      @@denisdaly1708then enlighten us here on the science of climate change and the human contribution? Then see global overpopulation, pollution as far as industrial activity in China,India etc,go to irelands miniscule emissions in comparison! Far more serious issues than this nonsense in Ireland. Farming is an easy target as against air travel etc. No fan of healy are but here he's right.

    Have the people of Ireland lost their collective minds, the question is purely rhetorical of course they have. Farming was once the backbone of the Irish Economy but since the Irish Government managed to attract the big Tech Players with sweetheart Tax deals they now feel they can pick on the Farming Community with no repercussions, the Global based firms could pick up tomorrow and move to Indonesia or Lithuania if they thought they could get a better deal there. Perhaps it is time for another revolt in Ireland I am frankly amazed that the Irish people have given up everything they have over the last two decades, you are being abused and do not seem to be able to see it.

  • @Rheinmeister09
    @Rheinmeister09 ปีที่แล้ว +37

    It's too easy for people to brush the Healy Rae's off but he does make sense. The government is saying that 40% of carbon emissions is down to the farming industry so there needs to be a reduction in the size of farms around the country but where is the information on what impact the import of beef from Brazil into the country will have along with what sort of regulatory standards they are adhering to as a country and what impact that has on our health? Typically, if meat is cheaper, there tends to be hormones injected into that meat to keep the price down and because you also have to factor in the travel time to get that meat from Brazil to Ireland and hormones preserve it that bit longer. The last peat briquette factory closed this week but again we are importing from other countries. I get that we all have to reduce our carbon footprint but the way the government seem to be tackling it is short sighted. Technically the country is in recession when you take out the 2 or 3 big US companies that prop us up from a Corporation Tax point of view. If the US closes that loop hole and they have to pay that money in tax in the US then that's a big hole in the kitty. Why are we sacrificing our food industry when we should be supporting it particularly in a rainy day situation if FDI decreases? Reductions can happen but aren't there ways to offset the emissions from farms without this dramatic reduction when this meat could have been exported to other countries instead? How many multinationals are offsetting their footprint in the country? Take for example someone like Intel - what are they doing to offset their emissions?
