Personally, I think the G1 incarnation of Tirek is the better version, because he has qualities the G4 version lacks: (1) Intimidation - When Tirek first appeared we never saw his face until near the end which kind of gave him a omny presence that was felt throughout the special. But when G1 Tirek was on screen, we saw how ruthless of a villain he was when he threatened to decapitate Spike the baby dragon. (2) Power - G1 Tirek already had great amounts of power, he turned a prince into a monster who became his servant meaning he's already conquered one kingdom and now sets his eyes on the rest of Ponyland, he wielded a bag that held the power of darkness which could turn any peaceful creature into raging monsters, and finally G1 Tirek lived in a castle and to quote the lyrics of "Knight of the Wind" by Crush 40 "A castle is a stronghold of power", this a visual way of showing the viewer how much power G1 Tirek holds over the heroes without needing to actually show his true power. G4 Tirek did have power but it was taken away from him and got locked away, now he has to go around Equestria to steal the magic from other magic users like Imperfect Cell from Dragon Ball Z. I wouldn't have a problem with this if they didn't do the same thing with five other villains, not sure if you include Queen Chrysalis & the Dazzlings but when you remove them the equation you still get three other villains who stole magic from Equestria and the Mane 6. (3) The Voice - I like villains who have a intimidating voice that can make everything go silent, make the hero freeze up in fear, and send shivers down viewers spine, these villains include: - The Lich (Adventure Time) - Slade (og Teen Titans) - Fire Lord Ozai (Avatar: The Last Airbender) - Amon (The Legend of Korra) G1 Tirek has one of those voices that just sends shivers down bones with just how calm and powerful it is, sure it kind of loses its Intimidation factor once G1 Tirek reveals his face in my opinion but for awhile G1 Tirek had one of the best villain voices you'll hear. G4 Tirek's voice does fit his character but it just doesn't have the same impact as the og's voice. And fun fact, G1 Tirek's voice actor, Victor Caroli, was the narrator for G1 Transformers, just thought I would throw that in there.
