or Stalingrad, they have always had stutters and that's server/game code related.
For some reason, i get best FPS with my GTX1070 with Motion Blur OFF and everything else on epic BUT Shadow and effect quality on low. Maybe somebody finds this helpful. Cheers! (+ windowed fullscreen so my discord keybinds work)

That was 2 years ago though, and it was tough back then to stay above 60fps. Especially during bombing runs. I wonder what the Intel GPU's can do for this game.

It didn't do anything? I find that hard to believe. Every single PC I've done these tweaks too has helped tremendously. Night and day difference. Clearly you didn't think this tutorial was gonna fix a broken game? As I did explain what the intention was for each step. As far as the devs fixing things, I spoke those same words in a video a long while back. This goes for all the online tutorials on how to play the game better. It prevented the devs from adding a tutorial, but that is planned to change here soon. With that said, the methods in this video help in all games, since windows is one of the main issues with gaming performance, and at a minimum gives the user a chance to mitigate these issues to a degree. What's your specs and what was your benchmark before and after. I can then try to assist further.
There is a lot of reasons for this, but with a vanilla install, the factors that really hinder the visibility and quality is, DX11, anisotropic filtering, and anti-aliasing. In the early days of HLL, not many textures were optimized to run dx12. For instance Foy used to crash with dx12. So people avoided that map, until BM fixed some things. The community TAA, was some very close settings that the community came up with by modifying the engine.ini file, but that was locked in U9, and the community TAA was added, which originally helped with visibility, stuttering, and overall beauty of the game. The community TAA isn't exactly the same as the settings we used but it's close. It's a shame how much work the community has done to ensure that new players can enjoy the same experience. But all in all, it helps people enjoy the game and stay alive a little longer.
Hahaha I know right! Some games on steam ask if you want to run dx11 or dx12 when you launch the game, but HLL does not. And I have seen many times that anytime someone has an issue with performance in the HLL Discord, the moderators always suggest going back to dx11, which doesn't work and the issues still remain, while they try to convince the user that it's their PC and not the game. The game runs poorly and nobody who developed it wants to take responsibility for it.
I completely agree. It's been a downward slope and this last update is unacceptable. I'm happy Black Matter won't be touching the game any longer, but weary of Team17 knowing what they're doing. I feel like this last update wasBllack Matter turning in their school project at the last minute and half-assing it. And while I'm happy that Team17 is putting out an update really fast, I'm very suspicious that there's no announcement for a PTE before the launch. The game in its current state not only runs poorly, the hit detection and rubber banding is worse than ever. They've neutered the rifles beyond belief to the point of being almost useless, and their claims of historical accuracy is becoming a facade.

I didn't know about the rifles being nerfed, that's weird.. especially since I can get 100-200m headshots with the MP40 relatively easy. @@WantedArgonianMale I started in U7 and wish the game was still like that. I can't imagine the transformation from beta to now. The rifles are a 2 hit kill past 200 unless you have a scope. Enemies now render in at 500. Meanwhile tanks can kill you at 1000m. It's supposed to be a 1 hit kill under 200m and with the hit detection being so awful, the Kar98 or Russian rifles are basically useless up close. Slowly since U9 the rifles have basically become obsolete and you will be penalized for great marksmanship past 200m, and enemies will take 2-3 hits sometimes up close. I appreciate you taking time to watch the video and sub. Let me know how it goes.
Not sure what you are referring to. The video is in 4K and recorded at 1440p with a CQP 14 which is basically lossless, then upscaled to 4K and rendered at 80mbps. Which is a lot more bitrate than TH-cam requests for 4K. TH-cam then re-encodes the MP4 to use VP9, which helps save room on their servers, with some degradation in quality for the viewer. Sounds like the quality issue is on your end.

Are you on console? I'm just happy that in the case of HLL, on PC we have options to mitigate some of the issues with the game. Issues T17 should have already fixed. Console should be plug and play, but as you know, HLL has some major issues that cannot be corrected. I'm just happy you guys are finally gonna get a server browser.
@@blob7966 Did you not realize that good monitors have their own driver? At a minimum you will have a color profile driver. Which will help windows show proper 8bit and 10bit color profiles, and super important if you use HDR. At a maximum you will get extra software that controls everything from the reticle overlay, VRR, GSync Ultimate, and other important specs that your monitor could offer. Don't under estimate the guide. This will help you in every game you play.
You can turn up your digital vibrance 5 points for a better color palette. But yes visibility isn't great. If you play on 1440 it's better. Also if you have an older GPU, you can install Nvidia driver 4XX.00 which has an option in the 3d settings to remove film grain.
@@OldFartOnYT if you are new to the game, visibility can be a tough one to adapt to. But I did make a video a long while back called "what am I looking at", that should help train your eyes on what to see. When I play, I literally look for pixels to change color. Might take a while to adapt to that, but if you start early, you will be ahead of the game.
@@OldFartOnYT I hear ya. Not sure what FOV your using but leave it at default which is 90, as it will move things closer up. But you lose peripheral vision a bit. 100 is great, 105 is what I use. 112 and higher will fish eye things, but you'll feel faster.

(I had already done most of the things in the video myself, but still found some lines in the .ini that were useful tweaks.) This is a proper focking tutorial. what if bAnalytics isnt located in the gamesuser settings ini file? do i type it in anywhere? also in intelligent standby list cleaner, you talk about 8 and 16 gig, but you have 32. do we enter the same values you did on screen for both 8 and 16?
This has been a tried and true method, and I see alot of people in the HLL discord telling people to use DX11 to fix their issues. Which doesn't help at all.
I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but if you make the config read only before making changes to video option ingame, those options will revert back once you restart the game hence the config being read only. I would suggest making the video options first and then doing the config file.
I pinned this comment because this has been mentioned before, and you should set to Read Only, after your settings in game are set.
Also, HLL has a tendency to reset your keybindings at random, so best to keep as Read Only to prevent this.
Another tip, is you can have the properties open with the Read Only box visible, and make your changes in game, and set to Read Only, instantly after, instead of restarting the game.

WOW!!! Running a 3080 and was getting 50-60 FPS on 1440p epic settings. Was sort of annoyed. Did all the steps up until minute 8 because I could not find the HLL file in users. Then finished with the in game settings. I am now getting 95-115 FPS. This is amazing thank you so much!!!!!

This is a hidden file, so in the top of the window, you can check a box to show hidden files.
Then App Data folder should be visible.

This game can benefit from knowledgeable players, and jumping in as SL day 1 is a strategy that everyone would disagree with.
I want people to enjoy the game, and the probability that you will return to HLL after playing SL as a level 1 is very rare.
I didn't play as SL until I ranked up Support and Engineer to level 10. It's disorienting to distinguish the chat between your squad and command. It can get very hectic.

I have followed all the steps and the game continues to stutter even with the minimum resolution (I go at around 40 fps and every 5/6 seconds it makes a shot that drops below 3/4 fps before I went to around 30fps but always trying those shots) I don't understand why given that my PC meets all the average requirements. @@marcomartino24 That GPU is holding you back, so to get the most out of it, you need to use lowest settings, community taa, SSAO and motion blur off. Which your settings might already be like that.
I assume you're running low on VRAM, so in the only thing you can really do is, Open AMD Radeon Settings or control center. Select Preferences, then Radeon Additional Settings. Expand Power and click Switchable Graphics Global Settings. Select High performance for the Graphic Setting.
This should help with frames in the 1% lows.
But since that card is more comparable to a 1650 super, achieving a constant 60 fps in this game is gonna be tough.
This might not be the route you want to go, but I would update that card to something more powerful to accommodate that cpu.
Like a 1080 for $100, or a 1080ti for about $180.
The 1080 ti will be a bit more future proof VRAM wise, and for 1080p gaming it should be plenty in anything but UE5 games.
@@TwinCityShredder I have already overclocked my Vram, I think that getting a new GPU is the only way... It's strange because in much more demanding games like Red dead redemption 2 online it runs smoothly at 60 fps with medium settings. It's just with HLL that goes shit.

I have the feeling that my game brakes after every update, is it the dx12 shaders that have to reload every map? It is very annoying, although I play on a laptop HLL is the only game with problems

If they mess with any shaders, which has been the case in the last 4 updates, then shaders have to recompile.
Dx11 vs Dx12 just loads shaders differently but the issue is still present, although more noticeable with dx12.

You're welcome! The new map is running pretty bad for people, and with a 1060, you might have frame drops when ADS.
Hopefully this gets fixed soon, but it can ever upgrade that 1060 to a 1080Ti, you'd be good to go for a couple years.

Hell let loose must be on an SSD or better, for it to run properly.
A 3060 should be at least getting 75-80 fps, with dips into the 50s. Which isn't uncommon.
If I were you, I would go into Nvidia control panel, and change "texture quality", to high performance.
This will help keep you above 60.

I used to use a 1660 Super, and you should be able to maintain a low of 60 fps, with medium settings, community TAA.
Turn off motion blur and Ambient Occlusion/SSAO.

Having to run it at Low graphics settings.....
I guarantee it works. With your setup, you are GPU bound. so Instead of using High Quality for Texture Filtering in Nvidia 3D settings, use High Performance. Also you can experiment with Low Latency Mode, to get a couple more frames.
I wouldn't use Low settings in-game. I would High settings, with Shadows on Medium, and Post Processing on Medium. with Community TAA.

What also sucks, is how much the ping fluctuates throughout a match. Makes shooting very inconsistent.
Not sure if they'll ever fix it completely.
What you can do to help your ping is download your network card driver from the manufacturer, instead of from your motherboard vendor.
This will help, but only a little bit, but will also help a tiny bit in the hit reg/packet loss department.

Hey. Thank you for the detailed video. I have a question tho, does VRR not work in general or just for you? Cuz for me, it seems to be working on my monitor
VRR in Windows is technically for games that do not naturally support it. HLL does support it though ever since U9 when they updated to Unreal Engine 4.27. Older Hardware may not support it natively either, so test this and use whatever works best.
If you have an AMD card then I would test with this on, but NVidia supports G-Sync which you should use instead so the scaling is controlled by the monitor, not the GPU, as this will create input lag.

Doubled my FPS but something is causing stuttering when aiming quickly
Adding DX12 will force the GPU to rerender the shaders again.
This happens because unreal engine loads shaders as you play.
Not a big deal. Over time it will smooth out.
DX12 isn't perfect either. You get an uplift in fps, but micro stutter is a factor.
ADS stutter has been an issue in the game for years, and as mentioned above, should resolve itself over time.
Stallingrad and other maps need more optimization and is the game at fault.
Keep me updated.
We can try some other things if that's not the main issue at play.
For example, play SME, a full match, then switch servers and play another match on SME, is the problem still there, better, or gone?

ive listened to the .ini part of this video i think 8 times and i still am so confused. how are my setting in the word doc being saved? do i just type them in and then go into the game and set everything to what i want and then come back out and check read only again?

If the file says "READ ONLY" then your settings will not save in the .ini file.
For you to be able to save your changed values in the .ini file, in the properties, "READ ONLY" must be unchecked.
Step 1. Get your settings how you want them in HLL, CLOSE HLL.
Step 2: Uncheck "READ ONLY" in .ini properties.
Step 3: Open .ini file with NOTEPAD (DO NOT USE Microsoft WORD)
Step 4: Change values
Step 5: Click "FILE", then click "SAVE", then close Notepad
Step 6: Check box to "READ ONLY" in the .ini properties
This part can be confusing, but that should lay it out for you.

This is a new issue with the game unfortunately. Update 14 really screwed the pooch, as thousands of people have had this happen.

If you are referring to the .in files. Then we are only making sure, the in game benchmark hasn't locked you to 60fps or lower than your PC can actually push.
In reality, if you can make it to the "delete movies folder" section, you can stop there.
It's an easy guide to follow, and nothing will break.
After you use the dx12 steam launch option, the game has to reload all shaders. Unreal Engine loads shaders as you play, so you "will" experience shuttering until you play each map.
These tweaks will give you significantly better fps, and modifying the usersettings.ini, won't damage anything.
The damage has actually already happened, by the game limiting your fps.
Using dx12 will net significantly more fps, and if the .ini file, was benchmarked for dx11 (which it is) then you will not get the benefits of the guide.
The game only benchmarks the very first time you launch it. Then locks you to that initial config.
Multiple times, I've updated the game and saw my benchmark locked to 60fps. Which is what we are trying to avoid.

Sorry for the late reply, but if you do not have a driver available for your monitor, then just proceed through the guide.
Some monitors do not need a driver, usually HDMI monitors.
Display Port monitors usually have a color profile or something relative to G-Sync/Free Sync, which requires a driver.
hello i have a ryzen 9 5900hx and rtx 3050 ti.... will these work for me? my lowest fps is 35 and occasional dips to 25. but i average 45 fps. ill try these out.

But another person commented and had a 3050ti, and was able to maintain 70 fps or so.

Nothing in the video should have disabled that. As it's a very common shortcut for many different software. So I would search in Shadow Play.

The game had lag spikes, which is caused by Origin Rebasing. This cannot be fixed by us and must be adjusted by the devs.
I am working on a video to lower latency which will help if your PC is the cause of stutters and lag though.

This game has terrible optimization.
It's been an issue for a very long time.
Even at 1080p on PS5, I couldn't maintain 60fps.
What needs to happen is the devs at T17, need to rebuild many assets and lower the triangle count.
The thing is, that nobody enjoys doing that, so it will be done over time, with the most common assets done first.
This could take years, so I'd recommend building a PC, if you really see yourself spending hundreds of hours in HLL.

The App Data folder is a hidden folder that is unhidden in the folder options at the top right of that window.
It will be in the C: drive.

I would assume a gaming laptop would have some sort of monitor driver. Even if it's just a driver for a high refresh rate or color .icm profile.
This will depend on the laptop, but checking the manufacturer website would be the first place I'd check.

Yes. Should be good to go. I don't use epic anymore, except for View Distance. Everything else is set to High, and Shadows to Low to help reduce stutters. I do miss playing on Epic though.

I use windowed borderless. I supposed full screen is fine too.
Back in the day, alt-tab would cause crashes. So people used borderless to avoid it, but I assume that's been worked.
So use whichever suits you best.
You have to uncheck read-only, make your changes, then recheck read-only.
Otherwise every restart will revert to old settings.
For some reason Fullscreen is working better here. (GTX 1060) some time ago windowed was better, but now FULLSCREEN stopped a lot of 'fps drops'

There was 2 things from back in the day that really helped stutters but they don't work anymore.
There was some old drivers from NVidia, I think they were Driver 442. Which then you'd have to download NVidia inspector to unlock "Silk Smoothness" in the Control Panel, which negated all stutters. I really wish NVidia would bring this back, as it helped in many games.
Another was to add a line to the Steam Launch Options. -malloc=system . Which made the game use the Windows Memory allocator.
Not sure why this doesn't work anymore, but it's a shame that the devs have released another buggy update, with a map that;s worse than Stalingrad.

@@TwinCityShredder I still get stuttering when playing HLL. Intel 10900K and RTX 3080 10GB. Fps is fluctuate between 80 to 180 depends on the map. I also tried msi afterburner and set the fps to a limit like 120 but it didnt work. Have you experienced similar issues and do you know any solution?

If you are referring to the "App Data" folder, by default Windows hides this. Got to the top of any folder, click "View" and click the check box "Hidden Items" on the right pane.

I've been trolling with that for a while now, and you're part of the few who've noticed.
It's just exe's to clear up the folder for easier viewing. I have hundreds of install files, and this grew exponentially when making the Latency video. So there is multiple pron folders now.

Only a creators update can change these settings, or a reinstall of a GPU driver.
Which settings to be exact are left to be determined.

Yes. Not sure what laptop you have, but some get better performance with a monitor plugged in.

@@Hugo.StPierre The 3060 mobile GPU is a GA106, which is the same Die as the full size 3050. So expect performance to be similar, but if you have 8GB VRAM, then expect a little more fps.
Hell Let Loose will run on a 3050, but you may experience dips into the high 30's
Using a g-sync monitor, usually has a variable refresh rat between 48hz, and 165hz.
You might experience screen tearing here and there, so I would use the lowest settings in game.

144hz will be just fine, it's the 1% lows in HLL that will be more concerning.

Yes, but only the ones I mention are the ones that matter. The ones mentioned refer directly to the first time you launch the game and the benchmark it runs. That's what can limit your framerate right off the bat.

App Data may be a hidden folder. If you've made this folder visible, and can't find the User Config.ini then I would do a search to see where steam installed your games.
As the game will not run without this file. So I know it's somewhere.

Monitor for a specific OS? Never heard of that. I assume it's a 1080p 60hz monitor, with no driver support. If so, then just carry on, but use V-Sync in game.

Hell yeah dude! That's awesome! 4K has to look pretty good in HLL. I used a 4K screen for a short period of time, Neo G7, but had to go back to 1440p, as a TN panel just didn't look very nice compared to an IPS panel, and that Neo G7 for some reason had issues and corrupted my hard drive after being plugged in overnight, and my other monitor connected at the same time would not post a signal. It was strange.
They want almost 50 fucking dollars for a game that is unplayable for most people. Absolutely ridiculous.

My guide should help you.
The new map Mortain is bugged when ADS.
With a 2070, using my guide, you should get about 80-90. With dips into the 60s.
Some other maps like Ramagen it can dip to the 20's.
In game settings with a 2070, I would use Medium, community TAA, epic view distance, ssao off, motion blur off, and FOV of 100+.
In Nvidia 3d settings, I would select texture quality and turn it to "high performance".

When you switch to dx12 the game has to reload all the shaders in the game.
Unreal engine loads shaders as you play.
With that said, you have to see all assets in the game and over time it will go away.
Very few people had major stuttering after the guide.
If you are playing ramagen, hurtgen, or Stalingrad, they have always had stutters and that's server/game code related.

Does your monitor not a driver available? Which monitor do you have? Some monitors don't have one unless you g-sync.
For some reason, i get best FPS with my GTX1070 with Motion Blur OFF and everything else on epic BUT Shadow and effect quality on low. Maybe somebody finds this helpful. Cheers! (+ windowed fullscreen so my discord keybinds work)

The only 4 core PC I've tested was a 4790 non-K. With a 1660. and 16GB RAM at 1440p.
That was 2 years ago though, and it was tough back then to stay above 60fps. Especially during bombing runs.

It Done nothing and the devs should optimize their game it's not for me to go mesing around with all that crap. people that do this give the devs an excuse not to sort their sh*t out.
It didn't do anything? I find that hard to believe. Every single PC I've done these tweaks too has helped tremendously. Night and day difference. Clearly you didn't think this tutorial was gonna fix a broken game? As I did explain what the intention was for each step.
As far as the devs fixing things, I spoke those same words in a video a long while back. This goes for all the online tutorials on how to play the game better. It prevented the devs from adding a tutorial, but that is planned to change here soon.
With that said, the methods in this video help in all games, since windows is one of the main issues with gaming performance, and at a minimum gives the user a chance to mitigate these issues to a degree.
What's your specs and what was your benchmark before and after. I can then try to assist further.
WHY IS THE QUALITY SO BAD
There is a lot of reasons for this, but with a vanilla install, the factors that really hinder the visibility and quality is, DX11, anisotropic filtering, and anti-aliasing.
In the early days of HLL, not many textures were optimized to run dx12. For instance Foy used to crash with dx12. So people avoided that map, until BM fixed some things.
The community TAA, was some very close settings that the community came up with by modifying the engine.ini file, but that was locked in U9, and the community TAA was added, which originally helped with visibility, stuttering, and overall beauty of the game.
The community TAA isn't exactly the same as the settings we used but it's close.
It's a shame how much work the community has done to ensure that new players can enjoy the same experience. But all in all, it helps people enjoy the game and stay alive a little longer.
All of this just so the game doesn't run like half dead roadkill
Hahaha I know right! Some games on steam ask if you want to run dx11 or dx12 when you launch the game, but HLL does not. And I have seen many times that anytime someone has an issue with performance in the HLL Discord, the moderators always suggest going back to dx11, which doesn't work and the issues still remain, while they try to convince the user that it's their PC and not the game.
The game runs poorly and nobody who developed it wants to take responsibility for it.
I swear this game runs worse than it used to. I'm probably averaging 50 fps on most maps

I'm happy Black Matter won't be touching the game any longer, but weary of Team17 knowing what they're doing.
I feel like this last update wasBllack Matter turning in their school project at the last minute and half-assing it.
And while I'm happy that Team17 is putting out an update really fast, I'm very suspicious that there's no announcement for a PTE before the launch.
The game in its current state not only runs poorly, the hit detection and rubber banding is worse than ever.
They've neutered the rifles beyond belief to the point of being almost useless, and their claims of historical accuracy is becoming a facade.
@@TwinCityShredder I've been playing since basically day one and picked it back up again in the past year. So yeah the hit on performance and the bugs were disappointing.
I didn't know about the rifles being nerfed, that's weird.. especially since I can get 100-200m headshots with the MP40 relatively easy.

The rifles are a 2 hit kill past 200 unless you have a scope.
Enemies now render in at 500. Meanwhile tanks can kill you at 1000m.
It's supposed to be a 1 hit kill under 200m and with the hit detection being so awful, the Kar98 or Russian rifles are basically useless up close.
Slowly since U9 the rifles have basically become obsolete and you will be penalized for great marksmanship past 200m, and enemies will take 2-3 hits sometimes up close.

Not sure what you are referring to. The video is in 4K and recorded at 1440p with a CQP 14 which is basically lossless, then upscaled to 4K and rendered at 80mbps. Which is a lot more bitrate than TH-cam requests for 4K. TH-cam then re-encodes the MP4 to use VP9, which helps save room on their servers, with some degradation in quality for the viewer.
Sounds like the quality issue is on your end.

Are you on console? I'm just happy that in the case of HLL, on PC we have options to mitigate some of the issues with the game. Issues T17 should have already fixed.
Console should be plug and play, but as you know, HLL has some major issues that cannot be corrected.

At a minimum you will have a color profile driver. Which will help windows show proper 8bit and 10bit color profiles, and super important if you use HDR.
At a maximum you will get extra software that controls everything from the reticle overlay, VRR, GSync Ultimate, and other important specs that your monitor could offer.
Don't under estimate the guide. This will help you in every game you play.
My FPS is good, but I'm usually dead before I can even see an enemy! The visibility is just lousy!
You can turn up your digital vibrance 5 points for a better color palette.
But yes visibility isn't great.
If you play on 1440 it's better.
Also if you have an older GPU, you can install Nvidia driver 4XX.00 which has an option in the 3d settings to remove film grain.

But I did make a video a long while back called "what am I looking at", that should help train your eyes on what to see.
When I play, I literally look for pixels to change color.
Might take a while to adapt to that, but if you start early, you will be ahead of the game.

@@OldFartOnYT I hear ya. Not sure what FOV your using but leave it at default which is 90, as it will move things closer up. But you lose peripheral vision a bit.
100 is great, 105 is what I use. 112 and higher will fish eye things, but you'll feel faster.

Yoooooooooooooooooo, this is a good video. Basically the cream of the crop optimization video, no BS. (I had already done most of the things in the video myself, but still found some lines in the .ini that were useful tweaks.) This is a proper focking tutorial.
Highlight of this video imo is the MSI mode utility. I'd also underline that any time that you update your Gfx drivers you gotta check that box again. But yea.. most people don't know of that tweak.

what if bAnalytics isnt located in the gamesuser settings ini file? do i type it in anywhere? also in intelligent standby list cleaner, you talk about 8 and 16 gig, but you have 32. do we enter the same values you did on screen for both 8 and 16?
Banalytics was removed last update. So skip it.
ISLC RAM should set set to half of your total RAM.

This has been a tried and true method, and I see alot of people in the HLL discord telling people to use DX11 to fix their issues. Which doesn't help at all.
