I had no idea this game even existed, since no one's been talking about it. I hope they'll make an HD version of Samba de Amigo at some point as well, or maybe even a new game.
Yeah. literally no one has talked about this over the tons of other games coming out. It's a shame, but in a way I can totally see why this has flown under the radar. That would be awesome, there hasn't been a Samba game for what feels like ages!
@@MasonMiceli-nl4nf Man, has it really been over three years since I made the original comment? Time flies. But yea I can't say that I expected this to actually happen! But great to see Sega use their less popular characters! Hopefully the game manages to be good.
Sonic being in this game kinda made me realize This game is closer to a Sonic game than a Super Monkey Ball game, or even a fusion between the two series
It’s good to see some of the older music make a return as well. Most notably the monkey ball 1 extra music which was absent from deluxe. Other tracks making a return include clock tower from monkey ball 2 and under the ocean from monkey ball 2
Huh... I actually didn't notice that! Where do those tracks appear? Just in the normal levels? When I played this game for the review it was before I was familiar with the original games so I wouldn't have noticed them returning in BBHD! That's pretty cool that they brought them back though.
@@PixelPursuit outer space from monkey ball 1 is the world 7 music. clock tower is the world 7 boss music, i dont know where under the ocean appears but i did forget to mention that storm from monkey ball 1 and deluxe makes a return as the final boss music
Haha it’s very weird watching this one last, after all the other monkey ball reviews 😅 Interesting to see how your opinions have evolved, as well as your skill with the game 😊 Playing this one after BB Wii, I had a MUCH better time. Obviously the controls are a big plus, but the fact that you just go from world to world without Credits makes such a difference, and the way you carry your lives across worlds was brilliant as well 😊 BB Wii made a very grumpy man at times, so is was nice to play through this one with much less of a struggle 😅 I forgot about the “out of 10” system, definitely think the ranking system works much better 😄 Also was very jarring not hearing the comforting “byeeeeee” at the end! 🤭
Yeah, if I would have known I was going to go on a massive Monkey Ball quest, I would have done the marathon in a much better order! It's a bit all over the place isn't it! I think my skill started to dramatically improve when I got to Super Monkey Ball 1, that's where the controls started to feel much more responsive and I was able to experiment with the levels a lot more. But yeah for sure, even though BBHD isn't that great, it's still a pretty big improvement over the original. I also liked the new menus and theme song! Plus the extra skins which were taken from 3D was a nice touch. Yeah the scoring system didn't really make much sense when you started comparing the score across multiple game series. Plus just assigning something a number doesn't really give enough detail! Haha! I don't even know when I started saying "byeeeee", it just sort of happened one day! :D
Is that the issues with the spine artwork and stuff? So does the NTSC version just have a normal spine like any other Switch game? That would be a lot better because it would fit in with all of the other games haha!
*Warning, Warning, I don't see constructive criticism!* Why not instead of the boss battles being stationary, they could (for example) be sort of a chase through an obstacle course to damage them?
Haha! I tried being constructive! I could have gone more in depth I suppose but I feel like the footage somewhat speaks for itself. Yeah, that would be a better idea, but the whole game is basically a rush through an obstacle course, so it would kinda make the bosses feel a bit redundant if they were too similar to the base game. I just think that Banana Blitz over-complicated what should be a simple game. The boss battles and the jumping really only detract from the best parts of the game, which are the actual levels and the simplicity of only using the analogue stick to control the entire game is lost by being able to jump (plus there's an over-reliance on jumping which is a bit annoying).
@@PixelPursuit What would hurt by adding in unique boss stages for the bosses, where only they would utilize the jumping mechanic in well-designed ways? Or just something new for every boss. This is a remake, get creative! :) By the way, I don't mind a game having motion controls if it makes sufficient use of them. After all, that was pretty much the only thing the Wii had to offer (or at least the first to offer) over the competition of its era. A Wii game using motion controls too lightly (and doesn't have the option for traditional controls where it might as well have at that point) doesn't help its selling point.
Nothing would have hurt if it was implemented well, but implementing a feature which would end up feeling so drastically different to the normal gameplay in a game where everything is minimal could easily cause conflict. I'm not 100% against the idea of bosses, but it would take something extremely well designed to work in this game I think. You never know though, they could surprise me in the future. A thing to point out as well is that this technically isn't a remake, it's what is sometimes referred to as a remaster+ where it's fundamentally a port of the original game with better graphics, but it also adds some improvements on top of that. It's like the line between a remake and a remaster I guess. Other games that fall into this category are Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and Wind Waker HD. I've been meaning to do a video on the differences between remasters, remakes and reboots and all the grey areas in-between for a while now. I find it quite interesting. I agree, I actually enjoy motion controls that are used well. I like Wii Fit, I love the gyro aiming in the Wii U and 3DS Zelda games and there's loads of Wii and Wii U games that are really good for motion. Plus tons of VR games are basically the evolution of Wii games. So yeah, I'm by no means one of those people who turn their nose up at anything motion controlled! By all accounts though the motion controls in Banana Blitz are a bit annoying because you have to rotate your wrist awkwardly. I wouldn't know for certain though, I've not played it! But for a game all about accurate movement, I would take an analogue stick over motion controls.
@@PixelPursuit *Remasters, remakes and reboots and all the grey areas* What a title. The suggestion is more so about making the bosses have their own theme and stand out. Not just another level featuring the same gameplay. It might've benefited your review if you played the original release to feel the experience firsthand. Might've helped the review. Now that I think about it why didn't the Nintendo Switch version have a Wii remote on the cover art like its initial release. Synergy for all versions, I guess.
Haha, yeah that's pretty good. I'll probably end up doing that in the new year at some point. I've got a lot going on right now which I'll be talking about on the channel very soon. It's a difficult situation for me and bosses in this game, because I kinda don't want the bosses to stand out from the normal levels, I feel like Super Monkey Ball is at it's best when it's simple and having bosses changing the formula isn't something that I particularly want. I think if they were to have another shot at it in the future making the boss battles only appear in the story mode would be the best idea, because then when you've done them, you don't have to do them again. But yeah, I would hope that the boss battles would be more of an obstacle course than an arena fight to have more cohesion. Yeah maybe, but I think looking at it from the perspective of someone who hasn't played the original is still fairly interesting. It would almost be more interesting seeing what this game is like from someone who has no experience with the series at all. I wonder what they would think... Haha, they probably didn't have a Wii remote on the cover because that'd be confusing, people would probably think it works with the Wii remote or something!
I have no idea, the two people that leaked information about it are credible and Activision would be insane to not be working on something Crash related. My bet is that we'll see a new Crash game announced at The Game Awards on December 12th!
You'll have to let me know what you think to it if you do get it. Have you played any of the other ones? The original 2 games are far, far better than this, but with them being GameCube games you might not have a the hardware to play them :( Unless you have a Wii or a GameCube, in that case I would highly recommend you get those instead of Banana Blitz HD! :D
In that case, it's between Super Monkey Ball 3D and Banana Blitz HD. I personally think that 3D is better, but it's quite short and significantly easier than BBHD. It does have more replay value though with it having objectives to complete to get the collectibles. To be fair you could probably get both, luckily 3D and BBHD are pretty cheap now so it shouldn't be too difficult getting your hands on them! I have reviewed 3D if you wanted a more detailed look at it before buying it :D

I was actually going to give it a 5/10 but what lowers it for me is that it’s a pretty expensive game (or at least it was) and there’s hardly any content for the money. Not only that but comparing it to the much, much older games in there series really puts this one to shame. Plus the boss battles really are terrible and the general level design for the most part is uninspired and basic. I wanted to give this game a 5 purely on the basis that I really like Super Monkey Ball, but in the end I just couldn’t justify it personally! But hey, that’s just my opinion haha! 🙂

For me it's worse than just mediocre. I guess the thing is, is that it's not an awful game but it is an awful Monkey Ball game and I guess I took that into consideration when I gave it a score. I get that they wanted to give it a new spin with the bosses and jumping but they introduced way too many new elements into this game and it took away from the core concepts that make the games so good.
