Being from Australia I know about hot weather, like 40c isn’t unusual. Hang wet sheets over your open doors, a wet bandana around your neck and point a fan to blow air out of the window. Get a portable solar panel so you can park in the shade and still charge your battery.

Last year was bad in denmark. I had open doors and windows everywhere. And then no duvet and no clothes and a wet towel over me all night. Only like that can i sleep. I also have a tower fan by the bed some years. This year is freezing though. Everything closed and my electric fireplace is on for about 3 hours. Weather is weird these days...

I feel your pain. I live in Arizona and it routinely gets 115F (46C) in summer. The nice thing about it though is everywhere you go here people offer you water; we pass it out like candy at Halloween lol. Great ideas with the wet sheets, fan, and portable solar panels. Hopefully Ame will get some relief from the heat soon.

Part of this seems so romantic, blue skies, lovely sun, sea around....then reality strikes.... where to park, how to avoid the heat, how to recharge the batteries. A gentle 'in your face' reminder that van life can be tough. Keep it up though🙏

I absolutely love this series. It inspired me to look into Vans and the possibility . It encourages people to just allow some silence , some quiet time to reflect and take a moment to examine how one feels . Its honest in that she explores what she loves and what she hates and is unpretentious and does not hold back. Traveling is expensive and she makes this work . I love how she burns her food and just loves quiet private spaces. You have to draw boundaries for safety and she is open about her whereabouts I am sure with family and closer people . Maybe she has her video person watching her . The world is dangerous for solo travelers unless you have people that are close connected for safety

AME, READ THIS!!! The little air machine you're using ... get yourself some "reusable plastic ice cubes" and fill the reservoir with them before adding the water. It will make the air coming from it so much colder and actually bring the temperature down in the van! Get multiple sets so you can always have some in the freezer and keep rotating them out. You can even use the inserts for lunch boxes that you put in the freezer if they'll fit in your machine, those might be easier to find in the lunchbox or cooler section of a store. I hope you try this, trust me it works! Of course you can just use regular ice too but this way you won't have to waste your water and they last much longer!

Install an Anderson plug on your vehicle then plug a portable solar panel with a lead about 10 metres on it so you can park in the shade and have your panel in the sun all day just have to ask the experts what size panel you need to run all your needs and a battery to match for your good nights sleep

Hi Ame ❤️ how about buying a portable power pack with an attachment solar panel that folds away like a mat. You can set the solar panel mat under sunlight whilst it recharges the power pack and you chill in the shade or with your AC on. You can also recharge on the go from your 12v socket while your engine runs. A bit of an outlay to buy but very versatile anywhere.

Hey, Ame. I’ve got to give you props for braving the van life in this heat. I feel ya. I used to drive a hotshot (pickup with a trailer) for a living. I’d use a small petroleum generator and a heater overnight in the winter time to stay warm. In the summer, I’d just opt for running my engine with the AC on. Perhaps you might consider a propane generator since you already have propane onboard. That should be sufficient to run your AC unit. Also, have you considered bolting down some of the frequent-use items? It might serve you well to do that with your AC box.

    Regarding "extreme heat"...
This past summer, temperatures in Southern California were as high as 41 to 42 degrees C, often for a 7 to 10 days. Fortunately, the humidity is generally low, so the heat is bearable when outdoors. (It is now mid-October, and we are going to be looking at temperatures between 35 to 38 degrees C going into the coming weekend.)
Yes, we have AC (airconditioning) in most homes and buildings. However, if everyone in an area is running their AC, the electrical grid can get so overloaded that it shuts down. Then one has to deal with heat indoors until the electrical grid can be restarted. And if the grid is down long enough, refrigerated foods can start going bad.

Hey Ame. Oh yes I remember you went there much earlier in the year - Port Grimaud (looked real nice). I really felt for you when you woke up in the van and it was smoking hot - I struggle with heat, its difficult to think straight!! 🥵 That must be a nightmare to sleep in such heat and you cannot really rest or get deep sleep. You can only discard some clothes and thats not enough if its 30C+ 🥵and I can only imagine being inside a metal van! You are tough. You look so relieved to wade into the sea the next morning! Maybe get some water sprays and wet some flanels to help get your temp down, and for Gigi as well. Its probably best to head north or get to the French/Italian/Swiss mountainous regions with cooler air, or down into some valleys with forests with alot of shade, out deep in nature where the lakes, streams and rivers will cool you down. Spend time there until Sept? I remember you went Denmark way in 2022, maybe go real up north that way for a short while to cool off?
I'm with family in the new forest right now, staying in a cabin and oh my lord is it holding the heat of the hot sunny days. It was 29C in the day time. But felt like 30C all night there with windows wide open. Now we've had mixed weather and rain, so good old England does not stay hot for long! The cabin was cooler the second day, so you could look to stay in one at camp sites or similar for a few days to cool down?
Someone needs to start up a new app for shady/cooler places - parking or camping spots in Europe, for those who are out on the road or travelling in the summer months. It would be very popular on those hot summer days.
Take care of yourself and Gigi and see you soon,
    Michael

Its still dark here. Woke this morning after dreaming I was kissing my Dad’s face…oh my goodness. (Good gracious!) It is just a little stark….Mornings are rather sacred, aren’t they? Birds are awakening. There are creatures about…Air is crisp, clean. Open the tube (cause I’m a bit lazy) and the algorithm somehow knew just what I needed to see. First panel. And everything is good. Oh Kay. Even the war seems to be going the right direction. You sure have a sweet color. Hair. So, I just have to send you a note, the very least. Gratitude. From Mendocino, California. Thank goodness for July (you). 🌿🐇 I’m turning this machine off. Its a beach day, for sure.

It’s definitely a thing for me. I’d prefer a place where it doesn’t get above 70 in the summer. It’s supposed to be 100 here tomorrow. 🥵

Fit a Caframo Sirocco 2 fan to your van ,they use next to no power so you can leave them on all night. These fans are fitted to most caravans in Australia now ,and most have 3 or 4 installed also they are made in Canada so are good quality.

So Ame, I rented out a garage in Marseille for a month some years ago to escape the heat at night, and it worked out really well. And it was cheap and safe!🎉🎉

The heat every year is really becoming more and more of a problem.
As someone living in the bottom apartment of a multi-story house I'm in a pretty good spot, but I don't even wanna BEGIN imagining how the temperatures in a motorhome become. And it's not like it'll be easy peasy whenever for you to find a shade to park in that doesn't move with the sun.
Keep yourself and Gigi safe from the hellfire that is summer.

You got to have an AC installed in your van. It will be so worth it. Here in Australia we have hot 40 degrees summers, but air con is a must have in cars and in houses. Take care xx

Dressed only in a swimsuit & wrap, the off-grid princess of Europe braved past a poisonous Oleander; its vibrant purple blossoms masking its deadly toxins. Ame was also forced to breathe the rotten sea-weed at a local beach. But she endures with class, style and good cheer - the way only Ame does. Magical music plays wherever she goes, and the birds sing to her songful voice. I love this pioneer of cool, class and adventure.
Ame is a rock star with a heart of gold; kind and fun-loving. I know others love her & will support her channel. Please support laws that protect van lifers & travelers.

I mounted a Honda 2200i Inverter generator on the front bumper of my truck. It powers an EcoFlow Wave 2 A/C. It keeps my Mamba III roof clam shell tent or camper shell cold in the Baja California desert heat. The Wave 2 is a heat pump, so it also warms me up up north. I also have an auxiliary 6 gallon gas tank that will run the Honda for 72 hours… Oh, I also have 500 watts of CIGS solar panels that can run the Wave 2 on sunny days.

It is such a treat to see how effortlessly you drive a manual transmission.
Here in North America most vehicles have automatic transmissions and ,therefore, most people can't drive "stick".
Thanks for another cool (pun intended) video!
