While I disagree with the folks who say this "isnt climbing" (you start at the bottom and get to the top, its climbing), as somebody who's most inspired by the methodology and discipline of trad climbing, this is pretty far removed from that, and I tend to agree when people say this is closer to parkour or gymnastics than the historic practice of mountaineering or rock climbing. Still respect the hell outta her athleticism, but it's just not for me.
as Honnold said very well commenting the IFSC finals, all of them are incredibly strong. All of them would flash about every climb of a normal climbing gym.
You have to introduce skills that are not just from normal climbing.
I have to add that yeah sure you can just create mini 'burden of dreams' aka just way harder strength stuff, but it also would not look cool?? This is obviously spectacle climbing and no one would prefer to watch a competition made by a "'this is just parkour" kinda setter.
I agree, while I think this is incredibly impressive and bonkers athletic, the emphasis on dynos in comp climbing is starting to approach ninja warrior flash. And that’s not what I love about rock climbing. I love methodically trying to solve a problem, seeing someone beat an ongoing project, chatting about a boulder with my friends and being out in nature.

Theyre only saying that because the athlete is a woman.
Only yesterday, I saw a video of a man doing the exact same thing, and the comments were in absolute awe, calling him spiderman and wishing they could "climb like that".
So no-one can tell me that misogyny isnt live and well, and people are x10s more critical of women.
Guys this IS climbing for the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP of women climbing, Obviously it's not you and your 6a level in your gym. People need to understand it's the best of the best climber of the world who must be in COMPETITION. So OF COURSE it's way harder and More physical than what we are used to see. Stop spitting on a sport like climbing, even if it is becoming more and more popular, it is evolving and it is controversial.
It's not about whether it's hard. The issue is it's got nothing to do with actual rock climbing, which bouldering was supposed to be training for, you know.
@@fajastata2 Most modern climbers have never climbed on rock outdoors, though. I've only done so a few times myself.

@@fajastata2 I didn't actually give any statistics, but no I haven't ran a study, no. I'd be willing to bet good money, though, that if you asked every person in a popular bouldering gym, most of them will not have climbed outdoors much, if ever.
@@Leiska86 You said "most", which is a statistic, basically, and a made up one. Also, people at a bouldering gym do not constitute all "modern climbers", do they? And even still, I would doubt most boulderers at a climbing gym never climbed outdoors.

Short competitors are definitely at a disadvantage
Actually, climbing seems to favour shorter people, given that most top level climbers are shorter than average. There can of course be a height advantage or disadvantage in certain situations, but that’s true of all sports.

@@zenmaster1958 yes, they are, at least in women’s. Janja is one of the taller women, and she’s basically right on average height (plus or minus depending which part of the world you average over)
Also, Ai Mori is shorter and she still sends most boulders like an absolute boss

@@beckobert I don't like it, it's not very healthy for most people long term either, so no, I won't enjoy it. Even Ondra said that if it wasn't for olympics he would've quit comp climbing, because this modern "climbing" is very taxing on health. Good for springy youngsters younger than 25 lets say, then it gets too hard on body and frankly, it's just not climbing, looks more like combination of gymnastics with parkour.

Can you not tell how hard it is? It's a paddle dyno, look up men doing a three hold paddle, especially on super slopy slopers.
