That's true. Love how, unlike other youtubers, he tries to show exactly what the artist does in the original version, without putting stuff that is not really what the author does, but his own interpretation.
When these songs came out and we were all sitting around trying to learn them with no other reference but the song and no understanding of detuning, we either played really substandard versions or just moved onto the next song. I have to say. I discovered your channel just recently and I simply loved the way you teach us how to play a song. You have no idea of how much you are helping me. Mostly with Pearl Jam's songs. Salutes from Brazil. Thanks a lot.
This song has me so confused for the longest time. I'd remembered it from my younger days. But owning every Soundgarden cd and not having this song had me searching it out. Had forgotten about the soundtrack. What a great great freaking tune! Cornell was a very special individual and artist.
I stopped playing this because ive broken so many strings just tuning it for no capo! This has convinced me to get a capo because theres a piece of me missing not playing this amazing brilliant song and thank you Ryan for everything you do!
This is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE SONG OF ALL TIME!!! I have been annoying my daughter for years singing it. Some day I will double down and play it too. OMG, I just played the intro of seasons!!! (Thank you Ryan)
everytime i hear this song i feel bad cuz we won´t ever see anything like this song this great again, cornell was such an insane composer and writer and magician when putting both together
Dude I'm only 4minutes in but I'm subscribing,I've wanted to learn this forever,I knew it wasn't in standard but to take dadgad and change one string and then capo it as well,Chris was either a genius or was really bored that day,but it's an incredible song, your guitar sounds almost exactly like the recording,I'm definitely gonna learn this, thank you for doing a guitar teaching video the right way, sounds awesome dude, thx 🤘
Great song , tuning very different but great sounding also ,that’s a little peace of what made him so unique !!! A loss to the music world! Rest in peace brother 🎤🎸🎚️
It seems nobody can agree on the tuning of this. DADCD FFACF FCAFC DADFAD FFACCC. Regardless using DADFAD with a Capo is not only so much easier to tune and tune back to standard, but the fact nobody can agree on the tuning shows me that it's hard to tell anyways and it sounds just as good.
this is exactly why I made two videos on this song - my second one has the correct tuning as evidence by something chris said in a guitar magazine - though he didn't use a capo, I don't own the requisite strings to not use a capo.
Years ago I taught myself an awkward arrangement of this song just in open D that worked - but it wasn't perfect. Thanks for finally showing me the proper way.
I'm still working on this one... It's so worth it, so much fun to play and brilliant chords. CC was a genius. I'll never forget where I was when I heard he passed away.
I was listening to the Singles soundtrack again today and when I heard Seasons I decided now was the time to try to learn it, if it wasn’t too hard. So I grabbed my freshly stringed tele, pulled up this video and prepared to get ma learn on. Step one: tune to some weird tuning. Okay, no problem. Step two: Put capo on the third fret -- D’oh! I don’t have a capo and I wanted to play this today, like right now. :) So I figured since the capo is on the third fret, maybe it will work if I tune my guitar the same as DADAAD but three steps higher on each string to FCFCCF. Well, I tried it (being careful to go slow like you suggested for the A on the G string) and man, going up to that C note on the G string was a nerve-racking experience! But all that to say, your video for this song is brilliant, and tuning to FCFCCF with no capo worked perfect and this was beyond a doubt the most fun I’ve had learning to play a song yet. My absolute favorite Cornell song. Thank you for this truly awesome video Ryan! And yes, I’ll be picking up a capo soon :D I’m excited to get started on some other Cornell and Soundgarden songs. Can’t Change Me and Preaching the End of the World are big favorites for me. Can you please add me to the list of requesters for Blow Up the Outside World? Thanks again as always for your awesome channel Ryan, and congrats on 13K subs!
I really enjoyed reading that Bob, and I'm glad you didn't say no to a good time! Consider yourself on the list, and have fun with preaching and can't change me, two videos I adored making!
Thanks Ryan, been trying to play this since I heard it in the film singles all those years ago. No way I was ever working it out and up until now never found a way I could play it. My favourite song. Really pleased. Peace and best wishes. Gaz
Ryan, you always nail it sir. I have been straining those strings tuning to FFCCCC, rather than just use that dang capo. I have a separate guitar just for Chris's work, and it starts sweating whenever it hears Chris. It knows I'll become motivated, and really give those strings hell again. Also, just an observation, Chris always seems to illuminate the "DOOZIE ALERT" sign. I feel like we need to get you this sign when a Cornell request gets published.
A GENTLEMAN AND A SCHOLAR, you are sir!!....thanks for the shoutout and obviously the song. Excellent job as always, I’ll have my hands full learning it.
So I’ve watched PJ20 upwards of 10 or more times. You actually solved a mystery for me here, as I never knew what song was playing when they were talking about Andy Wood’s death. Now I know and I will be learning it on guitar. Many thanks. You’re a fantastic teacher.
aw thanks so much for telling me that Adam! I watch that movie every year on my birthday... it renews my enthusiasm and inspiration for the year in front of me. I must give you the disclaimer that I used a capo on this song because it makes you slightly less likely to break a string for the tuning - you'll see chris playing it with no capo, it's the exact same, I tuned lower and capo'd
I've been playing this song in standard tuning, apparently wrong but it works. Now I have to learn it the right way. Seems a hell of a lot easier then what I was doing.

Hey Ryan, haven't been on in awhile. Did you ever do As hope and promise fade? I can't find it. I figured it out and it sounds good bit of like to see your version. Anyway, have a great Sunday. 😁

If you tune your guitar to a big C (CGCGGC) instead of a big D (DADAAD) it starts to resemble the other weird tunings they used later on (like 4th of July, Noose and Burden). I find it pretty interesting how artists get to weird tunings, at the least I can track Chris and the guys, one day I will figure how Sonic Youth did 😂
Hey Bro. First of all thus his a great video. I found another from a dude called jammin in my jammies and he actually tunes his guitar to F-F-C-C-C-C and plays with no capo. In not promoting his page or saying his is better. But it seems like way less work. Without a doubt tho you both do a terrific job and I Thank you very much. I truly thought you may want to see it played with no capo
What's up elizabeth! 1) you don't have to tiptoe around my feelings, they are unhurtable :) 2) I've tried it that way and I personally like it my way better. I've seen chris do it a couple of different ways in videos so I felt I had license to choose my favorite :) I found this one to sound the most accurate to the recording.
If this isn't the best acoustic song of all time I don't know what is. I'm in downtown Philly Feb9-15, night of 10th might be my best window to buy you a pint(s) if you're around, otherwise no worries brotha - busy lives dot com.
this song is awesome and the last song to break my string lol :P this is different how you are playing it but seems easier than how chris played it (he doesn't use the capo i believe) regardless i was a little sceptical on the tone of the picking part but it sounds pretty accurate :D
yeah - live chris played in in E, tuned to open E so no capo. on the record it's F, so I used the D tuning and put a capo on the 3rd fret. There's an open F way to do it too... they all kind of amount to the same thing... I was trying to avoid string breaking as much as i could here :)
Ryan man, you rock brother. I feel like I’m sitting with a best friend learning songs. Love your teaching style man.

I find it pretty interesting how artists get to weird tunings, at the least I can track Chris and the guys, one day I will figure how Sonic Youth did 😂
Ooooh yeees! thanks Ryan!
you're welcome Pedro :)
Maybe Outshined sometime? And how do I get that sludgy sound?
great question :) and yes absolutely!
thanks
welcome
Can you do Dead Wishes off Higher Truth?
hell yeah buddy
Ryan Lendt sweet cant wait ^^
Thanks man....
You're very welcome sir
Hey man, I was wondering what guitar tuner you were using?
D'addario tools on the phone
If this isn't the best acoustic song of all time I don't know what is. I'm in downtown Philly Feb9-15, night of 10th might be my best window to buy you a pint(s) if you're around, otherwise no worries brotha - busy lives dot com.
busy lives dot com chunk - I'm on dad duty that evening. Thanks so much for the thought :)
@@RyanLendt No problem, I have 3 boys under 5, I totally get it.
152 bmp is flying. been working my way up slowly
That's how you do it!
Awesome job. Love that song. \m/\m/
Thanks Doc!
Your G string shall be sacrificed. :)
indeed :)
Destroy string no? :(
this song is awesome and the last song to break my string lol :P this is different how you are playing it but seems easier than how chris played it (he doesn't use the capo i believe)
regardless i was a little sceptical on the tone of the picking part but it sounds pretty accurate :D
yeah - live chris played in in E, tuned to open E so no capo. on the record it's F, so I used the D tuning and put a capo on the 3rd fret. There's an open F way to do it too... they all kind of amount to the same thing... I was trying to avoid string breaking as much as i could here :)
hence why it's an amazing video dude :P ill be trying this when i get home from work :D thanks
what tuning app are you using on your phone btw? I used the fender one but it sucks a bit
why thank you :) d'addario tools! best $4 or whatever you can spend for a guitar app.
I think the original tuning was
F,C,C,C,C,F like without the capo
correct me if iam wrong
Just watched Chris play it on the 1st fretted no capo
yep. same difference. F's and C's for the tuning once you capo it.
This guy does a great job but Chris did play it in Fs and Cs. Gives the bass notes more depth and this way with the capo doesnt ring out as well.
