Nice seeing this makes me really really miss doing flooring... I had to give it up once I was diagnosed with COPD. If u ever decide to change from the dolphin style knifes... May I suggest a Crain 730 for pad (underlay) lol. N heck ya a stone is definitely worth getting

Hi, thanks for watching. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I'm always keen to here other people suggestions on tools, crain do make some good quality knives. The dolphin always does seem a bit overkill for underlay, maybe the smaller 730 is something I'll add one day, thanks.

use a 3 pound weighted rubber mallet, never a hammer,
    for OBVIOUS reasons.

I started installing floors fifty years ago now retired and still do small jobs. A sharping stone is your friend when I learned the trade we sharpened all our knives except slotted blades. Oil and carpet don't mix a Norton 120 grit Linoleum knife dry stone is a better choice. They are 1 1/4 in x 10 in. Without a handle, they are not much money about fifteen dollars US. Large knitting needles to part carpet rows for cutting seams.
