    Eric Johnson's solos are so uniquely musical. One of the cleanest players I know of. Strikes me as a very humble guy, too.

    It is clear that Eric Johnson's ear, playing, and comprehension have evolved over the past twenty years of his career and should put a stop forever to those who criticize his playing as just relying on nothing but pentatonic licks.

    • @ΑνηξεροςΤρικερατοπας
      @ΑνηξεροςΤρικερατοπας 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      His playing has never been relying just on pentatonic licks. Classical influences are profound, and there are some jazzy elements that imo are clear. Though I love the fact that MOST of his playing is blues/pentatonics, and he interprets those the BEST way possibe, that never gets boring.

      Eric .................Johnson is a gifted Guitarist know Question @ all ............ Eric Paulos you can all debate about what he is but do you enjoy listening to his compositions or not .. Listen if you do and don't if you think he is just a pentatonic machine ... As for the haters , i am sure you can all play as well as him ;-)

    I really enjoyed the exotic, arabesque phrases added to this particular version. He hasn't lost anything. I think his guitar work has become more technical and emotive over the years. Thanks for sharing this with us.

      First, he's playing a 60 nicotine burst. Rarer by far than the cherry burst. I've got one like it, but mine has the black pickguard, and pickups, like SRVs, THEN there's that whole wiring pickups out of phase thing he does, so even if you or I could play like him, we could never match that unique sound. BUT,....at least I have THE guitar though.....play the shit out of it,.....but not like EJ.

    The world is filled with guitar players who can emulate everyone else's genius. That in itself is a gift and should be respected. 56 critics may possess that ability, but most likely will never be a creative genius. Respect those whose hard work, gifts and talents are worthy of being called the best for creating arrangements of magic that only a few have accomplished in their lifetime. Eric's style is complete, masterful, and original. Respect, right? Just saying.

    If Eric wants to play for 7 minutes before he starts a song. I'm all for it! There are very few individuals throughout history that have a gift like his. Speaking as a guitar play of 44 years if all you hear is blistering pentatonic scales then I'd have to tell you that you're clueless!

      Chris Maresh: he's been a "muchy much" in Austin for decades. To be honest, I never understood his reputation but Austin was/is full of these type of musicians. Named not famed. It's a musical town. I was a working/gigging bass player in Austin during the mid-80's and was introduced to him at a party and everybody was all "that's Chris Maresh" and it was "Hi" - "Hi" and that was it.
