- Few internet tales have the infamy of the Slender man. Even if you have no idea what a creepypasta is, you'll likely know who he is. The internet's First Urban Legend: The Slender man.

It’s funny how a series about Slenderman did better than the movie Sony made. If it’s made from the internet, it stays in the internet
Those hit pretty hard ngl. MH, EMH, and the (most of) the others still hold up pretty well.
They also tried to capitalize on the Morbius memes by re-releasing the movie on theaters while the memes were more or less at their peak, and it flopped a second time!
It's like Star Wars
"Its almost like I made a better story than Lucasfilm as one person...oh wait, that was the problem"
-uniqueanameasaurus
slenderman movie was doomed from the start. Not rated R, no real passion, and almost 5 years since the fad ended. There was no way we were getting a good slenderman movie because it deviated from the source material and was overall made as a failed cashcow that arrived too late.
@@inendlesspain4724no surprise there frankly, people who actually use the internet know what their fellow internet users want to see, what they like, what they don’t like, and they know it much better than 90% of movie directors
Bruh miss when Slenderman was scary. Better times, those were. At least the Rake is still mostly intact.
The rake still is for sure.
Considering that the rake is one of the things that inspired fleshgaits you could also say it's legacy lives on pretty much intact
@@Sacrow Just wait for the "WE FOUND THE RAKE IN THE BACKROOMS (GONE WRONG, GONE SEXUAL, OBAMA SHOWED UP)" type videos.
It’s crazy how nostalgic I am for Marble Hornets even though I’ve never finished it.
I'd definitely recommend finishing it. It's one of the few series that not only has a very good ending, but didn't drag out several years longer than needed to wrap up, didn't have an abrupt ending, or didn't just completely stop updating.
@@Unregistered.HyperCam.2
I just can’t follow the storyline, it’s too complicated for me. I have to watch breakdown videos to understand what’s going on.
Oh, Marble! I'm not familiar with this series, and thought he was saying *Marvel* haha. And I'm like "Damn slender really did go mainstream"... Edit: just got to the theatrical movies so I guess it did.
Slenderman needs to make a horrific comeback in the form of digital/ analog horror
Like sonic.exe?
I agree, i think there’s one that incorperates him called Morley Grove. That’s really good.
I’m surprised to hear that Slenderman was inspired by “The Rake”. That’s the one creepypasta that really traumatized me when I was a kid, and I wouldn’t have thought that it predated Slenderman.
The fact that you mentioned the Slender Man Mythos leaking onto TVTropes makes me unduly happy because I was the one who created both the Slender Man Mythos page (which got too big to be self-contained after a while) and the Marble Hornets page, which were the first pages about Slenderman on the site. As far as I'm aware, I was the first to use the term "Slender Man Mythos" as well, because I needed a name for the page of overarching tropes, and I settled on that because of the frequent comparisons of Slender Man stories to both the Cthulhu Mythos and the then-popular Chzo Mythos (fanart of which was used in the creation of the original Slender Man image if I remember correctly). I have not thought back to the days of me being a Slender Man super fan in years, but this video really brings me back to better times
The mainstream kills anything it gets its hands on.
Its good to hear Slenderman is making a comeback and is being treated with respect from the sound of things. Hopefully the mainstream doesnt touch him again.
I love Slenderman, I miss the time when he was at peak. He's the OG internet urban legend, and he definitely has the most potential out of every creepypasta to be something truly special, but just because of two girls with no knowledge on what fiction is, and a crappy movie, he's just a joke now. Which is honestly soul crushing, as he was(and honestly still is) one of my favorite internet urban legends of all time. From the original thread, to all the incredible web series of him, like Marble Hornets and EverymanHYBRID, he was just so special and will forever be special in my heart.
I really hope that one day we'll see Slender return to the light and be blessed with a genuinely scary story, webseries, whatever. I just hope he isn't stuck as a sad joke forever. I really do miss the good ol' days.
Wait, what..?
Octopuses can ABSOLUTELY use their tentacles to walk. 😂
😂😂😂 I like how you extracted that one piece of misinformation from the vid. Means youre paying attention 💯
It’s always so weird to look back on those days, apparently some teenagers dressed up like him in the next neighborhood over but no one actually admitted to it.
I was so small then.
Seeing a tall thin man staring at the playground from across the street was so unnerving.
It’s gonna sound like a slender man plug but when I talk to friends from back then, they don’t remember it.
I’ll always have a soft spot for Slender. The first and only creepypasta to genuinely scare and now anerve me. I think all of the games up to Arrival are very good and interesting, my personal favorites being the Eight pages, Woods, and the Shadow games.
Fallen titans is the best way to describe our old friend Slender
I remember playing slender the arrival with my friend in like 2013. good times
I played it the day it came out since I loved the eight pages.
I remember reading stuff about him online back in like 2010. Its hard to believe he's become a sort of pop culture symbol of early 2010's horror and a foundation of what we think of as horror online today. Great video as always Sacrow.
I'm liking all these long creepypasta videos that have been dropping in the past few days. It's giving me good content to listen to while I do stuff
Ah, I have such a soft spot for these ARGS. I love that a couple of shmucks in the late 2000's with no fancy equipment can create such iconic depictions of these characters, and get them right... but Hollywood can't.
An hour of Sacrow content is *just* what I needed. Thanks for all you do!
Theres something just soothing about his voice
I remember being terrified of this faceless freak as a kid, but nowadays i adore him.
I love the early Slender, the OG version of him. No proxies, no "slender sickness" non of that cringe ass nae nae shit.
Just a terrifying creature that kidnaps children and guts people before impaling them on trees.
Sucks that the internet had to ruin him :(
"Operator sickness" was there from nearly the beginning; Marble Hornets made it commonplace as early as 2009(I think the first entries you see this in effect is before the end of the year), just a couple months after the Something Awful thread. That's more OG Slender Man, chronologically, than anything to do with children(outside of the very first two images) or any gratuitous violence being commonplace.
I don't think that proxies or illnesses are cringe. They establish the Slender Man's oppressive presence, how just by him being around can fuck a person up. Whether that be driving them to states of confusion, fear, odd comfort, or having them do things that they would never do just for an escape or newfound security.
When I was a child, literally anything could keep me up at night, so even into my teens- when creepypasta blew up- I never really touched horror content. Since Slenderman got so big, though, I ended up finding out about him and I really really like the story, and the character. Nowadays I love horror and feel a deep nostalgia for Slendy. Hope he really does make a comeback, in the healthiest way possible.
I'd say both Chris Chan and Sonuchu are a lot more infamous.
Growing up i loved slenderman. Still do to this day. I remember in 6th grade doing a report on him for English class
Thanks for the upload, leaving a comment for the algorithm
Thank you!
slendy man so scary….
*Unless you’re into anime.*
Oh no, I like anime.
*O H N O*
I was lucky enough to watch marble hornets as it was being uploaded on youtube and its what really got me into the horror genre. Even rewatching it now brings back some great high school memories of binge watching the episodes that were out to that point each year as a summer vacation tradition with my best friend
guys, slender the arrival was way better than you remember, and the person just made a VASTLY graphically improved version for Xbox and playstation(probably pc too) so id strongly recommend playing it.
lets see if we can bring slender back, cause seriously this icon deserves a comeback
A whole video on my boy slenderman? You shouldn't have
In my 5th grade language arts class a kid wrote a creepypasta about Slenderman and read it to the class. I do have to say it’s funny how without knowing the context back then the story was actually creepy
slender content taking off recently
wake up homies, sacrow uploaded a video! 🎉
If i recall correctly there is an analog horror series that features a slender like character called the morly man i think its made by the same guy who made the mandela catalog it has a pretty cool premise but I don't think its being worked on as frequently as the main series is with all the attention slender is getting as well as the game remaster that came out i kinda of hope it means there's going to be a resurgence in the slender man
It might be dr.who
I can still remember how exciting it was whenever a new marble hornets episode was released
You don't know how much I've been waiting for this video!
I remember catching one of the research streams a while ago. Good video.
When me and my friend were 10, we were one of those obsessed with slender man people. We would act like proxies too. We lived near a big forest and there was an area that was really spooky looking and we believed slender man lived there. I wish he was still popular, i miss watching videos about him and believing he was real.
This vid was super cool...and yes would definitely love to see you cover slender man fan games
I’m glad I grew up with slender man and all the “sighting” videos and stuff. It’s super nostalgic for me.
The sad thing is what happend to that girl glad she survived that and also thanks for uploading ive had a bad week and i needed something to keep my mind off things
When a creepypasta gets popular you know their done, less is always more
Slenderman always reminds me of the Silence from Dr. Who
Slender in the late 2000s to early 2010s was an amazing time for all things spooky on the Internet and early beginnings of analog horror or args
Always amazing work
Nothing like drawing and doing school work while listening to these videos
I love your videos so much
It’s here I have awaited an upload
Oh ya could you do a deep dive on the Mandela catalogs? thanks!
A couple notable tidbits:
The creator of TribeTwelve is currently radio silent after it came out he was harassing fellow members of the SlenderVerse and talking with individuals bellow an appropriate age. I recommend looking into it yourselves.
The Marble Hornets crew were also involved in the creation of Slender: The Arrival. The crew would also go on to make Clear Lakes 44, though this would end shortly after due to internal drama and breaking up of the crew. Most of them are currently on good terms again. Troy (Jay) is also currently making another series called ECKVA, and is releasing comics that tie into the Marble Hornets story.
sacrow please make a video about all Disney Creepypastas
I once wanted to use Slender Man in my own works, but it's far too complicated legally now (wasn't when I started having the idea) so... poop.
I liked him better as just a photoshop on somethingawful
Watching marblehornets as a 13 year old as each video released was revolutionary for how I saw the inventive ways people can interact over the internet in story telling environments so intricately at a time the average American thought email instant messaging was crazy still.
Bro how was this 1 day ago. Why are we interested in this again?
I do hope Slender man comes back better then ever and people start coming around to him as a concept again. I’ve come to realize a lot of late 2000’s to early 2010 stuff are looked at as trash or lame until coming back with appreciation, then again that’s probably most trends.
A lot of it was looked at as trash at the time. The difference was a massive percentage of the audience for this type of thing is middle/high school children that stick their head in the sand at the idea that their completely originally totally-not-Jeff-the-Killer-or-Jane-or-Toby OC is just as trash as Jeff, Jane, Toby, most of the "edgelord" writing that was the mixture of teen angst and a desire to have a dark Mary Sue self-insert. Some of them have grown up and are now accepting those parts, rightfully, as trash.
Not to say everything of the period was this, but that a hell of a lot of it was.
@@Unregistered.HyperCam.2 well I didn’t really mean those creepypastas, I was more referring to the Slenderverse and while I’m at it, some other creepypasta monsters that didn’t get enough love like the Seedeater, the Rake, Strider, and B.O.B.
Do you actually own a vintage TV like that Sacrow?? (at the ending bit)
Shoutout to those who joined the research streams!
Thoughts about the new level in the HD remake of Slender The Arrival ?
wake up babe!! Sacrow uploaded
Please do a video on Zalgo!
I remember learning about slender as a kid and trying to play the eight pages on my Mac laptop, and then getting so scared I swore off of playing horror for years. Now he’s best known for inspiring some dumb kids to try and kill a girl to appease him even though that was never how slender functioned you can’t appeal to him he does as he pleases.
Am i crazy or does he sound like blameitonjorge
what the hell is it Slenderman day or something? cos i swear ive seen like 20 slender man vids today
Yeah, just a crazy coincidence.
TH-cam is doing such a good job at uplifting smaller channels. I had no idea who you are. Now I do. Subscribed
Toby was pulled from the CP fandom (he is SlenderVerse not CP). Masky and Hoodie are also Slenderverse and not CP.
Hello
So, we meet again... That was inevitable... (grabs shotgun and a flask of holy water).
this one is a blessing after the one that matpat uploaded
cool!
*slenderman* ever wonder why im so slender? boligimai
Bro please do a jeff the killer or smile dog video we some more videos like this
A fucking fire legend.
A wonderful piece of my pre teen- hood
It's too bad the movie sucked it be great if there were merchandise of this character in stores regularly.
Needless to say it's too bad that the character is "evil" in a way he could have been a great force for good in a way, what a waste of talent.
Oh well r.i.p the legend that was slender man
I love your kitties sacrow
Both Game Theory and Sacrow videos about Slender Man on the same day? Count me in
Redbletter media invented slenderman
Idk I was kinda into slenderman in a "that's kinda hot" way from the jump when I started watching marble hornets in my early 20s. Or maybe I'm just gay 🤷♂️

Absolutely love your videos and your long form content 🥰
That said, at about the 20 minute mark, the video is incredibly off sync with what you're saying. The text on the screen is about 6 or so sentences ahead of what you're saying.
Keep up the good work, your content is truly amazing and I can't wait to see more videos. 💜🥰
God those slender games and movies were so cringe lol. Great video though, as always.
Hey Sacrow can you try and find some good Jeff the killer creepypastas
That’s a tough task my friend
im sorry, did u say gRASSY KNOLL-
Its funny how i was always obsessed with this faceless goofy man since i first heard of him online thanks to Slender and Markiplier, then i learned alot about him and him, exe, and abit of older guys are my favorite charcters still
collect my pages
Us Germans have been terrorized by our parents for generations with tales of "slenderman". Hes called der groBmann and is a tall man, in a dark suit, with no face who takes naughty kids away into the forest. 😬
That's so odd, I've never heard anyone point out that there's a folkloric character that's so similar! I wonder if that was an influence, but it's weird the guy didn't mention it with all the others.
@@_gremlinboy I think he did mention it, but pronounced it a tad bit differently.
@@_gremlinboy There isn’t. This person is lying and spreading a hoax. It’s actually called Der Großmann, and it was invented shortly after Slenderman in order to add to the lore. If you want real old folklore, not people lying about someone else’s culture, check out the Pied Piper (“der Rattenfänger von Hameln”).
I had no idea about the Slenderman mythos in Alabama, ive heard of Marbles Hornets but never really watched so i checked the wiki and read up on the locations, finding out it was filmed in Central Alabama, where i live, and all the locations arent too far from me either, might have to run out this Halloween and check them out myself lol.
DID SOMEBODY SAY ONE PICE
people on their way to say "first" on the video
