There was no singer in the 20th century or even now that could have a voice anywhere near that of Bobby Hatfield. He was magical, and his performance was a masterpiece.
Live performance. He had a cold and his mom was in the audience. No pressure. They each did solos in their performances. This was and, forever will be, Bobby Hatfield's song. No auto tunes. The Righteous Brothers were referred to as Blue-Eyed Soul. This song was used in the movie "Ghost". It was originally written for a movie in 1955 "Unchained".
Sandra Lorenz, actually it was his mom & Dad both that were there in the audience and was the very first time that they were able to watch him perform Live, coupled with the fact that not only was Bobby fighting a really bad cold that particular night but he also suffered from extreme stage fright as well! In fact if you watch his interview at the very beginning you can actually here the extreme anxiety in his voice as he spoke just prior to preforming this solo, Just saying....
BEST REACTION EVER! GLAD YOU APPRECIATE A GREAT SONG AND GREAT TALENT FROM SOMEONE WHO WAS IN THE BAND THAT OPENED FOR THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS IN PHOENIX MANY YEARS AGO. THANK YOU!
That was Bobby....always soulful and passionate, putting everything into his music. He was a newlywed, singing to his wife, Joy. Bobby was an amazing counter- tenor, could go from Baritone renge to G5 or higher. No falsetto. He passed away in 2003, age 63, 8 months after the Righteous Brothers were inducted into the RnR Hall of Fame. Bill was a great Bass-Baritone. Together they were unbelievable. Bill is still performing at the age of 82. Bobby is sorely missed. But he left us a legacy of amazingly beautiful music.
Bobby was an amazing entertainer, he had it all - the voice was a gift from God, and fortunately he knew how to put it to amazing use. It didn’t hurt that he was both gorgeous and had more charm than Cary Grant.
I love your reaction to Bobby Hatfield singing "Unchained Melody" on the Andy Williams Show in 1965. He was 25-years old, recovering from a cold, and, yes, his mother was in the audience. This is probably one of THE BEST PERFORMANCES EVER!
Great reaction! Thank you. I remember when the Righteous Brothers first his the airwaves. I am 77 years old. To this day, whenever I hear Bobby Harfield sing this, I am moved to tears and the good chills. Heavenly sound.
OMG the late Bobby Hatfield! I was 15 yrs old when I watched him sing this beautiful song on the Andy Williams show. No auto tune, just pure raw talent! RIP Bobby! We miss your beautiful voice! You need to play the Brothers music! They had lots of hits in the 60's.
The expression on your face as you listen to a genre of my time is priceless. I was 17 in 1965. Glad you liked it and thanks for sharing. Stay safe young man.
I too turned 17 in Jan of 1965 and graduated from high school that summer. Oh what a treat it is to relive those moments/times via the music we were blessed to grow up listening to and these reviews of our 'boomer music' by todays youth is such a gift.
Written for the (1955) Prison Movie "Unchained." It was composed by Multi-Academy Award Winning Composer Alex North with Lyrics by Hy Zaret. Ten years later in (1965) on the 'Andy Williams Show.' Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers and the Andy Williams Orchestra gave one of the greatest live television performances ever in the history of live television. This was a live television performance done 57 years ago before auto tune, and before computer or electronic enhancement. The rest as they say is history.
This was on the Andy William's Show on Valentine's Day. His finance was in the audience. Young and so handsome Bobbie Hatfield at the peak of his exquisite voice. Women would melt when he sang, both men and women would drip tears. This song is about a very, very rare love, ~ Romeo & Juliet type of love. It has been said that Bobbie Hatfield had a vocal range that spanned an unusual four octaves, sliding seemly effortlessly from deep baritone to falsetto high C. I have no words that are vivid enough to describe how his voice makes me feel when listening to Unchained Melody.
Bobby Hatfield owned this sing! He made it look easy and he was sick too! Most singers do make faces when they sing those notes bc they are straining to hit them. Bobby didnt have to strain to hit those notes! His range and breath control was amazing! You should check out "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" both Bobby & Bill sing that one.
@@darrinwebber4077 it’s a male that can sing naturally, not falsetto, as high as a mezzo soprano. It’s head voice, not chest voice. It’s very rare. Male Opera singers all have it, but it is extremely rare in mainstream music.
Brother Bobby Hatfield owns this song!!! He has natural blue eyed soul!! After this try "you've lost that loving feeling " Brother Bill Medley is there
This song was written for a prison movie- listen to it again knowing it's a guy inside singing to his girl he hopes is waiting for him. Oh, and that last smile? His mother was in the audience, and he knew he'd hit the note.
Amazing voices both of them. This is one duo where there was no color. People from all walks of life loved listening in to them. I mean how can you not. I wish I could have see. Them live before Bobby passed away. Some of the best voices of all time
I was absolutely absorbed watching this guy reaction to this out of the world performance by Bobby!!!!! Like Sherlock Holm’s said to Dr.Watson: you know John, maybe you are not luminous yourself, but you are a great conductor of light. This reaction is so precious and sincere. He immersed into Bobby’s voice and became voice himself. Love the guy. He has a talent of reflecting feelings and emotions. He is an empath!!!!!!! Very rare feature nowadays. He lived through the whole performance. Watching him was as amazing as watching and listening to the voice of Bobby - great and moving experience. I am so grateful to him for his reaction.
He just happened to do this song solo. Mostly, the two men recorded together, but Bobby Hatfield performed this number solo. Check out "You've lost that Lovin' feeling" to see and hear them together. Magical. I was a teenager when they first came on the scene. I am now77 and their sound still send me to the moon. Nobody has equaled them even after all these years. After a while they were described as "blue eyed soul".
These guys are where the term "blue eyed soul" originated. Bill Medley & Bobby Hatfield were the Righteous Brothers but each also had solo careers. This particular song was one that Bobby had covered prior to meeting up with Medley so he sang it solo even when they performed together. The song was featured in the most romantic scene in the movie "Ghost."
You probably know by now with 84 comments, that’s the righteous Brothers got their name, so it’s sad, when they were at a gig in the south. They had finished with the tune, and someone jumped up and yelled out, “ righteous, brother”. They both have solo performances in different tunes/songs. Most of the time they harmonize together flawlessly.
Oh his brother was amazing as well and just fine singing lead on "you've lost that loving feeling" deep raspy soulful voice everyone wanted him. Color didn't even matter because they loved them. Both voices to complement each other
@brk. stimmt ....Sommerzeit, da glänzt Bobby ebenfalls mit Einmaligkeit.❤ Er war sowieso der talentiertere der beiden vom Aussehen gar nicht zu reden.😊😊❤❤❤❤
They were nicknamed the righteous brothers by visiting American airmen who said they sang righteous and sounded like brothers try You've lost that loving feeling to see them both in full flight,oh and they weren't brothers in either sense of the word but they were magnificent.
@nadogrl I was told back then it was a visiting airmen when they sang at the base here in the UK but the way it was said(thank you for straightening that out for me) rings bells .

Dray said play this for your girl, but if you do she's gonna want Him, Bobby Hatfield instead of you! This is what we played for our girls back in the day and we called it make out music. I grew up in the best time for Soul singers who could actually sing!
Check out "You've Lost that Lovin Feeling" another epoch hit with both singing. They were timeless and this song will always be one of my most favorite songs!
No Beat back in the day....They knew exactly what they needed to do n they just did it!!!! The other brother was in the back...They sometimes did solo's...This one was Bobbie's.... Fantastic reaction
Blue eyed soul. Bobby was a counter tenor with a 4 to 5 octave range. He wasn't doing a falsetto. Watch him closely, there's no stress to produce that heavenly voice

Today's music seldom creates this type of reaction, which is a shame as music is so powerful in the hands of people, not computers. Imagine many of today's "artists" trying to sing this without autotune!
The very best!!!!!!!!!!
His mother was in the audience that night and that was the first time she's seen him on stage
NO COMPUTERS... NO SYNTHESIZERS...NO LIP-SYNCING... PURE TALENT AND PURE LIVE VOICE!!!!

Still this performance never ceases to amaze me, no matter how many times I watch it.

I LOVED WHEN YOU GOT UP AND DANCED AROUND THE ROOM WITH YOUR RESPONSE TO THE SONG
Bobby was a counter tenor, a very rare voice to be born with in history. He had a 4 and a half to 5 octave range.
That song was done as a SOLO. Bobby nailed it. You gotta check out their other songs ....NO BAD SONGS with these guys!!!!! Pure TALENT is all you get.

Yes soul. Thank You for sharing
I love watching the "younger generation " watch the singers of days gone by

Thank you for one the most entertaining reactions on the Internet!
Anyone can sing a song and show you how hard they're working at it. When a true artist delivers a song it looks effortless.
No one!!
He and his partner agreed to do one song solo on each album and this was his…major hit! So blessed to have grown up with this music…
Both of the riotous brothers were straight

Bobby Hatfield don't make no stink face when he sings. He's the GOAT for Unchained Melody ballad singers of all the others who did this song

Righteous Brothers were considered Blue Eyed Soul.
Same styling I always loved about Al Green
Love your enthusiasm and your reaction is right on!
First time watching your reaction video, you seem pretty cool
Bobby sang this alone. Bill was with Andy Williams in the wings
Blue eyed soul at it's finest.
Just watch the reaction videos of women listening to this song. They literally melt before your eyes.
Your reaction is great, man!
The beginning of the video was not shown. Pull up The Righteous Brothers on the Andy Williams Show

Cool, calm, collected is right. Not the usual histrionics when a singer is trying to impress you with their vocal range.
